To mess together but i think this is the best game on the Ps3 right now from what i have seen. I find the exploration to my liking, Like ICO on the ps2 sort of. I think that i agree with the MART on this game , that it is the best game it seems on the Ps3.(I say this as i have an XBOX 360 and there is no game like this for it, as tomb raider kinda sucks) I would buy a Ps3 for this game. Well, you're wrong there... Unreal Tournament is guaranteed to get AAA, like pretty much every other title in the series. It's the ultimate online FPS game. Haze also stands a very good chance as well as Ratchet & Clank.

It does look good indeed.
HS was not bad. The first level had a but of tearing and shudders, but from there it gets better and better. Heck - for the first time in years since SSX and GT3 my wife started playing games again.

I picked up Oblivion yesterday... so far... it seems OK, but I prefer R:FOM any day. Have seven games for the PS3 now. R:FOM tops my list. Motorstorm second (wow, the intro is amazing). HS third.

The kids keep on playing R&C and Lego Star Wars. R&C if released this year will be a must have for the kids, and Drake for me.

I wouldnt go as far as to say its a killer app as of yet, but it definitely has all of the ingredients to be one. Lets wait to play it, although i have a good feeling about this game for 4 reasons:

1. Naughty Dog- This developer is amazing and the #1 reason this game is most likely going to rock

2. A fresh take on an awesome premise. Yes, it borrows from many games and many ideas; however, it seems to create a unique feel by its art, gameplay, and story. Pulp action is the PERFECT fit for a video game. The nature of pulp action always makes for a great premise for a game.

3. The gameplay is accenuated by the fact that he is a normal dude. He throws haymakers instead of finesse martial arts moves. He cant carry 30 weapons in an invisible pouch... The cover system looks great! I think the sixaxis is being used properly (for balancing and grenade tossing (but we shall see if it actually works out or not)).

4. The graphics look great, color is awesome, art is sweet, and there seems to be a variety of environments. Textures are improving daily, and the bumping is coming into its own. This game should shut up some naysayers about the power of the PS3.

ratchet and clank5 and drake's fortune are both shaping up to be great AAA titles.

drake's fortune has the great cover and shoot gameplay of gow, with some great fighting mechanics, great graphics, great levels and it has some assasins creed or prince of persia flavor inside.

now they only need to make sure the game does'nt get old too fast, cause remember what happened to heavenly sword, although it was a good game.

Dude, I am just being real. I've been saying this constantly since a long time already. Props were props need to be given. The PS3 still is overexpensive on 600 Euro's for what it does.

Wrong again. COD2 was rated 90% average reviews, AAA. Gears of War was rated over 90%, thus AAA.

On the other hand: it really doesn't matter to compare first years. You have to compare current situation.

PS3 at this moment has one AAA, non exclusive Bioshock.
360 has multiple AAA's (console exclusive).

And that's what is seen when people buy a console at the moment.

it's the right mix of Prince of persia, and Gears of war. the graphcs of this pwns HS and lair. and stands among the 5 most graphically impressive games of this year for PS3. This game looks sooo crazy. The best part is, it's not using the unreal engine. So in the near future, expect the unreal engine to be blown away. PS3 is not relying so much on that engine like 360 is. The Naughty Dog team is so good. Insane even!

There's driving segments, it looks to be alot more story driven then Tomb Raider, it's Naughty Dog and I love their past platforming games, the cover system was not existent in Tomb Raider, wider array of weaponry (most of which has not been seen), free roaming explorable areas (confirmed to be one way of getting trophies, by exploring areas and finding secret dungeons and caves of varying difficulties to get better trophies), Tomb Raider didn't have grenades, This isn't so much as a dave/dungeon exploration game, everything is rooted in deep reality, you're in the jungle and you'll be exploring castles and forts left behind from the Caribbean era.

Agree? Disagree? Those are what I think make it different.

So Mart, if i want to play UT3 (which will most likely be a AAA-game, even with your "standards") on a console THIS year, where can i ? That`s right, on PS3 exclusively. Just because it`s a timed exclusive dosn`t mean a thing, except that for this year UT3 is only on PS3 (not counting PC here, since it`s not a console). How is that not an exclusive ? You`re not making sense.

I thought it would have nice smooth AA, but I was wrong.
The gameplay itself looks really smooth though. I love how all the important scene items that you need to use are part of the world and not highlighted like in latest Tomb Raiders. I hate how Tomb Raiders are made too easy. Uncharted is how Tomb Raiders should have evolved.
Animation looks really cool as well.

