The concrete conclusion that I took from this article is not that PlayStation is an excellent brand or has great ports coming out for it, but that the PS3 is affecting hearts and minds.

uh oh.
I have been saying it for quite a while if its not a fps or a racer ps3 controller feels better. I own both and i have played both extensively. 360 controller for me is a complete fiasco when it comes to fighting games. Tried playing MK3 on it and it was just terrible. How the hell do you want me to perform cool moves and fatalities on a joystick and the damn dpad seems to have webbed feet or something?

The x360 controller is made for FPS but not for fighting or 3rd person games. However the PS3 controller still is good to play FPS. I have no problem using the analog sticks for aiming in Resistance. When i played virtual fighter on x360. Trying to do combos is a pain in the ass with the positioning of the buttons. Its hard to use the index and middle finger on button pads for x360.

I disagree on the sports an action. I think ps3 controller edges out here as well especially on the sports.I have madden 08 on 360 and ps3(bought 360 version got ps3 version from a friend) and i can tell you it really only boils down to preference. The only advantage would be in the R2 being easier for running. On the other hand performing truck moves on the 360 controller where you have to push the right bumper and right stick is quite uncomfortable. A lot more comfortable using R1 and right stick.

I am being very objective in saying this you have to admit the bumbers arent as comfortable as R1&R2 and triggers are more comfortable than R2&L2. All that rubbish about 360 controls being tighter is rubbish to me especially when i play both versions of games cus i don't notice any difference. I still get the same kills as quickly as i would using both controlers. In fps where you have to use sniper maybe but thats when you need to be extremely precise. Other rubbish is 360 controller is heavier i never knew controller weight had any effect on gameplay. I own a dualshock 3 and i gave it to my friend to play nba 2k8 with and he couldnt stop complaining about how heavy it was and i'm like wtf. Everyone has preference.

I give 360 controller advantage on games where you are mostly pushing triggers e.g. racers and shooters. Games where you need more than triggers ps3 controller usually comes untop for me

I have to say I am amazed and impressed with the people commenting here today. Usually a biased article like this would have a war started by now, but other than a couple of people like power of green it seems quite civil.

It's nice to see people just expressing there opinions and not shoving it down someone else's throat, like I prefer peer to peer networking because in a couple of years if I want to play a game I don't have to worry about dedicated servers, just if people still want to play.

The issue has never been about how easy the 360 can run PS3 ports, the Multi platform issue has to do with the PS3 having trouble with 360 ports.

This guy's PS3 prefference has nothing to do with the issue nor does it have to do with many other games.

Button mapping and DualShock prefference has nothing to do with the Multi platform problem, dedicated servers has nothing to do with Texture issues or frame rate problems.

COD4 was developed for each platform from the ground up for the most part, the others had PS3 in mind" we already know the 360 can handle PS3 ports easily the issue is the PS3 handling 360 ports etc.

DualShock doesn't solve theses issues, finding a few games doesn't get rid of the issue.

I had the same problem with the article that you mentioned. In almost every category he mentioned, it was a close call between the systems or one had a single feature that was better. Concluding the article by saying that the PS3 "won handily" is completely incongruous with the points he made. I thought the conclusion seemed a little biased, but it doesn't mean with completely certainty that he is a Sony fanboy, just that he needs to write a better article that supports his conclusion.

Only people with small wieners fall into this kind of crap. And if you're passed puberty and still involved in console flame wars, grow up. Whatever happened to live and let live? Play what you enjoy and STFU. We're all gamers here. Some more than others. Why do people have to argue about what they *think* is better? As a gamer, I really don't give a rat's ass about a console's power, so long as it pumps out some great games and new experiences. I still go back and play retro games every once in a while -- once again, because power doesn't mean jack. It's obsolete the day you take it out of the box. The 360 may have its fair share of problems, but it does have some great games. There's plenty of other consoles from past generations that have been plagued with issues. It happens. Maybe not on such a broad scale as the 360's, but it's not a first. Regardless, I'm a gamer, first and foremost. I go where the games are. That said, I can also say that PS3 is shaping up to have some epic stuff. Even though I'm a 360 fan, I can admit this because I don't have to compensate for anything. It's video games. Remember that.

I've not heard a single 3rd party dev say PS3 is favored for anything. In fact it's been just the opposite. It's more like they are forced once again to cater to Sony's arrogance and stupidity and forced to learn new programming techniques that are useless in the real world outside the Sony universe. I'm sure they don't favor having to spend more time and money to get the same result, but they have no choice because people bought the PS3 with a high price and virtually no games either on brand loyalty or whatever. So if they want to make money they are forced to cater to Sony stupidity.

No doubt - these articles are worthless. I have both consoles & I actually opt'd for both DMC4 & COD4 on my 360 (5GB download + more friends on XBL for COD4). Assassin's I got for my PS3 & I dont care for Burnout...

But it's just personal preference for all of us, I spend more time on my 360 mostly b/c of the online service & more online friends + Gears (my favorite MP game by far). Both machines are great systems IMHO, that is, unless my 360 ever RROD's (JK)!!! It is nice to see the PS3 catching up with the 360 in the Multiplat arena though...

