How Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Makes Home Really, Really Cool

"We hear that the Home portal for Naughty Dog's PlayStation 3 adventure will follow in Resistance's footsteps, allowing Home avatars to explore the game's levels without the threat of being shot at, a nice feature. But it's the Uncharted mini-game that has us far more pumped.

According to our sources, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune comes to Home armed with a side-scrolling 2D arcade game, described to us as reminiscent of both Contra and Out Of This World. Sounds kind of like Capcom's 2D remake of Bionic Commando in its execution, full of enemies and exploding barrels to shoot."

I'm so glad Devs are coming up with Ideas to make home more then just a social environment for the recluse. This, Warhawk and RFOM are all great ways to make Home fucntion on a gaming level. Plus ... I have all of these games too.

I'm actually surprised they went all-out like this with the whole HOME integration thing... I really thought developers weren't gonna do this type of stuff.
I'm very impressed. I look forward to HOME more and more with every new detail that I hear.
Wasn't it slated for a Spring release? In that case, it should be out in the next month or two, no? I, for one, definitely believe that HOME will bring a lot of strangers closer together. And I will, because of it, have a way bigger Friend List...

No no no no! Oh my god! This is so brilliant from Sony. HOME will be so huge. I am now convinced. This could also be how Sony can get people to buy games. I know many of my buddies will buy a 360 game just to get achievements. What if you had to buy the game to get access to special games within home.

they are green with envy over the creativity of the developers at Sony's studios.

i'm sorry, i couldn't resist.

on topic, this, and the additions to Resistance and Warhawk are much more than i was expecting from Home, to be honest.

what i think i really like, is that Sony is not just copying Microsoft and the great things they've done with Live.

they are adapting what works for Live, nixing what doesn't, and then adding their own "Sony twist" to it.

it's going to be great to see how Microsoft responds to this and improve Live's functionality to compete. hopefully they'll finally make the service *FREE for it's users. no matter how good Live is, you should not have to *PAY to be able to play your games online. yes, i know $50 a year isn't much, but hey, some people *CAN'T afford even that. it's hard to believe, but it's true.

you're already paying your Internet service provider for access, and you've already paid $50-$60 for your game, *WHY should you be forced to pay more just to play with friends.

even without Home, the online features of the PS3 are getting really close to matching what a lot of people are paying for with Live. sure, a lot of the stuff isn't cross game, but anybody playing Resistance, Warhawk, and other online games like Call of Duty 4 are able to do a lot of the things that Live does, like game invites, chat, in game messaging, etc.

instead of a universal feature, it's on a per game basis. like i've said numerous times before, when i'm playing Uncharted, i don't want to be constantly bothered by my friends that are playing Warhawk or Resistance, trying to get me to play with *THEM. if i wanted to play those games online, i'd be PLAYING them.

i don't see why single player only games should be concerned with *SOME of those features. but that's just me, and i'm not a huge online gamer to begin with (though Warhawk officially converted me, i don't play every day, and when i do play, it's usually for just an hour or so).

i'm really excited to see what other developers will do with Home. i'm not expecting *ALL developers to do this, but imagine Konami creating a Silent Hill space, where your Home avatar would be free to roam the streets of Silent Hill, and almost go on their own adventure, learning a lot about the towns past and inhabitants.