Story says it's one full level? Hopefully not. Way too short.

the benefit of the Playstation 3's release a year after the 360, is that the first generation titles are looking as good as the second generation of 360 titles, and the *SECOND generation of Playstation 3 titles are looking pretty darned amazing (ie, FFXIII, MGS4, White Knight Story, Killzone 2, and Little Big Planet).

sure, Playstation 3 owners had to wait for their console and games, but the benefit, is that the majority of the PS3's titles *DON'T look like what i call "transition titles." that is to say, titles that only look marginally better than their previous gen titles.

this isn't meant to sound like a dig at the 360, as games like Gears of War, Bioshock,and Mass Effect speak for the console's abilities better than i can, i just find it interesting that the Playstation 3's first year is yielding such impressive results, and largely due to the fact that the devs had that extra year to really polish their titles. delays suck, sure, but when the results look *THIS GOOD, well, i can't really complain, to be honest.

Uncharted has always been on my radar, and it and Assassin's Creed are my two guaranteed November purchases. i'll see what i can do about all the other awesome exclusive and multi-platform titles hitting this fall, but those two are top on my November list (Folklore and Ratchet and top on my October list, with Eye of Judgment falling a close third).

*EDIT - i also have to add that i'm hella relieved that they fixed the headshots in this latest build. it doesn't look like it takes a whole clip to the dome to take the pirates down anymore!

the animations, textures, and puzzles are looking top notch also. it's a fresh, interesting mash-up of ideas, but it looks like it manages all of them rather well (RE4 style shooting, Gears of War like cover system, Tomb Raider inspired exploration/locales, and Prince of Persia like acrobatics).

So, in keeping it real, the game looks good, even very good, but let's not start to over hype it as you so clearly whined about when halo was released. This game is neither truly innovative nor a graphical marvel. Don't get me wrong it does look like fun and looks very good. It's reminds me more of prince of persia rather than tomb raider though especially with this guys athletic ability.

I noticed you guys are saying it reminds you of gears, but you're not saying it copied it textures, graphical style and cover system from gears. But, had this game come out first and then gear you would surely say gears copied it. (Fanboys creed I guess)

But really though, I would rate HS above this game, I think HS also looks much better graphically.

you should have noted that i mentioned that games like Gears of War, Bioshock, and Mass Effect are shining examples of what the 360 can do, but there are developers out there, many developers, to be honest, that *ARE NOT harnessing that power.

outside of the three titles i mentioned above, very few 360 titles can compare.

the same can be said of PS3 games, but the difference is, the 360 has been out on the market for nearly 24 months, whereas the PS3 has only been on the market for 10, but is yielding favorable results.

i don't flame, i simply state my opinion, based off of the *FACTS that i've observed lately.

i bring up Gears of War when it comes to Uncharted, because the *DEVELOPERS THEMSELVES, have said that the cover system in Uncharted, is *HEAVILY inspired by Gears of War. they mention this in every interview. you see, some developers *AREN'T obnoxious fanboys, and can appreciate when a good game does something good and beneficial to the genre, and they take that positive quality, and attempt to infuse it in their title.

do you think Halo would be nearly as good, if the Half Life series didn't exist? the innovations Valve pioneered with that game, inspired and spawned many an imitator, but very few have been able to pull off the homage like the Halo series has.

back to Uncharted, the devil is in the details, and this game absolutely *OOZES with details. Nariko from Heavenly Sword (one of my favorite PS3 games at the moment outside of Warhawk), doesn't have nearly 5,000 animations. while watching this nine minute playthrough, look at the very subtle things Nathan does while moving across the level. he has a weight to his movements while running, rolling, ducking. his facial animations change when he's being shot at and is ducking behind cover. his jump animations while platforming have slight variations, so it's not just the same canned movement over and over again.

when gripping a platform, his hands actually move closer or farther apart, depending on how wide the ledge he's gripping is.