It's a shame that articles like this are even written considering most all of what the author writes is nothing more than his personal opinion.

Absolutely. Love Warhawk dude, Resistance too, but I do like Gears better. It aint nothin' but one man's opinion, I like Gears better than COD4 MP & Halo MP & Warhawk MP & Resistance MP. I'm not saying it's better for all absolutely, it's just better for me.

Mostly, I do my single player games on my PS3. I just have way too many friends on XBL & they are all ravenous for MP/co-op type games (which is cool), & honestly, the whole friends list/chat thing is so much better on XBL than PSN, IMHO.

I think Sony will eventually make the friends list/chat thing more streamlined though, I sure hope so.

11 - i am always happy to read articles pitting games from each system

I want the best version of the game and will buy it for the system it works best on whether its ps3 or 360. I always lean a little to 360 for acheivements and an already established friends list, but going forward with games getting better and better on PS3 I might have to let that go. I would guess that the PS3 will be competing with the next xbox in a couple years. Just like the ps2 gave the 360 a run for its money.

They picked the most recent high profile multiplatform releases to do comparisons. There's no point comparing Turok cuz deciding which version is better is like a choice between a the clap and genital herpes. I could personally live without either.

You can compare Lost Planet all you want, but anyone who's trying to decide whether to get Lost Planet on the PS3 or 360 in 2008 is gonna end up getting COD4 anyway haha.

didn't catch that Jenzo?...he picked the 4 biggest recent multiplatform titles...the 4 with the best review scores overall...and the 4 that people actually purchased...

its been touched on for the past 6 months...if the game sucks...its most likely better on the 360...if it is anything worthwhile...they are identical, or possibly marginally better on the PS3...

happened with Oblivion...Vegas 1 (ugly and it stuttered on both systems, but neither system trashes the other with that game)...The Darkness...Dirt(although that game sucked imo)...and the games mentioned in this article...the AC thing is the most retarded one of all though...some sites say the 360 is way better...some say the PS3 version is way better (didn't gamespot say the PS3 had 'much more dynamic lighting')

the 360 gets better versions of games like Turok and Denied Ops...congratulations...

the only outlier so far is Lost Planet, which was said to be decent by many...It is suprising that the port sucks so much, but it didn't seem like any PS3 fans were interested anyway...Capcom is selling it for like $35 right?...cheap quick port...oh well...

in either case...it doesn't matter...there isn't really one multiplatform game that really looks to be pushing either system, except for CoD4 (and I guess paradise looks amazing as well)...but both systems have exclusive games that appear to really show off what the thing can do...so why argue about what multiplatform version is better?...its meaningless...

You base that comment because of PS3 HDD installs, dedicated servers and preffernce for Dualshock?.

Burnout is a PS3 port the others were develpoed along side eachother still catering to the lowest denominator. LOL No one's ever talking about dedicated servers or HDD installs when talking about PS3 development issues. lol This post is off.

When folks talk about PS3 issues lets use Lost Planet as an example, folks are talking about the way it runs and looks not the fact Lost Planet PS3 is going to have dedicated servers with no lag on PSN. lol

PS3 is getting a free ticket with this one. lol DMC4 and COD4 360 version has better textures than the PS3 version. Don't dissagree I'll post links.

oh noes- your version has an extra bush an 0.001 more frames per second

and get this guys- the textures are "slightly sharper"- how am i to progress through life without that divine "sharpness"

fact is, i have COD4 on PS3 and i love playing it and i think it looks incredible

and everyone agreed that the PS3 version is "slightly better"- not that i care- i want a good game, not a game that is "slightly better" than the version on another console- that isn't what i look for in games

that's why i dont care about this "360 versions are better" crap- because i really wouldn't know the difference if i wasn't looking for it

games are too fast-paced to be looking for "slightly sharper textures"

come on we're not playing "spot the difference" here- we're playing next-gen games

the ONLY game that has a noticeable difference is the orange box- didn't stop me playing it and loving though- a few FPS stutters don't stop me from enjoying a game

5 - If call of duty 4 is better on the ps3 why does it have so many problems?

Most people complain that alot games drop....it takes more then 5-10 minutes too get a game....I agree that peer too peer sucks but it takes less then 3 minutes too get into a game and when it plays good you have team communication, lag free games and the occasional drop but thats only when your playing a host that is on the losing team.

Hum, I click and join game, Is that 5 mins in xbot talk? Dude Cod 4 has no problems, Iv been playing it the day it came out. The only problem i have ever seen, was when Ward had server problems about a week or so after launch, since then, PERFECT............

6 - the only problem with the PS3

is that developers just weren't as experienced with it and sometimes even had to rush out the PS3 version to meet deadlines.

More and more as developers are getting better suited and have better tools, the PS3 development is just getting better.

Why is that so hard for XBOX 360 fans to understand?

Devs really work the PS3 on Multi platform games when useing the PS3 as the lead making the best game they can and easily porting it to the 360.

