Heavenly Sword Review- 9.7 "Near Perfect"

What a month of games this has turned out to be. The Xbox 360 receiving Bioshock, Nintendo Wii has Metroid Prime 3 and the Playstation 3 gets Warhawk and Heavenly Sword. Has there ever been a better time to be a gamer? Heavenly Sword, developed by British development team Ninja Theory, is without a doubt the most anticipated Playstation 3 release to date. Ironically for a game developed in Britain is the remarkable Japanese feel to it. Never has a game had so much hype behind it and a lot of eyes will be watching to see just how good this title is. While it won't make or break Sony and their Playstation 3 efforts, if this game doesn't do well, there may be trouble ahead. Thankfully Heavenly Sword manages the almost impossible task of surpassing any hype surrounding it.

This game will be a day one purchase indeed for me as well, i just wish people can just give a game credit where credit is due. Yes by my screen name is can deduced as i like the 360 which i do very much, just recently bought a PS3 beginning of August. So now i can enjoy all these killer apps both systems have to offer that's the point isn't it? Well i know better to ask that LOL don't answer it fanboys. But after downloading HS demo i was instantly hooked on the game i like me some hack and slash games and this one looks to be above your average hack and slasher judging by early reviews, while the demo does leave an impression of just hack and slash the scope of the game is what looks promising and the story behind it. Very nice though the PS3 game wave is about to start here in few short weeks Lair and HS for me day one purchases.

This is a game I was always getting, but this high review makes me wonder if I can trust any of these reviews...

I need a real game review from like IGN / GAMESPOT / GAMESPY / GAMETRAILERS before I can get all excited. Because this site also gave Warhawk a crazy high review number too.

Now warhawk is good but it's not that good.. come on' when you give a game a 9.9 (heavenly sword) in graphics that's like saying nothing on the system even comes close to looking this good. No game can basically top this, and that's just not the case.

Just don't like the PS3's price tag and lack of great games. I'm a gamer and will game on any system that has the games, and doesn't cost me an arm and a leg to play. Bioshock is more then 'just' a shooter. People are putting the game between Zelda, Mario and Half Life 2. I think Heavenly Sword won't get there.

Its easy for Mart to say "Its just like God of War" cos thats like a shortcut to thinking. I'm pretty sure its a whole lot more than that.

But even if it was, is that such a bad thing? GoW2 is still a candidate for GotY across all platforms as far as I'm concerned. Its more epic and has more a next gen feel then anything released on Xbox this year, but I reserve my final decision until I've played Bioshock properly.

i think you need to sit down with heavenly sword for a minute or two. the game plays more like ninja gaiden than god of war, to be honest with you.

i dont know anyone that STILL compares HS to GoW after playing the demo oh! and no, random button mashing doesnt count as playing if you cant button mash your way through the whole game. the only thing they have in common is the context buttons; but you dont hear people comparing HS to RE4 do you?

the bioshock demo was great. it may be the next title i buy, but putting it next to zelda and mario is a HUGE stretch. i highly doubt it will span a 20 year franchise that people will compare everything in its genre to years from now.

What has the history to do with nextgen gaming?

In gaming terms Ireland isn't that important, as is Denmark. USA, UK and Japan are though. Japan = Wiiland, USA = 360land, UK is a draw on 360 and PS3 (but was former Playstationnation).

For the rest, Ireland isn't such a big player, besides Irish beer, which is good.

BTW, this Playstation based website starts reviewing from 9 and up. The mark after the dot stands for the real mark. Warhawk also hit a 9.6 at this site huh

You made a comment that sales numbers and reviews of games are different things. Yes they are. The problem is that you used this site as a source. A source is a source and you used them. Don't try and minimize these guys because they gave a PS3 game a positive review.

Bioshock is no AAA title if its not a system seller ... or is it? Some people define AAA as a combined review above 9.x. What is it? There are plenty of highly rated titles that did not move units in the store. Likewise, there are plenty of crap titles that moved systems. Let's not use AAA so casually.

