Confirmed: Uncharted 2?

Obviously rumors will hit anything remotely successful, that means Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is no exception to that happening. As one of the most prolific games on the PlayStation 3, Drake left fans wanting an entirely new adventure as quick as possible.

Apparently, according to some news print, Uncharted 2 has been confirmed. Watch the video below and decide for yourself. Without an official announcement, it's hard to be anything but skeptical.

Uncharted was a great game. This will probably fall into 09 games which i dnt mind. If uncharted could implement some type of multiplayer it will drastically improve the sales. I will value the sp over the multiplayer but online multiplayer goes a long way in seperating a game from purhcase or rental

Naughty Dog is like Insomniac. They are the best developers when it comes to creating annual titles on the Playstation. They create the very best games in the very least amount of time. Other developers could really learn from these two studios. So it's easy to expect that Uncharted 2 can be a Christmas 2009 title. Of course it depends on Sony's lineup this Holiday Season as well. If Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Infamous [originally announced as 2008], and several other games are slated for release Oct-Dec then some games could easily slip into early 09 for strategic purposes. Also, the extra time could certainly ensure a little more quality; not they'd be lacking anyway.

Since Uncharted has finally built their engine, the sequel with its tweaks should be released much sooner.

2.1 - It should be a quicker developement time than the first
But I am not sure how much quick it will actually be. Mainly due to the developers goals of enhancing the engine. If they were going to use the exact same engine with minimal tweaks then yes developement time would be relatively quick. However, Naughty dog has stated in a few of their interviews the amount of enhancement we can expect to see between generations of their engine. To attain their goals I would expect this to take a large amount of time. They earliest we can expect to see this is the end of '09.

They said at most a third of the total power of the cell in an interview at GT. Never said anything about the RSX but we can probably be sure that there next game will be improved pretty much.
I really hope the can pull together the cinematic feeling from Uncharted. It felt almost as playing a movie.

Yuppers, when the game comes out (when, not if; let's be honest, here), I'll be in the queue to buy it. After all, I really enjoyed Uncharted -- indeed, it's one of the few games I've entirely completed on PS3.

Odds are, they will be falling into the 2009 Holiday Season. This is because, like Insomniac, they are probably planning to work on another game for this year that they've been working on while Uncharted has been brewing. This game will come out in '08.

While I agree with ruibing on the fact that, yes, development will go faster because they've built the engine, but it will again be slowed because they are going to want to tweak and improve the system. In addition, the story must be written, storyboards produced, characters developed, plot constructed, and new ideas they plan must also be accounted for. Not to mention, there's motion capture to do, level design, playtesting, voice acting...

That's just the stuff we know about. Other things that will keep this game in development are tweaks to the combat system, possibility of new weapons (melee and firearms), and many more tweaks! Also, as the engine is being improved, with the engine come the bugs and little imperfections that have to be worked out to make it all seamless.

But the number one thing I want to see? I want to see Uncharted do something new and crazy---maybe incorporate a DMM (Digital Molecular Matter)-like engine (used in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed) for fully destructable environments, and a Euphoria-like engine (Used in Force Unleashed, and GTA4) to get more realistic actions and reactions out of characters in both their minds (AI Patterns) and in how they act and react.

But my top dream for Uncharted? Imagine not just using those explosive barrels for group enemy kills. Why not be able to shoot a weak spot in a stone archway and have the whole thing collapse on top of enemies running through to get you? Or use a rocket launcher to not blow down stone, but blast a hole through it?

That's wishful thinking for Uncharted 2. But it will be great anyways. And, while I can't expect it for at least a year, I know I can wait because they'll do great things with the sequel. Just hold out until Holiday 2009.

Good post. Have a bubble.

Enthusiastic posts like yours is what drives the gaming industry to provide richer, bigger and better games (in both gameplay and 'technology'). And luckily in this generation we have two consoles in the 360 and PS3 with the power to do this.

Every time a developer announces something cool, a gamer can come up with something even cooler. We may be demanding consumers, but in no other media or medium is there such potential for creativity and close link between producer and consumer.

Uncharted was a pleasant surprise. I've always been a fan of Naughty Dog, but nothing about the game screamed Buy Me for some reason.. Even the demo failed to change my mind.

I picked it up as a rental, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Although the story was a little cliched (well, a lot actually), it was very well told and had some nice humorous moments. It definitely comes under one of those titles with 'personality'.

So Uncharted 2 would be pretty high on my Most Wanted list... but could we have a new Jak and Daxter game first please??? :)

Uncharted's ending left it wide open for a sequel. I'll be buying # 2 the day it comes out.

True, it was wide open... but I kinda like the idea of seeing a whole new adventure. In the same way as Indiana Jones movies always moved to a new location with a new challenge.

It would be cool to have some cross-over with events in Uncharted 1 though - even if it's just in little bits of dialogue or throw away comments only people who played the original would get.

I'm guessing the story will pick up when some unlucky sea travelers or explorers finds the cursed treasure and bring it back to their homeland and then the curse will spread and Drake and the others would have to save the day.

12 - Why dotn they make Jak 4 first
Jak and daxter series was awesome it had fun that matches that of anime, Uncharted is good but Jak 4 should be the first concern for naughty dog its their best IP to date.