Devs have to slow their role when the 360 is the lead to make sure PS3 can handle it.

The devs making ACE multi platform games are talented and they can do wonders with Multi plat games imagine if they were working on 360 exclusives.

Interesting conclusion POG. Then by your logic, Halo 3 should have been the best looking game on the 360 since it was exclusive and Bungie had the full backing of MS. Not saying Halo was a bad or good game overall, but If we are talking about pushing the system or looking the best then this games directly refutes your conclusion, I have even heard the most rabid 360 fans say that the graphics left a lot to be desired.

1st and second party games for the PS3 for the most part tend to consistently look rather great compared to 3rd party games on the system, as they should. Good examples of this are Uncharted, R&C, Heavenly Sword, games that though their overall execution can be argued depending on your taste, the fact that they were visually stunning cannot be refuted.

I fail to see your point about exclusivity making a difference, if anything exclusives look worst than 3rd party games on the 360. I mean think about it, Gears is held up as being the pinnacle of 360 graphical achievements yet it is a game developed by a 3rd party that also makes games for the PS3, that would be alarming to me seeing as how any technology used on Gears will surely find its way onto the PS3 in a subsequent EPIC game. Shouldn't Bungie have taken the role of setting the bar for the 360?

Your entitled to your opinion, it's just that the evidence thus far doesn't support what you stated.

seemed very biased... every clincher was a matter of opinion, and everytime was swayed to the ps3 version for some reason... maybe gamepro PS bias, i noticed that a while ago, i want fair and balanced, not bias.

also all of those PS3 winners were lead or co-lead on the PS3 version...

and idk bout a 22 minute install and 5 gb of space, winning out with slight better control, over slightly longer load times. (i own the game on 360, the load times are next to nothing as it is)

Too bad they're wrong in all conclusions. It should be the 360 everywhere, well maybe Burnout Paradise with a slight twist towards the PS3.

BUT the 360 has rumble right out of the box on all games. That alone should give all games the edge on the 360!

But COD4? Have they done the texture comparison? The 360 is sharper, plus the 360 controller is the perfect fit for FPS, the PS3 controller isn't.

Lets put it simple: rumble makes the game feel more real. Get shot in COD4 and feel it, any other game.

For a pro gaming media site, Gamepro must let just anyone write for them. Anyway, COD4 wasn't a port on any system. It was built from the ground up for PC, 360, and ps3 using separate teams with the same game assets.
I also think dedicated servers are a double-edged sword. The reason being, it puts a shelf life on the online capabilities of a game. What happens to your favorite game if a publisher goes under, or if they decide to divert their server space to a newer more popular game. Atleast with peer to peer, as long as Live exists you can play anygame, anytime online.

yea ps3 is an awesome system the blog was about right though I prefer having 1-2 sec loading times which happen a lot than 3-5 on xbox so dmc4 is better on ps3 in all views.

They've been trying very hard to try to make the PS3 look superior to the Xbox 360 for a while now. Ignoring the Games of the Year "Bioshck" and "Mass Effect" that comprison made in 2007 and now chosing the only PS3 to Xbox 360 ports to try to prove their point (where the difference is almost unexistant) except fort he only parallel development (Assassin's Creed) in which the Xbox 360 version is more than noticeably superior.

Conviniently enough, they've chosen to ignore big games like "The Orange box", "Lost Planet" and many others where the Xbox 360 version proved to be superior. Let alone not mentioning the recently (supossedly) canceled "Dark Sector" due to the inferior performance the PS3 version had.

Last but not least, considering an advantage a 5GB install in exchange of slightly better loading times than a "Plug and Play" game in the Xbox 360 is simply absurd. Games do NOT install on Xbox 360 because they don't need to. They do on PS3 because developers find it as an easier way to get over the slow 2x blu-ray speed (must be cost saving compared to the Bethesda's data duplication process) Try to consider that an advantage a year from now when this becomes a standard for PS3 and gamers start getting tired of uninstalling games just to perform a horrid 20-25min installation to be able to play a new game (It's not even optional) in similar conditions to their Xbox 360 counterparts... only eating 5GB of their precious, small hard drives. God help them if they want their oldies back!

Come on Gamepro, try to save some of your reputation... if it's not too late already. Just check their article title, sounds like a fanboy post in a fanboy forums.

you are right. i never understood how installing 5 gig for 20 plus mins just to only get 1 or 2 seconds faster load time is better than putting a game in and playing. it's not.i wait long enught just waiting for the game to be released. now i have to wait longer to play it to.get the f@ck out of here. and the controller excuse is weak. 80% of multi-plat look and play better on the 360. even if the ps3 is the lead console look at VF5 better on the 360. gamepro has again shown that it's the seconded biggest sony fanboy site on the net.(not to be out done by this site) the sixis controller feel to light and the motion controlls feel as though they should have been left out. there no custom soundtrack. so you are force to listen to the garbage music on some games. i could go on about why the 360 version of games are better.but talking to some fanboy on this site is useless.
