Gran Turismo 5 Prologue gets a pricetag and 'GT TV'

Sony Computer Entertainment BeNeLux today announced a estimated price for the Blu-ray Disc-version of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, which will be released in december. The BD-version will cost you 45 euro's, according to Sony.

Sony emphasized that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is actually a full game, like Warhawk. With 40 cars, 5 tracks, 1080p graphics, 60 frames per second and a whole new online world for up to 16 people, this game is worth 45 euro's. Sony will also introduce a new feature, called GT TV. Here, you can download tv-shows about cars. These programs will be localised, so England for example will get Top Gear and The Netherlands will get for example Veronica's 'De grote Beurt'.

LSDARBY6071d ago

too much tbh, it isnt a full game with only 5 tracks. I think a minimum of 20 for them to charge full price.

Evil0Angel6071d ago (Edited 6071d ago )

xboxlive 40$ a year free demo+get them earlier and amazing amazing sevices

PSN free :......... .... ......... ...... ..... .... ... pay for demoes(call them full games and make them pay for it ) + nothing specil+ late demoes if any

i just wounder how much would microsoft make $$ if they called the HALO3 beta full MMOFPS games and sold them for 3/4 of the full version game

fenderputty6071d ago (Edited 6071d ago )

MS made people buy crackdown to get into the Halo beta? Piss off.

@Jenzo: Firstly, while you may have bought the game for itself, a good amount of people bought the game specifically for Halo 3 Beta. Ms knew this. Also, my comment was directed and Evil Angel, who thinks MS didn't charge for the entrance.

InMyOpinion6071d ago

I bought Crackdown but did'nt join the Halo 3 beta since I'm not much for online gaming. What I got was a superb game that I still play. It had all options a full game should have and I still play it from time to time.

Crackdown is Crackdown. It's not Crackdown Prologue with one city part, 2 agents and 4 different weapons. Lol.

Creds to Sony though, they know that a lot of PS3 owners would buy a sack of sh#t if it had the Playstation logo on it.

gaffyh6071d ago

45 Euros seems a lot, but for a full game it is 60 Euros, so I expect this to be about £25-30 in UK, probably $45 is US. Also it is a full game and has 16 player online play, GT TV sounds great good for us in UK, we get on of the greatest Car shows ever, Top Gear.

InMyOpinion6071d ago

If it's a full game, then why is it called Prologue? Are they gonna release GT 5: Epilogue after GT5 is out? The first pages of a novel can contain a prologue, but never in my entire life have I encountered a novel that only consisted of a prologue.

americanGTA6070d ago

We already did get the GT demo, this is like a super demo. We WE DONT PAY FOR DEMOS. WE ALSO DONT PAY FOR THE BETA's IE warhawk. You had to buy crackdown if you wanted to be in the Halo beta.

Your a fanboy and have a bone in your brain

gaffyh6070d ago

@Jenzo - you seem so against GT5: Prologue there is not much point arguing with you.

I will say this though, even as "half a game" it still looks better than any other racing game available on all platforms. And it's not like they are asking you to pay full price, 45 Euro's 3/4 of what you would normally pay, and this is only the retail version.

How much do you think downloadable version will cost?

Even so I will wait for a review to see whether it is worth buying, but I will definitely get the full game whenever that is released

hongthay6070d ago

Prologue is not something new for the GT series. They had a GT3 Prologue and a GT4 Prologue. They are full games, just not the final product. GT5 will have over 300 cars and many more tracks. GT5 Prologue is the full game, just limited.

Oh, and just to remember, as far as I know, only the BD version of GT5 Prologue will have damage. The PSN download will not.

InMyOpinion6070d ago

I can argue, no prob =) People b##tch about the length of Gears of War. They say it's not enough. Lots of talk about which games should be considered full games etc. They say EA's games should not be released because some of them have flaws. Then Polyphonic comes along and releases what is not even 1/3 of an upcoming title, and you say it's a full game? It does not matter how good the game is (I know it will be great), it's the principle of what they are doing that is sh#tty. How would you like it if other developers started releasing prologue glimpses of their games that you had to pay for? I don't like that thought.

To the morons bashing Crackdown. Look at it this way - You got a full game with the Halo 3 beta invitation or you got a Halo 3 beta invitation with the full game.

WilliamRLBaker6070d ago (Edited 6070d ago )

@America
I didn't have to pay for mine, I joined via the beta signups at bungie.net....hmmm weird

As well last I checked Crackdown SOLD immensely got good reviews and people loved the game....

