New Buzz: Play Magazine gives Heavenly Sword 10/10

The forums have been hot lately with rumors and speculations. Some come to past while others fade to black. The hot topic just in on the forums is a member claiming he read a play magazine in which the upcoming PS3 exclusive Heavenly Sword recieved a perfect score of 10/10. Here are some of the alleged quotes from the "Play" Mag article.

EGM reviewed the Not edited build of the lair, while there was one source that reviewed the edited version, and it got 9 (gotcha) then there was some harsh reviewing team that gave gears of war an 8 while they gave lair a 9.

for the longest time i didn't ignore themart cos even tho he was a maniac and completely blinded to anything good ps3-wise, i read his comments so i could have a good laugh. This was the PS3 title I was anticipating most. After playing the demo the action seemed slower than GOW and a lot slower than Ninja Gaiden.

Not sure if I am going to buy it anymore. I guess Uncharted has moved to the top of my PS3 list

The combat system for that short five minutes was amongst some of the deepest in recent memory.

Keep in mind, you can say whatever you like, everyone has different tastes, but to call it shallow as if it's fact? Say it's boring, say in your eyes, it feels bland, but don't say that it lacked depth, it most certainly did not.

Play reviews on sheer enjoyment, score, atmosphere, gameplay, fun factor, evolutionary/revolutionary moments and elements...combined. They don't bring a score down because the title isn't flawless...In other words they honor a title's strengths before weakness...the way
it should be...

And I read the Lair EGM review...they so wanted to like it and for it to be perfect...5.0 is average in that magazine. When most gamers think average we think 7/10, right? Average means some like it some don't and on the fence...sometimes people have to play games without reviews clouding their heads..think of a game you played without reading a review first that you absolutely loved...you could care less about a review...Wii owners could care less!

i don't care *WHAT type of review it gets; i'm picking this baby up on launch day.

my time with it at E3 2006, and my time with the demo the past few weeks has cemented this game as a must have purchase.

Lair, i'm willing to wait until i rent it, but Heavenly Sword, as well as Warhawk, are day one purchases.

as for the topic, a 10/10 is hard to believe in this day and age, but i'm beginning to think that journalists are just finally starting to warm up to the PS3.

it was such a knee-jerk reaction to rate a PS3 game lower than everybody else's game, because they don't access the 4th Dimension (i mean, some places actually gave Resistance: Fall of Man a 5 and 6! 8 at the lowest in my opinion), despite the fact that they know early, year one games are generally very sub-par.

now, after such a strong showing at various press events and shows, the PS3 is looking rather good. the media, and some formerly jaded gamers, aren't so dismissive of the console, and are willing to give the games released a fair shake.

while i do think 10/10 is hard to swallow, i wouldn't be surprised if, ultimately, it got 9/10. the 5 years of hard work on this title have clearly paid off (i mean, just *LOOK at the damn thing!).

in the end, the only review that matters is my own. sadly, it will have to wait until September 12th before i know.

Not just because it's a pro-Sony post but because you were correct with everything you said.

A lot of the 360 guys are good sports, those people I like. You know the ones I mean, the guys that may have some underlying bias for the 360 but on the whole they stay objective and if a game is good (like HS) they'll say it's good.

I tend to use that useful ignore button on guys that are blatant fanboys. It's okay to have a slight bias towards your console of choice because you paid your money for it, but attacking a competing console or game because you don't (or can't) own it is pathetic and that's the fanboyism I hate.

i don't see why people feel the need to bash other consoles. there are rational PS3/360/Wii fans, who understand that, eventually, the "competition" may release some games that will make any sort of anti-whatever statements very hypocritical.

i'm dying to play Alan Wake, Bioshock, Mass Effect, and Too Human just as badly as the most ardent 360 fan; those games look *GREAT. i don't have a 360, but those four titles are certainly pushing me towards one.

the reason why i'm not picking up a 360 this fall, is simply because i own a PS3 already, and my plate is full from all the PS3 releases hitting from end of August, through to December (at least 15 in all), so i just wouldn't have the money to support *TWO consoles this year (ignore that the PS3's early 2008 lineup is *ALSO looking killer, meaning i'll be holding off on a 360 until, at the *LEAST, fall 2008).

of course, by the time i pick up my 360, the four titles i mentioned previously will probably be discounted, which would be good. that, and i'm waiting for their hardware concerns to be sorted out for good. i don't want to shell out $400 or more on something i'm only marginally confident will not break on me.

we're all gamers, we all love the same thing, but this brand loyalty has reached *RIDICULOUS levels. i bought the PS3 because i *LIKE it. end of story. i like what it offered back in February (the time i got my PS3), and i like what it's offering this fall.

it's unfortunate for my pocketbook that i also like what the 360 is offering, as it leaves me in quite a predicament, really. ahh well, i have enough good games to tide me over, so i won't miss not owning a 360 too much (my roommate has one anyway, so i'll still probably be able to play all the good 360 games regardless!lol)

HS and GOW both into the "hack-n-slash" category. Sort of.
Anyone who has actually played the demo, or read what the developer has said, will tell you hacking and slashing is going to get you only so far.
You will get your ass handed to you if that's the way you try and play it. You HAVE to use the correct stance for defence. You HAVE to use counters for certain situations.

Heveanly Sword is simply amazing a must buy. Since it was created for ps3 and only the ps3 the company(ninja theory) could concentrate all their energy and time into this game for the ps3. I'm not sure if I buy a 10/10, but everything I've seen of this game looks fantastic. The characters are beautifully done and the combat moves... they aren't the same tired moves repeated over and over like some games I've seen. I was really impressed to see the video that showed the evolution of the game from the beginning concepts to its current state.

The only thing that bugs me so far about Heavenly Sword (and I guess it's pretty trivial) is the hair. It looks like ribbons or something. I can't help but think Final Fantasy. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on this game. I'll have to reserve judgment until then.

Heavenly Sword is already off to a good start, but it still has to get past a lot of other publications to get widespread attention. Publications which especially favor 360 games such as 1UP and Gamestop will be the final determining factor on whether this game makes it main stream and really sells or not.
