Limited PS3 Pre-Orders

From the most recent edition of Gamestop's email newsletter for October 9th:

Limited PlayStation 3 Pre-order
GameStop and EB Games will begin accepting limited pre-orders for the PlayStation 3 console on Tuesday, October 10, on a first come, first served basis. Due to extremely limited supply, we expect to deplete this allocation very quickly, most likely in minutes. We will not accept additional pre-orders at this time. To avoid an unnecessary trip we strongly recommend you call your local store to determine availability. A $100 reservation deposit is required, which can be funded with cash, credit or trade. As we cannot control production and shipping issues by the manufacturer, a reservation deposit does not guarantee receipt of a system available to purchase at launch. Reservations/Purchases are limited to 1 per household.

Our limited online pre-order program will be announced at a later date, after software and accessory availability dates are confirmed. Online product pricing and availability will vary and will be fulfilled independent of store reservations.

I guess I'll be missing my 8am organic chemistry lecture tomorrow. I just called the local gamestop and they said they won't have all the information ready until they open up tomorrow, but it does appear like they're gonna be taking preorders.

I'm a general biology major going premed. It was either take it at twice a week at 8am with an easier professor or take it at 1pm 3 times a week with a boring professor who gives difficult tests. Last year (orgo one) I picked the second option and regretted it, so this year I went with 8am.

yeah. i just called one of my local gamestops, and they said they're only getting 14 units. i'm THINKING about getting one at launch, but after the overheating 360 debacle last year, something's telling me to wait until the second or third shipments before plunking down the $600 plus extended-warranty money

2.1 - well if you get a warranty when you buy it

then what is there to worry about. Like, I dont see why ppl are so worried about getting stuff on Day 1. All you do is get a warranty which is 50 bucks, and if ur system doesnt work in a year, then they give you a brand new one. And the EB Games I work at, we are not having pre-orders, so that must be just a U.S. thing. But yea, I dont see any worry about getting something on Day 1? anyone wanna answer that.

well, considering how much i'm anxious to get my hands on a PS3, i think i'd be pretty upset to have to ship it off and wait for repairs, even if it is covered under my warranty. but i guess you have a point.

Is that it is on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. And if you pay 100 bucks your not guaranteed one depending on when you pre-orderd. If you wree say the 6th person to pre-order this morning when EB Games opens, and then come november, that store only gets 5 systems, then that means the 5 ppl infront of you would get it 1st, and when the next shipment comes in, youd be the 1st to get one. It doesnt mean your paying 100 bucks for nothing, you just got to be lucky and hope you get there 1st to 5th, or else, you may not want to pay it, but even if you do, you still get one.

I was going to sell some games today, by coincidence...so I don't mind leaving my 100 dollar credit as a pre-order for a month. I will definitely be reselling it, though.

didn't we just have a news clip a few weeks ago that said Gamestop will not be doing Pre-Orders for the Wii and PS3?

so they wont run into the same problems with some people not getting theirs like the 360 launch.

Gamestop doens't pre-order until companies commit to a "final" number of units to be shipped to the Gamestop corporation. Meaning they only pre-ordered exactly as many as Sony said they'd ship.

As with 360, this isn't a guarantee, as last-minute cuts and shipping issues can cause problems. Just because a company promises X units doesn't mean they actually ship them.

And the whole deal was that Gamestop had word that no official number was going to come from Sony, so they weren't going to pre-order because they had no clue how many units they might get. (20,000? 576? 4?)

So this means Sony either came up with a real number, or they (more likely) just made one up to force Gamestop into doing pre-orders.

Got my preorder today (4th in line)

Within the 1.5 sq. mile area, there are 2 eb games, 2 gamestops, a walmart, target, circuit city, and Best Buy, not to mention the mall. The EB games I was outside of is getting 13 systems, so I'm assuming all the others are around the same. And you need only go 3 miles up or down the highway to find more large shopping areas (gotta love northern Virginia), so it's not too hard getting a reservation.

8 - #2 In Line... holla!

I got to my local EBGames and was #2. I paid off the whole thing and was surprised that I still have to stand in line when they come in...granted I have the #2 spot in that line.

I will be playing my 360 in antsy anticipation. Gears of War comes out BEFORE the PS3, right? So at least I have a couple of stepping stones to keep me occupied.

I got my preorder in I was lucky number six. They got a memo this morning that each store is only supose to take 6 preorders thats all so if you are seven you are prolly sh!t out of luck. The store manager told me that each store is supose to get eight but to make sure that there isnt the preorder backlash like last year with xbox that they will only garantee six and so the memo states only six preorders. Granted the guy said if sony doesnt ship what the said the were we are all F#%&$@!

But two go to store employees. The Gamespot release mentions that unforunate fact. So they should only be taking 6 pre-orders except for the stores that are getting 16(14 customer pre-orders).

Baton Rouge Louisiana, 2nd in line I got there at 8am and only two others where there waiting. They said that they spent the night thinking it would have been packed but only about 15 people showed up at Gamestop. I pre-ordered the 60GB version so I know I'll be getting one. I had traded in a ton of games and had $86 worth of credit so it saved me some money. I also reserved Motorstorm since I was there and it was only 5 dollors.

The gamespot in TN openes at 10am but opened at 9, but only 3 preorders were made. However out of the six preorders I was number 6 at 10am. One guy in front of me stayed in the parking lot instead of getting in line. Oh well, I feel very fortunate because I beat the odds.

You see up here in Canada, we are not taking pre-orders, and it really is a 1st come 1st serve basis. There are 2 EB Games, Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Future Shop, and 2 Sony Stores, all these stores are only getting either 4 or 5 (actually 6 or 7, but take away 2 for emploees, so 4 or 5). So basically, I have got to be 1 of the 1st 3 ppl in on Friday Novmember 17th, and ive got to choose my store(s) wisely. Im super glad for all the guys in the states that got one today(got a pre-order in the top 10) Cause come Nov. 17, anyone getting RFOM, Ill cya out there.

18 - Despite School...

I managed to get my PS3. I had school today, and Tuesday's are the only days in which I can’t miss classes here at UB. Anyway, my brother had off at his college and he was able to get in line (it’s my birthday so this was my gift. I guess me paying for the whole PS3 wasn’t enough :) )- 1st one at 8:15AM here in Buffalo, NY.

They did open early at 9:45 and the manager (go figure) didn't even know why 5 people were standing outside the store. When a guy in line told her about the pre-orders, she went in and found the information.

BTW, I won't be selling mine on eBay (only if I get one at midnight launch).

Also, I can confirm that the GameStop game software list is correct. They printed me off a copy of that very same list and it does indeed look impressive.

I was lucky enough to get my reservation. And it is true they were only taken what they were promised per store. i was 1 at my store followed by a whole lot more that were turned away. 6 was the total amount of reservation that were taken. after that it was Sorry no more. it's was the craziest feeling just being there and seeing the madness and knowing. "DAMN I AM ONE LUCKY M#$%#$^&#$%ER"