@resistance
Yes this is a demo, Lets look at the definition for words.

http://www.google.com/searc...
^ googles web define of the word demo.

Demonstration software - usually a special version of a commercial program that can be freely downloaded on a trial basis; often has limited features or expires after a period of time.

a playable section of a game.

http://www.google.com/searc...
Googles Web define of Prologue

an introduction to a play
An introductory piece that presents the background for an opera.
A short race or time trial that is held on the beginning day of a stage race, such as in the Tour de France.

Both definitions are similiar in a very many ways, Both basically mean a short thing Before the full thing.

Regardless of what you want to say, This game is a demo, Thats it a demo! Its a small portion of the full game that will be released later, Heres to hoping that sony comes up with the idea that if you buy this game, you either get a major discount on the full game or you get the full game for free Because without they will be asking games to pay 120 dollars for a game or more!

The defition of words prove my point, and the sheer fact of logic does as well, This is not the full game, Its a sampling of the full game to be released later, You cannot do, or see or have every thing in this game that you can in the full game, the VERY Idea and defition of a demo.

Bs3/Comment 52 said it best
If this was a full game, then id be called gt5 not gt 5 prologue.

I take it you xbots never played GT4 Prologue

GT5 prologue is almost a full game, and is handy as you can transfer your cars, money etc over to GT5 when it arrives.

Right now tell me this

What 'demo'

has

16player online
HOME intergration
GT-TV - download Top gear ^_^ (thats right i live in the UK)
40 Cars
5 Tracks
Full single player with championships which you can win stuff on and offline multiplayer modes.
Plus More.

Go on tell me thats a demo?

Prologue games are great as it allows us to play GT games which i along with its massive fanbase want, rather than having to wait for months for the final game.

replys to comments

27 - or AKA theMART wanabee name the demo's which we have to pay for

32 - Agreed, it has never been a demo, its been much more than that

36 - Yes it has that but it also has tons of other features

Plus the fact that you will be able to get ten's of hours or more of gameplay out of it

resistance1006071d ago

Considering full price games for UK is 40-50quid or $80-$100 and they aren't charging full price expect it to cost $40dollars, however PSN version could be cheaper

barom6071d ago

yeah man u gotta think in regards to purchasing power. A rough estimate would compare 1 euro to 1 dollar. So for every one euro you use over there you can get the same by using one dollar here. Like I said a rough estimate (didnt PS3 over there cost 599 euros?.

achira6071d ago

cant wait for that game, i have already played it, and its clearly the best driving simulator ever.

free to play no matter how good the game is if it is a free to play i dont play.

i want to pay full price for a full balanced experience unlocks shouldn't be earned by money but by the hard work you put in the game.

my free to play nightmares are borderlands, diablo, titanfall,w arhawk 2,halo and star wars battlefront.

SteamPowered3714d ago

If you have ever played Path of Exile, that is the best way of microtransactions ever. PoE is a great game. Its what Diablo 3 should have been and it is completely free. All the items for purchase are cosmetic and the store isnt intrusive at all. In fact, I had to actually look in the menu to find where the microtransactions are housed.
But for the most part, yes. F2P is garbage.

iceman063714d ago

I would add Warframe to that list as well. Very much like you describe. Everything that you need is offered to you in game. Things that you pay for are either cosmetic or for convenience (i.e., you are impatient). Might not be the game for you, but the F2P structure is pretty sound.

caseh3714d ago

At which point did Titanfall become free to play hmmmm...

ThatArtGuy3714d ago

He's not saying that they are, he's saying it would be horrible if they were.

caseh3714d ago

He should have said 'would be' rather than 'are' I guess.

lonelyplayer3714d ago

Hey I agree 100% with you. I hate those unbalanced pay-to-win games.

maniacmayhem3714d ago

I agree.

The whole F2P model is designed to keep the user playing and paying well past an ordinary retail price. Most devs also design features that prey on a person's gambling, need to collect or complete an objective as soon as possible type of vice.

Trust I worked at Zynga and you should read the design tricks and tactics used to squeeze every penny out of their user base.

Yes, every company has their tactics but the F2P design in most video games is so blatant and disgusting. I stay away from those games...well I try but that damn Marvel Alliance... :(

gamer20133714d ago

A great example of a game that features the blood sucking F2P model would be Warthunder.

ExCest3714d ago

The Valve f2p model is really good. You don't have to pay a dime or grind for hours to get items to boost your "skills". You just happen to want more hats so you pay money for them.