I will be getting this game! Hmmm, I think those numbers will probly drop a little when the popular sites post their reviews. No matter, if you like hack and slash with a little finesse, then this game is right for you. Yje only thing I do not like bout this game is her hair and the fact that the demo is toooooo short, but I stil had a blast playing it. I do not focus on reviews from websites that only review games from one system, example OXM. IGN, Gamespot are reliable sources, but still I wait for the one that matters the most.....me. :)

Hey Xbox fans. Take a look at Masseffect. Watch closly on the texture of faces, clothes, backgrounds and more. Now take a close look at Heavenly Sword. Now if you do not see the diffrence in quality I dont know what. Heavenly Sword on a High def tv is awesome and the diffrence between the 360 graphics and PS3 is miles wide to the PS3 favour. That is just the graphics. Heavenly Sword sound is fantastic. Clarity in sound and great orchestration is essential for a good game. The only game that touches that is Halo. Now you know what Im getting at. Now I know 360 fans has a very hard time to really take a closer look, but its worth it. When you really se it infront of you on a high def tv, you will be amazed how much greater the PS3 is when it comes to high def textures and more. Im not hating 360, I am stating the obvious facts. Remeber to not be bias when you do this, clear your minds, and perhaps you will be elevated.

Kind of a short review and left me with more questions than answers, but it does sound amazing. 12 hours/day at five days equals a pretty long game. If it graphically holds up to the handful of really great looking games this fall (on both the PS3 and 360), it'll be a solid winner. Not long now and we'll know the real story.

This is a pro-sony website, though, and their reviews seem to be awfully high on some of the more "average" games. To be fair, though some of the Bioshock reviews are from Xbot fansites, too...

If Bioshock coming out of nowhere and getting all these 9's and 10's nearly perfect game has influenced some of these Sony tilted websites. It's like well if you have a perfect game then uhhh SO DO WE! haha I could be wrong, and I've played the demo and I would not give this game anywhere near the score's so far. Yet, I've played Bioshock and even just the demo amazed me a lot more than HS did.

I will still be getting the game on day 1 but I am curious to see the remaining reviews.

I do agree with the comment that the facial animation gives Mass Effect a run for it's money, the sync is spot perfect while ME doesn't always match.

It's as if an opinion isn't related in game reviews anymore. Not that another supposedly "professional opinion" should make or break a game for you anyway, but because a reviewer isn't paid by some big name publisher or webmaster, doesn't mean that their opinion is invalid.

We tend to forget that regardless of bad framerates, clipping, canned animations, loose controls and all of the usual bad criteria we see these days, that the most important thing is that we ENJOY games. I think that's been the deal with the mediocre Lair reviews tbh. It's obviously a top notch production, the concept itself just doesn't please some of the people reviewing it, but I digress.

I couldn't care less about review scores, I just read them for the opinions and gameplay mechanics, but folks...we really need to stop getting up in arms about this. Professional or not, anyone can slant or twist information as they see fit, it makes no difference. Stop being sheep and stand on your own two.

This game is a minor improvement only to the old Mortal Combat games, meaning there's "NO" free roaming at all, if your about to travel to a different area to fight, which is all you do, your taken to a CGI or ingame video so to speak and your given the stupid option to jump and press a button to get there, if you don't press it, you still get there but you miss a certain landing combo, so it's a very linear game, no free roaming, to say it's close to an RPG is so much a lie.

That's only the first reason why this game is a rental only, unless you love Mortal Combat in 2007.

Also, as stated above, wait til a creditable site reviews the game and you'll get a more accurate review and the games short commings. This game should bore the average gamer in about 3 hours of play.

I have went through the MS repair department in McAllen Texas mores times then I would like to admit. The "fastest" turn around I ever had with them was 17 days. Now I do know a couple friends of mine that got theirs back in 2 weeks or less but that is more a rarity then a reality.

MS themselves tell you the turn around is 2 to 4 weeks off the top but if you pump them for info / truth they will tell you the average wait time is 4 to 6 weeks. I know 8 epople that have had their 360's replaced with in the last 2 months (yeah I know how freaking sad is that?) and the wait time was 2 week but the average was nearly 4.

1 of my friend did get his back, so he claims, in under 2 weeks. The longest I ever waited? 43 days!

You can disagree with me all you want and take bubbles away as well but I am telling the truth. The 360 is far and away my primary gaming system but the repair department for MS, just like their POS hardware, is horrible at best.

1. Hardware count sales

2. Reviewing a game

The first is done by facts, to check, just the sales, objective, you can check.

The second is done by a persons feeling for a game, subjective, one you can only check by a large amount of reviews. Like those of Bioshock where the average mark is somewhere between a 9.5 and a 10.

Now, what do we have here. NextGenIreland that gives HS a 9.7, Warhawk a 9.6 (didn't I see a 6.5 review of a trusted website somewhere around?) and COD3 a 9.2??? Gimme a break
