It's pretty much a dry month/week and we will see how well burnout and dmc4 does to the sales soon. It's only flamebate for retards who think this is worldwide data. DMC4 should push PS3 pass 80,000 units per week in Japan.

My bet is 360 won't drop the price till sony does...Currently if anything getting out sold Globally just by a little (maybe a 100-150 K total monthly).

Plus they won't drop the price till a major piece of software comes out, so my guess is...GTA IV.

Sony may do it at that time, or when MGS 4 comes out.

MS also needs some more (exclusive) games this year. Price drop and back catalog won't help when FF 13 and versus 13 comes. Don't forget LBP, Killzone 2 and Resistance 2. Once PS3 gets the $299 price drop then that my friend is game over.

5 - There aren't many PS3 Games on the Chart

Although there aren't many Playstation 3 games on the chart, I still find myself impressed that Call of Duty 4 on PS3 sold a million copies. It took Resistance Fall of Man more than a year to sell a million. I didn't think it would be possible for Metal Gear Solid 4 to sell a million copies but Konami may just hit their mark.

WEll obviously it's going to take REsistance a year to sell a million, it launched along with the system, when up till march may have had just 1 million consoles sold total. If Resistance came out in Sept, I bet you by Christmas it'd have sold nearly a million if not more.

Intresting set of figures again! :)

Since its rarely mentioned these days, I thought I'd calculate the attach rate for each format based on this weeks US sales, i.e the percentage of platform holders who bought a game this week...

The results are not what you might have been led to believe by some on the site, and have been consistant for the last 8 weeks now..

360 - 7.56%
PS3 - 9.40%
DS - 2.83%
Wii - 8.34%
PS2 - 1.13%
PSP - 1.18%

I'll restrict myself from making comment on the figures, as any comment seems to annoy one group or another, I'll just post the figures as dervied from the published VGChartz data and you can make of them as you will! :)

Looks like you are right on the money there.

8 weeks of this trend is indeed significant.

I did some calculations using the WEEKLY WORLD WIDE sales
(alas i cannot find total overall software sales.. yet)

Here's the numbers ( http://www.vgchartz.com/wee... )

This WEEK'S worldwide attach rates:

360: 1027542 software / 16644811 console units = 6.17%
PS3: 631172 software / 9430866 console units = 6.69%

The ps3 still has the attach rate edge here.
Interestingly the average figure is brought down to a level which is lower overall and much closer for both consoles, than the comparable figurres for NA alone.

I would deduce that the ps3 is selling LOTS more software in NA (proportionally), but the 360 sells more software in other countries (proportionally). That would explain the *close result* worldwide.

It is kind of ironic that in NA 360 outsells ps3 in hardware, but (these last 8 week) lags in attach rate there, while outside NA this peculiar association is reversed.

Still, the attach rate has lately been favouring the ps3 both worldwide and in NA alone.

Question is will it continue?

I did a similar calculation on world wide figures too and noted the anomaly! Yet if you calculate the figures for europe only, the attach rate is higher by an even bigger margin? This week its almost double and easy to spot with the PS3 having shifted more units of software this week despite having a significantly smaller installed user base...

It suprisingly looks like Japan is the key here.:) Hardly any 360 owners comparitively, but the ones that there are, buy lots of software while jap PS3 owners are still waiting for White Knight or GT5 or something!

Its an interesting trend to note anyway, and people can't say PS3 owners only buy blu rays, as the numbers simply don't show it...

Of course, if the PS3 wants to make any inroads in the states instead of being a jap/euro machine, it needs to sell more hardware - all the time the 360 has three times the install base the bottom line software sales will always seem small fry in comparision even if there is an edge in attach rates..

Let's stop saying Worldwide OK. Let's just call a spade a spade. Xbox is king in US, and for many that's all that matters. Japanese won't buy Xbox and who cares? I don't. Whether it's because they like oddball games or whether it's nationalism. I don't care. I own both consoles and they're both good for different reasons.

I sold my Xbox HDDVD and bought a PS3 to go Blue before Warner did. PS3's HD Audio rocks. But, Xbox has better online experience and games. Took forever to buy a game but I finally bought Heavenly Sword. Xbox has better framerates. I don't care what fanboys say, PS3 has a frame rate problems. Hopefully with developers learning the cell, they will go away.

One of the best video game productions ever suffers because of frame rate, Heavenly Sword. I would love for this game to be on Xbox so it could be realized for its all-around artistry. What it has done with a button masher, from story, to character development, just awesome. It really raised production values to an uparalleled level. The frame rates however, significantly hamper it. They should not have RTM'd so fast and I hope it gets patched one day to fix the frame rated.

It is looking good though for PS3, I bought Burnout Paradise for PS3 over Xbox (despite no Achievements and weak online experience) because contrary to reviews, the audio and video on PS3 are significantly superior to Xbox for the first time. I don't know what reviewers are looking at. Technically the PS3 doesn't have the fill rate or internal bandwidth of the Xbox and never will, but you can't tell from this game.

I also don't know how anyone in their right mind using HDMI can't see that Full RGB makes a dramatic difference on PS3. If you're using HDMI you should use Full RGB. If you're not using HDMI, then you don't have the problem, component is analog and has the full range, duh. The same goes for Xbox. Start comparing standard reference levels when using HDMI. The Xbox will appear washed out just like PS3. (OK, not quite as bad as PS3 but washed out nontheless). I mean, you're expanding the range from 10-255 to 0-255. Black being 0. Duh..

Sorry for the rant, but the BS is crazy. Just give me Wipeout HD @ 60fps, Heavenly Sword 2, XBLA, and Gears 2. There will be no perfect console so buy both or whichever has the game you like, but don't hate.