Prime1573714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

Edit: I'm just not sure it's so simple as lumping free to play as bad....

That's pay to win which is a derivative of free to play, and which is also very common amongst AAA $60 retail games. The $60 lures you into a false sense of free.

There are games attempting many facets of the free to play model and some are pretty good, like planet side, some private servers, team fortress, DOTA and warframe WHERE you literally never (have to) spend anything - I didn't on planet side 2 with 20+ hours, and similar with warframe.

There are also some like killer instinct and warframe (KEYWORD: CROSSOVER) where it's basically a glorified demo. KI has only one/two characters, and warframe trenches you into a character you might not like in a little (but least you can build a new one several hours later).

Then there are the worst of the worst where you have to pay to win. Sometimes it's by buying upgrades to your gear like in runes of magic, or buying overly expensive increased experience in leveling grinding games like Rohan: Blood Feud.

Where I'm coming from: I had a free to play phase where I played (in no particular order but memory):

ragnarok (both subscribed before free to play, and free to play), path of exile, dragons nest, cloud nine, holic, requiem: bloodymare, runes of magic, tribes, warframe and planetside 2 (pre-ps4), blacklight, dcuo, dragon's nest, maple story, runes of magic, Farmville, clash of clans, team fortress 2 (actual, I bought it that long ago), dota, league of legends, lotr online, minecraft, wizard 101, dungeon fighter, many aria and net gear games, perfect world...

And many more that I can't remember because I don't want to.... And by played, I would say I spent more than 5+ hours (but mainly 20+ on aforementioned titles) on each of those game listed above, sometimes hundreds.

Worst business practices

Paying to play online (PS+, XBL)
Season passes
disc locked content
Paid DLC (DLC should be free unless it is significant enough to be an expansion)

Jubez1873714d ago

Paying to Play Online: It's a service. A TV is a product, cable is a service. A playstation is a product, PS+ is a service. How many services do you get for free? I'm sure you pay a cellphone bill as well.

Season Passes: I 100% agree on here. Never pay for anything that is not guaranteed to be coming.

Paid DLC: No one says you have to buy it. If it's cosmetics or trivial things such as Themes and Avatars there's no problem with it. You don't HAVE to buy it. It takes resources to MAKE dlc. Why would a company (video game companies are profit maximizers, btw) go and make a whole DLC questline or storyline and then give it to you for free? That brings ZERO marginal revenue to the company. I know it sounds great, and companies that do it are great. But the suits up top, yea they don't care. That's just business. Just because you bought an entre doesn't mean the dessert is going to be free. And AGAIN, you don't have to buy it or support it.

Imalwaysright3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

Games are NOT services. We pay full price for them and that means that we should be able to play 100% of their content with no additional cost.

crusf3714d ago

"Paid DLC" Then people complain no DLC is coming for there particular system or game.

Prime1573714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

I agree with you mostly, but I disagree with ps+...

I bought into that in 2011 and don't regret it. It's like Sega channel, but feasible.

Maybe I just play too many games, so ps+ makes sense.. Like the payday 2, remember me, bioshock infinite, outlast, and more in the last month or two... I would have had to spend an easy few hundred on those games I wanted to play.

Jubez1873714d ago

As a business student, I have to disagree heavily with some points.

_FantasmA_3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

Paying to use your own internet, DLC (all of it, I'd rather have expansion packs with a ton of content), DLC coming out a week after the game's release, incomplete games with missing sections sold as DLC, pre order bonuses, short and pointless campaigns, not having server lists (like COD which insert you into random games and maps), expensive and permanent digital prices, yearly sequels with minor changes at full price, lack of challenging AI, lack of originality, and most of Micro$ofts "business practices." This may sound like a hateful statement, but I blame M$ for bringing most of these things to consoles. I remember when there free and inexpensive map packs on Live in the early years of 2006 and 2007, then they started pinching pennies.

MaxwellBuddha3714d ago

Who else here has been gaming long enough to remember when paying $50 got you the WHOLE game? No left-out content sold as DLC, disc-locked content, season passes, outfits, avatars, etc.

Excuse me, I need to go have a cry at what has happened to my beloved hobby.

Derekvinyard133714d ago

Amen brother, plus there wasn't as much bugs as there was today. Nearly 80% of games have patches

Vegetarianshark3714d ago (Edited 3714d ago )

Ea happened,Capcom happened these giant shameless corporations has bastardized the gaming industry with their BS money-grabbing tactics and ruined so many amazing games (Battlefield,Resident evil and many more).Very sad indeed.