Naughty Dog clearly knows what they're doing, and the gameplay improvements are quite impressive, as the last videos i saw, had *HUGE issues with the camera, targeting, and actually *KILLING the enemies (in particular headshots, which took about 5 or 6 shots *TO THE FACE to take down the pirates; now it takes one well placed round).

i think you simply misread my previous comment, as there was no flaming or 360 bashing involved or implied, simply an observation that despite a 2 year headstart, very few titles are looking as good as this *FIRST GENERATION crop of PS3 titles, outside of Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, and Gears of War.

imagine if the 360 had launched last year along with the PS3. the launch lineup of the 360 would have *TROUNCED the launch lineup of the PS3:

and then, at the end of it's first year:

Eternal Sonata
Mass Effect
Halo 3

instead, we're approaching *THIRD GENERATION 360 titles this December, and we aren't seeing much in the way of more games looking like Gears, Bioshock, Mass Effect and Halo 3. by this point, the 360 shouldn't be releasing games that look like Madden 08, but that's what we're getting. not saying the PS3 doesn't have it's fair share of games that look like @ss, but we're only in it's first year, not it's second, going on *THIRD.

PS2 and X Box games didn't reach a plateau by it's *SECOND YEAR. they got *BETTER visually, as well as gameplay wise. considering how easy it is to develop for the 360 apparently, there is *NO EXCUSE for 360 games to *NOT be on par visually with the Mass Effects, Halo's and Bioshocks. especially considering that, basically, 1 quarter of it's lifecycle is done (i'm going by the 6 year console lifecycle, not the 10 years that Sony is trying to pimp right now).

all i'm saying is that for a console that is so easy to develop for, and so powerful, there's no excuse why more games shouldn't be as impressive as Gears, Halo, Mass Effect, and Bioshock, especially considering that most titles out there are using the Unreal Engine 3.

the benefit that most PS3 games are enjoying, is that the engines of the games i mentioned above, outside of Unreal Tournament 3, *AREN'T using the Unreal Engine 3, and are being developed *IN HOUSE by the developers.

Naughty Dog and Insomniac built their Uncharted, Resistance, and Ratchet engines from scratch. Ninja Theory did the same with Heavenly Sword. ditto for Warhawk and Lair (say what you will about Lair, but the visuals are pretty damn impressive, and if it wasn't for the ridiculous omission of analog controls, the game would have scored much higher).

licensing engines is nice and all, and certainly saves time and money, but you are hardly taking advantage of the hardware when you do so, and as a result, you get Stranglehold (made using Unreal Engine 3; as a side note, i *LOVE Stranglehold, i just think it's ugly as sh*t, even on my HDTV), instead of Gears of War (*ALSO made using Unreal Engine 3). sure, it boils down to developer talent and all, but a homegrown engine (Epic *MADE the Unreal Engine, so i expect their games to look bad@ss) is generally better at pushing hardware to impressive heights (ie, Heavenly Sword's facial/motion-capture animation, and Uncharted's impressive animation engine).

The platforming segments of this game look like the most enjoyable part. I'm sure it's only an early build, but the shooting didn't look like anything amazing. It also looks like this game is going for a T for teen rating. I didn't see any blood, or gore, which in my opinion is needed when making a shooter. When people get shot, they bleed. It's as simple as that. I hate to see someone take a shotgun blast without anything happening to their body. Apart from that, it looks like a game that will be very fun. I love platforming, and if they fine tune the A.I and add some blood perhaps, this could be a great game.

obviously, they aren't talking about the graphics, because the two game's art direction are *VASTLY different from one another.

and they obviously aren't talking about *PLOT, because Nathan isn't running around shooting aliens and sawing them in half with a chainsaw.

personally, i think Gears of War is very similar to a PS2 title named Killswitch, which was a pretty fun game, and had the same exact cover-system mechanic, minus the pretty graphics.

to me, Uncharted looks to be a successful mashup of Resident Evil 4 (aiming system), Gears of War (cover system), Tomb Raider (exotic locale exploring), and the current Prince of Persia titles (platforming and puzzle solving).

looking at Naughty Dog's past track record of making quality games (Crash Bandicoot 1-3, Crash Team Racing on PS1, and Jak and Daxter 1-3, and Jak Racing on PS2), i'm expecting Uncharted to be rather enjoyable. it doesn't need to be game of the year, it doesn't need to be AAA for me to enjoy myself. i love Indigo Prophecy just as much as i love Metal Gear Solid 3, and Indigo isn't *NEARLY the "AAA" effort that MGS3 is, but is no less awesome.

some of you guys need to learn to reign in your expectations a bit (not referring to you, beardtm specifically). not *EVERY GAME needs to be "AAA" to be good. if that was the case, most of our gaming collections would consist of 3 or 4 games, because titles of the AAA calibur are few and far between really (though this year of gaming is looking rather solid, to be honest).

i don't expect to be blown away every time i pop in a game disc, i simply expect to have some fun with a good videogame. it doesn't need to be godly to be enjoyable or *FUN.
