Four underappreciated PS3 titles coming in 2008

There really seems to be a lot to be excited about in the lineup of PS3 games this year. The author highlights a few that seem to have been flying just under the radar of hype.

From the article: "While there are lots of sequels of big name titles coming out like Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid for the PS3, there are also new services and niche titles like Flower and Playstation Home."

I don't think killzone 2 is underappreciated. Enough people have heard about it all guerilla has to do is deliver a great game with average reviews of 9 upwards yes it isnt an easy task but its about time they made a good game with the full backing of sony this is their opportunity to make an impression in the gaming world. If the game is well reviewed it will sell very well. Socom on the other hand which was promised last yr then shifted to june (which i bet will be pushed back for metal gear solid) and will probably arrive sometime in august i don't know. I can however say if they deliver on their promise of 95% destructible environments i can guarantee i will buy this game without a thought. I want more shooters to incorporate destructible environments

I disagree Killzone 2 is underappreciated next to Resistance 2. Killzone 2 far into the later stages in development compared to Resistance 2. And yet if you ask any PS3 owner which game they would rather have right now they will usually say Resistance 2.

This was clearly a very badly written article as there are many problems in the facts presented. SRuN4 had a good point about the destructible environments, many of the titles presented are NOT underappreciated and the amount of polygons in Killzone 1 are equal to the number of polygons in a FULL character in Killzone 2... not just their face.

yea i believe white knight story will be a majour sleepr hit. PS3 hasnt really had any solid rpg's yet and level 5 seems ready to deliver with that title. I have no idea when it releases though. Far too many ps3 games have been pushed back.

WTH is Killzone 2 doing there? They say this is an article for overshadowed and underappreciated PS3 titels for 2008 then put the most hyped PS3 game of all (Killzone 2) along with poor little fl0wer? Same goes for Home which is also a heavily hyped PS3 product. They should have instead tried the real underappreciated games like BlazBlue.

11 - Here are four TRUELY underappreciated Playstation 3 titles

1) Socom Confrontation - I'll agree with them. Not because people have forgotten about the franchise but because Slant Six has so much to clean up after Socom 3/Combined Assault that allot of people have doubted them. I think online only is a great concept and can only lead to cleaner game play. As for moving systems, you better believe it. I know of at least 30-40 people right now (All old Socom clan members) that are waiting to buy a Playstation 3 the day Socom comes out.

2) inFamous - The next creative title from the team behind Sly Cooper, puts you in the shoes of an average civilian who gets powers over time. The catch? You have the choice on whether to use them in a positive or negative way. Sounds amazing, and judging by the creativity of the Sly series, what's not to be excited for.

3) MLB 08 The Show - Has a great chance of being the best overall sports sim of 2008. Previews didn't do the game much justice, but the second I got my hands on the demo last week (Available now on the PStore) I was sold. The only downfall? It wont come close to competing in sales with Madden come fall.

4) Metal Gear Online - Okay, so set aside the fact that "Metal Gear" is in the title. If Konami decides to give this a standalone launch rather than including it with MGS4, it wont see the proper sales it should. The game play looks great, the layout is even more amazing, it's just sad that it wont see as much fame as it's counterpart will.

Other games that almost made the cut: Free Realms, White Knight Chronicles, Zipper's Untitled Project, and I'll also agree that Flower (the follow up to the number one selling PStore title) is highly unde .

I agree with u on all of them. But, I think its a good idea to release online versions separately and charge a fraction of the cost for it. At the same time original games should be sold for less. i.e cod5 should be at least 15 hours of gameplay SP and it should sell for 40 dollars, the online version should be sold seperately for 20 bucks.

i'm as big a fan of KZ2 as anybody. but, they have to start giving new info/trailers NOW! this game can't stay in perpetual limbo. (no matter what the reason) i think the game is losing some buzz because of the devs silence.
even when kojima goes "underground" to finish metal gear games, you hear some info. if what was shown at E3 '07 was truly "in game" then the devs better start taking some more of the wraps off this or it will end up looking dated.

Well, the thing about killzone is that the production is supposedly getting mucked up, and they're having problems programing for the ps3. I've been waiting for it patiently since its announcement, but apparently the 20 million Sony is spending on it got doubled because there have been many problems in production, and it might not make it out on time. I'm starting to think all that money and resources would be better spent at Insomniac or Naughty Dog, considering that they really know how to work with the ps3.

your quotes that they are having trouble programing on ps3 just isn't true. i've seen countless interviews where GG devs talk about how they love working with the system and how they couldn't do this on any other system.
it is getting frustrating waiting on new info. but, the game is listed for sept.. if it misses that, then i'm more inclined to agree that they(and the project) are in big trouble.

I think Playstation Home is more misunderstood than underappreciated. Most people think they know _exactly_ what Home is going to be and when I talk to most people, it's clear they're either wrong or simply know very little "real" info about it.

It's not a slam-dunk smash hit, but it's also not an automatic failure either. A lot of folks misrepresent Home as "what's missing from the the PS3 that exists on the 360" and that's about as wrong as wrong could be...

Killzone has a moderately large fanbase. Also many PS3 owners would love playing Killzone 2 due to the 'lack' of games that happened last year. 2008 is looking good.

Are they nuts? Those are underappreciated games? I thought SOCOM, Home and Killzone 2 are three of the big games coming out. Maybe they don't get as much hype as GTA4 and MGS4 but they still get lots of press and a lot of gamers want them.

I'm just hoping Little Big Planet gets the recognition it will deserve.

Underappreciated? HOME? Are you kidding me? Everybody's looking forward to it. It's more than just buying new clothes and crap like that. It's a literal SHOWING OFF of awards you've gotten from games...and full-on interaction with other human beings...in a way. Leaving your house is great, but...how long does it take to get to Tokyo? Ya know? Some of your friends you can't reach.

It's just a human thing. People like to feel connected. They like to feel love, hate, competition...things like that. This will bring us closer to that than any other console has.

Why the hell is KZ2 always compared to fu*king gaylo. That game sucked so much I wouldn't feed it to my dogs. I know that KZ will get a bad rating from the most gamesites just because of this. If KZ2 gets over 9.0 from gamespot or EGM I'll cut my own balls.

I think they say it's unappreciated because we still don't know very much about those games yet at least from game play.
Total BS though Killzone 2 is beyond anything coming out and Home is a network game not a title.
Other than that I don't know about the other titles.
