Official UK Playstation site updated: "Grand Theft Auto IV is now finally on the horizon" coming Oct 2007

This may be the Playstation site with incorrect release dates - it has been known before. But with the rumours of a big announcement for PS3 in October...

Now I don't know if it just hasn't been updated but I checked the Take 2 site and it lists GTA IV for PS3 and 360 release date as october 2007.

Hey, if this is in fact true, it would make plenty of sense if you think about it. For one thing, we never really had an actual idea of how far along each console was with GTAIV. Many came to the conclusion that the 360 was further along because it was the one always shown. But look at it this way. If it is on track for the PS3, it could just maybe be a timed-exclusive. That being said, it would come out in October as planned for the PS3 version, then 360 version would come in the spring along with it's episodic content in a sort of GOTY edition. Something like Oblivion is doing. That would work well for both consoles I guess. I'd hate to own a 360 knowing that I'm not gonna get to play GTA due to MS being pricks. I don't really care for the extra content when knowing that it is just an extension to the GTAIV campaign. GTA campaigns are long enough as is and I couldn't be happier by just completing the original storyline. Welp, I guess we'll have to just wait and see. There have been many rumors for what the big bang announcement could be so I wouldn't get my hopes up though. I actually think it just has to do with the new PS3 SKU.

Well from what I understand its their policy not to buy exclusive game rights but flat out buying rockstar... Thats a possibility. Will cost them a pretty penny but if they did.... It will be the end of the console wars... With LA Noire and the other 3 "Undisclosed" PS3 exclusives post GTA. I would say its a possibility that they might just take them under their wing and get it.

this is not how it works. Rockstar Toronto made a deal with both Sony and Microsoft to release both version at the same time. If they do, they can get sued in court due to breach of contract. Anyway, the rage engine has only been seen running on the 360, as the trailer. maybe a the same trailer running on the ps3 engine

I do not think this news is true, but neither is your statement. There has not been any news that money was paid for the game to be released simultaneously on both systems. That is not how it generally works. Console makers pay for exclusivity not simultaneous releases. And that's what Microsoft paid for, exclusive content. Even a timed exclusive for this game would create a short-but-sweet ps3 frenzy. Every body(including me) was really disappointed to hear that this game was delayed and now BAM!

for the record, i *DO think the GTA4 07 listing is probably an error on the site's part, *BUT, going back to the devil's advocate, the fact of the matter is that software generates console sales.

the Playstation 3 needs software.

if, by some wacky rift in the space/time continuum GTA4 releases on the Playstation 3 for this year, *MILLIONS of GTA fans would flock to the Playstation 3 to get their hands on it. even at $500/$600.

besides, GTA4 wouldn't be the only quality title releasing/released on the PS3 this year. there are quite a few good games already out, and good exclusive games coming (ie, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Unreal Tournament 3, etc), and some good multi-platform games coming, so for those millions of gamers out there that are GTA fans, and *DON'T already own a next gen system (whether PS3 or 360), would probably be swayed to pick up the PS3.

also, lets play the what if game some more, and imagine what it would do for the PS3 if it got GTA4 this year, *ALONG WITH a new $400/40gig SKU, *AND we know it's getting rumble back also with the Dual Shock 3 shipping in Japan this year and it's compatible with US/UK/Wherever PS3s. that would be quite the coup for Sony, as some of the biggest complaints about the Playstation 3 levied at it so far have been:

1. Price - "Waaaah, the console is too much, despite it's impressive set of features!"

2.) No Rumble - "Waaaah, the controller doesn't rumble, even though they *COULDN'T implement rumble because of the lawsuit with patent trolls Immersion!"

and 3.) Exclusives - "Waaaah, all of the strong franchises are going multi-platform this generation, despite the fact that developing games this generation is expensive, and if we want *MORE entries in these classic franchises, they need to go multi-platform to break even!"

over the past 10 months that the Playstation 3 has been on the market, Sony has been addressing these issues as they could. the PSN is a quality (and free!) online gaming service, getting better with every update; the price of the console has already dropped once, and is set to drop again, with $400 being a ridiculously fair price considering what comes inside of the box (and HDMI cables can be bought for $8 or less online; that's how i got my cable, so i don't see the big deal about the system not coming with cables), and rumble is back for those people that actually still get excited for the feature (i could care less about rumble, but at least it's there now, so haters can shut the hell up), and older games will be patched to support it next year.

other issues with the system are also being addressed on monthly, sometimes weekly intervals.

the price is the biggest barrier though, so i agree that that needs to be addressed asap, but also consider the TGS listing for MGS4: it stated it was still slated for release in winter 2007. can you imagine GTA4 on PS3 only this fall, MGS this winter a $400 price tag, *AND rumble back, all for the later quarter of this year? "Big Bang" announcement indeed.

with all that said, i *DON'T think MGS4 or GTA4 are releasing this year, i think this listing is an error, and i think the "Big Bang" announcement is for the $400/40gig Playstation 3 model, i mean, the evidence has been piling up to that for a while now. it's like the solution to those "whodunnit" puzzles we used to solve as a kid; painfully obvious.

either announcement, however (GTA4 or MGS4 this year, or a $400 PS3), would help Sony out to be honest. the games would increase sales, despite price, and the price drop would certainly increase sales, despite the games. it's pretty much a win/win, for Sony. in a perfect world, all three would be true, but i'm going for the most reasonable and logical one, and that's the price drop.

First off, why release the news now, not during TGS07(The biggest game show of the year and steal some of the thunder from the Halo Camp.
