IGN PlayStation 2008 preview - The hottest upcoming games and predictions

2008 is set to be a great year for the PlayStation 3 and PSP. The PlayStation 2 even has a few more big titles up its sleeve. The second full year of the PlayStation 3's lifespan should be a huge one, as developers are really starting to nail down what the system is capable of and a huge number of exclusive and major cross-platform titles are set to hit stores this year. With games like Metal Gear Solid 4, Devil May Cry 4, Grand Theft Auto IV, Resistance 2 and much, much more promising release this year, PlayStation gamers have a lot to look forward to.

wouldn't be surprised if Slant Six gets picked up a few months after they drop SOCOM Confrontation. they've worked with sony closely for awhile now, PSP engine for the Syphon Filter games and now two SOCOM games. pretty sure sony will extend an offer to them at some point.

Can't be argued that Sony has the best-looking line-up for this year. Personally, I could do without Home, but I think it'll be one of those things that I'll use occasionally cause it's free anyways.

- Sony Will Go on a Buying Spree. Well with having such a good start to the year, yeah why not go out and splurge? =P

- The PlayStation Store Will See a Major Overhaul. Hmm hope so the Playstation store looks good but a revamp would be very nice.

- PlayStation Packaging or Price Changes. Yeah for sure with a really good line up it would make sense that Sony would drop the price or give some bundle packs

- Home Doesn't Take Off. That would be a kick in the pants but I wasn't that eager for it.

- Sony's Lineup Dominates This Year's Holiday Season. Well no sh!t Sherlock =P

Im excited about Home too since its a different take for online for a console but as long as you can streamline having to walk to place to place im good.

I'm also excited about the aspect of talking to people at random to play a game. If Sony presents it right this could be huge.

LA Noire and Heavy Rain

those two titles are scheduled for Q3/Q4 2008 releases, and are two titles i'm really looking forward to.

i expect Quantum Dream to show off Heavy Rain at GDC this year, since the tech they are using for that game is looking *FANTASTIC.

nice to see Infamous on that list. no one seemed to be talking about it, or having an interest in it, while personally, it's probably my *MOST anticipated new IP of the year outside of the aforementioned Heavy Rain and LA Noire. nothing is more badass than being a Superhero...except being a *SUPERVILLAIN, and Infamous has *BOTH. couple that with the fact that it's made by the team that brought us the excellent Sly Cooper series? please. day one purchase; guaranteed.

now that i have a 360, however, i'm going to have to find a way to budget for both consoles, though, admittedly, most of my purchases will be on the PS3, even the multi-platform titles. for the most part, my 360 will be home *ONLY to 360 exclusives, unless a port is absolutely, positively *BETTER on the 360 (which, as we've seen with Burnout Paradise, developers are finally getting their heads out of their @sses and learning to code for the PS3...about damn time).

looking at this list of games, and i know for a fact the majority of my gaming time will be on my PS3 this year, with a healthy smattering of 360 gaming thrown in as well.

damn, what a *GREAT year for gaming this is going to be!

not really big on Home but it's free so it doesn't hurt to check it out once in a while... the game lineup for 2008 looks awesome (even though a few aren't listed) Sony should make an offer for the studios that have backed them up exclusively... it's only fair if they did that. i don't mind an overhaul of the PSStore interface, but the current one works fine for me. anyway, looking forward to 2008 and GDC + E3 + TGS
