Starcraft 2 on PS3? Dream on!

Starcraft 2, a PC sequel nearly ten years in the making, hasn't been announced for any consoles. But that didn't stop the wishful thinking of PSU, who hypothesize that the flexible Playstation Network, Bluetooth keyboard/mouse support, and required hard drive make the PS3 the best choice for porting Starcraft 2 to the console side.

We can't help but imagine how great a console port of Starcraft 2 could be, given the reasonable success of RTS gems like Universe at War and Command and Conquer on Xbox 360. However, Blizzard hasn't lost any money by sticking to its PC guns, with World of Warcraft and the original Starcraft enduring as some of the most widely-played games in the world.

It'll be cool to have on ps3. We can use the keyboard and the mouse.
Let's wait what blizzard is going to do.

the keyboard and the mouse are big advantages. I was playing some days ago C&C on Xbox 360 and I definitely missed them. I was asking myself why the developers are not supporting at least the chatpad.

Yes I did as well, It was not that bad, But the paddle or the chatpad are not as efficient as the keyboard and mouse.
On my opinion there is a market for the RTS on the console especially if this console allow to play with a keyboard.

2 - Well it could enter both consoles...
P2P connections would work since the number of players in this type of game are limited to a max of 12 which wouldnt necesarily need dedicated servers (would be preffered as the amount of info sent in rts is normaly a lot higher than fps reason why rts on the 360 has been limited to 4 players max)

The current advantage of the ps3 to receive a port is the keyboard and mouse support which regardless of what rts developers say it is still the best way to control an rts at least until endwar. BFME2 and CC are the ones i have played and although the controls are interesting they still pale in functionality compared to their pc counterparts.

4 - Disagree fully.
Lets look at it like this...

PS3 = Everyone is able to play this game out of the box(chances are if you have a PS3, you have a PC and could use that keyboard/mouse).

360 = You're going to have to pay for the 3rd party K/B converter, if you don't have Live you're going to have to pay for that as well, and then finally, if you just happened to have bought a core system, you're going to have to go out and buy that too. That's going to alienate a BIG chunk of their userbase considering what is it? 10 Million out of 17 Million that have LIVE in general? So that automatically leaves 7 Million people having to pay extra money, just to play this game.

PS: I understand the concept of replying with "Well if you exclude a console completely, you'll alienate a bigger chunk in general." However, exclusives do this all the time and it isn't an issue.

---

I don't think you can even effectively argue that the 360 is just as good of a choice as the PS3 in THIS example.

Keep in mind, I do own both consoles and play them equally. This is just how I view it in terms of gamers wanting to save money.

5 - I would make more sense on the PlayStation 3:
I think is would be best on the PlayStation 3 because it supports mouse of key boards. Like with Yellow Dog Linux you can use a key board and with the XMB (Cross Media Bar). The XBOX 360 isn't so friendly to the mouse / key board idea. I would also love if they had the mods with this game making it compete with Halo Wars.

The PlayStation 3 has such a different network than the XBOX 360 it's crazy what can happen over online.

not many people have a PC to run it, a PS3 is cheaper than a PC these days and also currently in this time frame, the PS3 can almost do what the PC can do in graphics (notice I said almost, not saying "PS3 is the Most Powerful system ever, not the PC" cause thats very fanboyish if I said that, and an Idiot.), also PS3 users are allowed to use the mouse and keyboard for games that support it.

well as the PSU stated, the PSN is a very flexible service, look what it did for Unreal Tournament 3, it did something that was never done before in consoles and it was executed amazingly, the use of User Generated Modifications. If Starcraft 2 comes to PS3, expect Cross platform Play Via Blizzard's Battlenet system. also expect South Korea to explode when this happens, it'll be a Megaton for them.

I just hope all new FPS games (Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Haze, etc...) come with mouse/keyboard support, I detest using the controller (360's or PS3's) for FPS. If not.. I will just wait to play my FPSs on the PC. Sucks to lose such titles though.

And for the RTS games, I am a big fan of RTS. Since the first age of empires... and also... only play them with mouse/keyboard.

So, more mouse and keyboard support for the consoles, please.
Or Ill just play games like FF, Ninja Gaiden, Uncharted, Assassin's... you know, on the PS3. That is why I got it anyways, just wish I could widen my game library.

9 - Im waiting for an O/S to...
For PS3 that will be able to play PC games. I tired of my shyt computer with all its needs. I love pc games but I dont love the requirements they have. Id kiss the person who finds out how to run games like warcraft/starcraft on a ps3 through something like linux or even windows Id say goodbye computer hello ps3.

Also I prefer controller over keyboard and mouse for shooting/fighting games. I dont think keyboard is superior yea you can move your mouse faster on aiming but you cant move faster. They have their trade offs. I prefer analog its much more precise.

Definitely, everyone has their own preferences. So... developers should just make the games support both on the console (if the console provides the possibility) so that consumers can have their pick.

And I feel the same way you do about the requirements, and would love to run computer games on my PS3. Sadly I don't know if it is possible or even legal.

Typical fanboy article. Pretty much useless. I read the whole article and the best reason he gave is stick with PC, guaranteed profit and will prevent crappy port. No Sh*t sherlock, if that's the best reason you can give, then you shouldn't write at all. Ever heard of Business risk taking? No risk, No gain. Gaming company nowadays been asking themselves, why limit themselves to one consoles or PC after they saw consoles great sales. A perfect example is Call Of Duty 4, the Game is a hit in various platform. If blizzard is looking for PS3 programmer, they are venturing into PS3. Why not their best hit Starcraft 2. This will definitely increase their profit too if they launch in PC,XBOX 360 and PS3.

So The writer,Andrew Podolsky, really failed on this one.
