Killzone 2 and Lair: More Rumors from supposed Sony Employee

Here comes speculation from a previous employee of Sony about Killzone 2. Note his credentials cannot be validated, but he provides this evidence for the truth of his words:

"Just thought I'd post in response to people asking for proof. I'm just passing on information from one of my best friends, who works at Sony. If I had proof, you would have proof.

I agree that it sounds almost unbelievable, but I obviously believe it because I know that he wouldn't lie and works in the environment where this information is available.

For example when I worked there I played on heavenly sword, which was 18 months ago (very early code running on a dev kit, the enemies where either blue or pink), and i played on the PSP well before its release.

But as I said I'm just passing info on..."

This is what he claims to have heard:

"As some may know I used to work at Sony, and I was speaking to a friend still there last night, trying to get some details out of him over a few pints. Now he isn't working on Killzone 2 but he's been told and shown a few things. Here's what he said;

1. He seen a gameplay video. Graphically he said it was better than the E3 trailer, but personally I think he was just a bit over exited because it looked amazing.

2. NPC's react realistically to where they are shot. The example he said is that a Helghast was hit in the hand and it shook its hand as if in pain, and also if shot in the leg blood seeps out of the exact area shot.

3. For multiplayer each server is like a world, with villages and towns, and your battling for control. If Helghast controlled it looks run down, if ISA controlled it looks nice, with residents living there.

He said the game is very far along too."

This previous employee also claims that Lair's GFX are spectacular but the gameplay is lacking.

points 2 and 3 seem soooo plausable it seem true. point 3 in particular... with a game that is going to try to rival halo 3 there has to be something unique in the multiplayer match that stands out and as sony hopes will be better that halo's way. point 3 is so simple but relativly groundbreaking. it brings more single player elements into multiplayer with more dynamics thrown in.

point 2 seems very plausable considering that sony has already touted the physics of the game. if things explode realistacally how can they not make the enemy react after being shot in the same way as a building being exploded would react?

and point 1... if points 2 and 3 are true point 1 could be true. but! i am STRONGLY scepticle of this. and like the poster said..."but personally I think he was just a bit over exited because it looked amazing." its going to look amazing no matter what and i remember phill harrison saying that some elements of the e3 trailer had already been surpassed in the actual game development. sooooooooo........

in conclusion who knows? only sony now. SO LETS ALL JUST WAIT FOR THIS EPIC E3 TO COME!!!(for nintendo fanboys, 360 fanboys, and ps3 fanboys alike)

Well let me enter the debate here, since i stared at this link for nigh on an hour...thinking "IS this news worthy?"

I concluded it is NOT news worthy, but that it could be posted as a rumour. I then remembered what N4g was....a social website, to discuss and speculate, and not only for reliable news. Now this does not mean all rumours can be posted, or all forum posts....as many of them breed confrontation and deliberate mistruths...

However, this is harmless, for there is no console bashing, plus I have painted it as a rumour, and said that he cannot prove the legitimacy of his comments. All this "I know my auntie" stuff is a poor reply, for he CLAIMS to be a previous Sony employee, and also sounds sincere.

Waiting until e3 is wise, but since this is a social site, conversations and speculation could pursue....what I found interesting was not point number 1, but points 2 and 3. Could conversation not remain there?

This site is being hampered by the places where we get are info from. Not one of hundred's of rumours reported came out true. I just dislike that joystiq, destructoid, 1up, and kotaku take information from this site as if accurate. All the mgs 4, tekken 6, and ff13 rumours were mostly based on these forums and usually spreads becasuse of this site.

I think you said it all there. This game must be turning out really really impressive or they wouldnt give it 2.5 hrs. Well, on Killzone.com, it shows a map of which places oare under Helghast Control, and what every strategic point means. I wouldn't be surprised at all if that website gave us up to date info on the battle.

So the multiplayer rumour is POSSIBLE and PLAUSIBLE. But it's also a little too good to be true.

What I care about is how I find KZ2 to be, and the only way for me to find out how it is, is by having Sony show it.

Yeah you're right. Warhawk is a blast to play even in the beta stage and I already got that in my must-buy list. It would just suck for people like me who won't have a lot of time to play once fall semester start. Madden online, then you have warhawk, and then Haze, and finally Killzone 2. That's why it doesn't really bother me if MGS4 really got pushed till next year because we all know that one will have an online mode too which will turn out amazing itself. As for Lair, I'm pretty much sold with this game. There are really two things that worries me, the storyline and the gameplay.

