Square Enix Announces "Lord of Vermilion" for PS3

In a recent interview, square-enix announces "Lord of Vermilion" for the PS3. Note: according to the site, scans of the new issue of Famitsu or Dengeki(which ever one contains the interview)will come out in a couple of days.

Another great game to look forward to from square enix? I hope it comes out In 08. But it clearly seem like sony has square full support. This is great because square is One of the most talented developers out there, and between them and level 5 there is not other developers that make better rpgs then these two.

makes me think back to the good old days gaming.. right when i read that it instintly made me think of a game with a similar name...SWORD OF VERMILION for the sega genesis.... Does any body remember that or am i to old? ....

I love square enix final fantsy games, FF is like reading a good fantasy book. All there games are masterpiece with seven being the best followed by 10. But both 8 and 9 are good to. but 7 is ma favorite.

Seriosuly in the last couple months PS3 has made a HUGE 180... they are doing EVERYTHING right now. 9 years left guys.... PS2 only been on 7....the PS3's about to be put in every Blockbuster.... I'm seeing PS3 sales end up VERY VERY GOOD by the end of its life cycle... what do ya think?

I'm still betting my money on an FF7 remake for the PS3 sometime in the future. If i was Square and I was working on a remake I would keep my mouth shut for 90-95% of the development time. If they let the cat out of the bag too early everyone would be clamoring for preview pics and movies which could kill the experience. I just hope when they do decide to do it they bring back the original team of FF7 or at least it's Director and not keep the X-2 Director who's working on XIII and you can clearly see X-2 influence in it.

not being announced until 2008 since it's such jaw-dropping information. From what I've heard it's not a remake, but it is a legitimate RPG. Supposed to occur somewhere between the events between FF7 and Advent Children, which is two years. I want a remake just as much as anyone else, but that's sort of treading on holy ground for a lot of people.

I would like either a remake or a sequel, but that time period you suggested wouldn't resolve the genesis secret ending after dirge of cerberus. I wouldn't want several new ff7 titles, just one, solid ps3 title.

Yea that is treading on holy ground, I mean I'd love a re-make but it's an extremely risky thing to do. They have to make sure it's a REMAKE and not a re-imagining. Everything has to be just as is and if they wanted to add some extra stuff that it has to not interfere with the original style. Which means nothing with a "-sin" tag on it (ie: Bahamut-Sin from AC. That's why it's critical to have the original team or original director to head the development. Otherwise it'd be like handing the paintbrush over to some guy and telling him to re-paint the Mona Lisa. It could either become one of the greatest re-makes in all history or become the biggest embarrassment of all time. Sometimes I think it's best that they never re-touch FF7. I feel fine with my block-hand characters and a sequel would be a much safer path but again they have to remain within the FF7 Universe and not taint it with it's new art direction they have at the moment the heavy FFX-SIN art.

As someone who went, using the JP titles, FF4 to FF6 to FF8-10 then 7 then 12. I have to say, 7 is not better then 6, 12, 10(even though if you think hard about it, 10 stole a good 70% of the main plot points from 6), and 9(ordered). I think most of the love for FF7 comes from the fact that for the time it was completely revolutionary, and it tended to be peoples first foray into the series.

IMO it had one of the weaker plots(weakest and least effective villain for sure in a FF, don't kill me sephiroth fans), and the materia system was one of my least favorite ways to get stronger.

Do not get me wrong, it was a quality title, and deserves praise, I just think that it gets more then it deserves seeing some of the other titles in the series.

PS: the chrono team needs to get off of FFXI(11) and make another god damn chrono game.

that there is a 3rd ps3 exclusive... if it uses the PS eye it will be awesome. i cant wait. Konami and Square are resally only the 2 3rd party devs Sony needs. MGS and FF will show them to the promised land of success. 2008 will be a year to remeber in deed.
