First video of Katamari creator's new PS3 game, Nobi Nobi Boy

You may remember that a few months ago Keita Takahashi had surprised everyone by announcing Nobi Nobi Boy, even if it was thought he'd quit games after Katamari Damacy. Takahashi was at the GameCity 2007 in Nottingham today with a playable prototype of the game, with just an empty background and no "back story".

...this is what gaming needs. Wouldn't it be nice to have an intense round of GoW, and think to yourself, "Man, I need something to chill out." This could be that something. There's no overt threat of dying. There's no bomb getting ready to blow. It's just mindless, simple fun, but still odd enough to keep it interesting and less kiddy.

I'll add to this. Not that the PS3 is a leader in innovation and conceptualization, but don't let the Wii fool you into thinking that it's a pioneer and an innovator of this video game generation.

Top sellers on the Wii: Wii Play, Carnival Games, Mario Party 8, Zack and Wiki (Which is actually quite awesome, so count this one out of the example).

This is innovation to you? Ok.

The video was worth a few giggles, but I'd like to see a more finalized version of the game. This can be a pretty good PSN release.

Personally the most innovative things I've seen so far this generation are achievements (can't live without them now), and the new Sony playing card game with the Eyetoy (Eye of Judgement?). Wiimote is different, but you're still doing the same stuff as in any other control pad type game.

if by looks you mean like the way it physically looks then yes, it does look like katamari. but gameplay wise, it looks absolutely nothing like it... you're just bitter that theres a ps3 exclusive. doesn't matter how good it looks, or what it looks like it plays like, (because obviously, it doesn't look good in any of those catagories) you're just hating on the ps3

Is it just me or the physics system looks uber awesome? Thye way the thing reacts when stretched. The physics engine kinda reminds me of Little Big Planet. Seriously smooth and cool.

How the boys behave like rubber band is actually very good: they can overlap, get tangled, etc etc.

And I think it's a great sign when it's not even functioning as a game (being a prototype i'm sure it's basically a physics demo) and you still get to make people laugh at what's going on in the screen.

How they did coop and tried to create a letter was just hilarious, and I'm sure the final game has that kind of universal and primitive fun, just like katamari damacy.

when somebody said achievements were innovative, i almost died. first of all, MS didnt even invent achievements, they used to be called madden challenge, even popped up from the bottom of the screen in the same fashion and everything. except they were actually useful, you bought madden cards. achievements are nothing but an imaginary e-penis, not like an e-penis wasnt imaginary enough right. remember kids the larger your e-penis is the smaller your real one is, and the less action it gets.

there is nothing innovative about achievements.

...but the way each and every 360 game has a collection of them certainly makes it the highlight of what the system offers consumers. Even the shortest of games receive hours of additional replays from average players (imagine how much more people would have loved Heavenly Sword if there was more to unlock than videos and combos?) and from a developers perspective, it's time well spent.

Talk bad all you want about the 360 and the RROD, MS points, and laggy p2p networking: MSFT got it right when they required devs to add achievements to all of their games, and until the other consoles get the same thing installed, they'll both be playing catchup. I'm glad Sony is taking some initiative to give something like them to their customers, and I really hope Nintendo gets on that before the hardcore bubble bursts.

This is as zany and interesting as you might expect from this lot.
A great example of why the japs are so inovetive.... and why you need them on board with your machine if you want trully interesting titles.

I don't know the objective, or even if it will be fun to play, but at least its not another meat head FPS title, and thus worthy of respect in my book!! I hope this concept becomes a reality and I can try for myself!