I remember seeing the e3 footage from 2 years ago and being super pumped about the "next-gen" then it came and I was under impressed. If this proves to be true, which I doubt at the moment, I mean I just can't see such a huge leap in graphics over not only everything shown so far, but everything in development (except crysis), then I will have to try and convince my wife to buy a PS3, because then i will have seen that all the potential that sony says is there, may actually be tapped before the next gen is again upon us.

no...this time Sony really IS hyping Killzone...2.5 hours of precious E3'ish air time is a huge deal...this is the biggest event to reveal the biggest announcements...

Sony has everything riding on this one now...and if anything I find it more reassuring that they are willing to put this game up for such a large amount of scrutiny...they know about the hole they dug with the trailer, and they either truely have something that contains stuff they we have never seen before in any video game...or they are extremely confused on how the business works...

Personally after that trailer fiasco I thought this game would slip under the radar and just eventually pop up with no hype at all...kind of how the original did...it got the standard dose of Sony publishing (a few short tv spots and mag ads)...and that was it...it was the media before the game launched that made people expect a lot...There is no denying that the first one set up an intriguing story, and that was it...the game itself was pretty bad...mostly because it was broken on a few areas (framerate, tearing, horrid voice work)...but this time around Sony themselves are making a big deal out of it...a 180 from their stance on the first game...

If the game sucks then why would Sony have a presentation just for that game. Don't know if it will look as good as the trailer but Sony wouldn't waste the time or the money to show this game for 2.5 hours for nothing. They could have just made it part of their conference and called it a day. Don't know but I personally have high hopes. But one thing I know for sure is that I'm going to be broke this Xmas. I own both PS3 and 360 and they both have some great games coming out. But, I doubt the Ps3 will hit $399.99 anytime soon.

In Canada its $699.99 atm and in US its $599.99 i think. Which would mean atm it would be better to buy a PS3 in US since price is at least $100 more since the CAN$ and US$ are fairly close. But overall a $100 price drop would be great so then I can finally get my hands on a PS3.

Well it is time for SONY to just take out the curtain that covers KILLZONE drama and let the world know what they are doing. Expectations are really high for this game. Even if it doesnt play well we just want to know why SONY wanted the people to believe thay have bought the most powerfull console.

They have a lot to prove specially for their fans. Fans of the PS3 are in the worst possition rigth now. With all the crappy porting, the rush job of some titles, the bad press and the undeniable stong momentum of the 360; we need KILLZONE to really surpass that unfamous E3 05 trailer. Also we dont want just a pretty game running at just 30 FPS. I (and other PS3 fans) need to be convinvced of the PS3 superiority if theres any. We need to finally know if the problems that some devs are confronting are really because of lazyness or just the PS3 not being so powerfull. So KILLZONE better be beyond that mentioned trailer.

Killzone has a lot to prove to us the fans, to the 360 fans that are alert just to bash anything and give the PS3 a bad press. It has to prove developers what they can do with time and effort. It has to prove the press that the PS3 is worthy. If KILLZONE is really better than the CG, all the people I mentioned will be shut. Xbox 360 ONLY fans will be afraid and development is definetly going to change in favor of the PS3. If KILLZONE FAILS... SO DOES THE PS3!!. ITS YOUR LAST CHANCE SONY!! I find it quite funny how much hope supposedly rests on KZ2 alone. I hope it does show the world what the PS3 can do, but even if it doesn't Heavenly Sword is the game I want to play. Drake's Fortune is shaping up nice and according to Sony they have some games unseen yet in any format.

I think KZ2 will be awesome on all fronts, from graphics to gameplay to AI. This game will have it all, why? Because if it does Sony has been right all along and the doubters who said that the CG demo could not be done for another 5 years will have to eat their words. $20million dollars in developement will do that and Sony know that if KZ2 is that damn good they will crack America open (FPS always do well in America).

Considering how Killzone: Liberation turned out, I really have high hopes for KZ2 and I'm convinced that GG can deliver an awesome game. Also, like I said in my old post, there is really no excuse anymore for GG to fail with KZ2. They have all the resources. They have 20 million in funding, they have well enough time for development, they have the manpower, and they have Sony watching their backs.

I know I sound like a Sony fan boy, but I have respect for what Microsoft and Nintendo have achieved. For me the winner so far is Nintendo, they have achieved nearly 10 million consoles in around half the time of the 360. Microsoft have sold enough consoles to set up a user base big enough to fend off Sony for over a year.

So okay put the shoe on the other foot. What happens to game developement if KZ2 is better than the original demo? Will it kill Halo 3?

One game doesn't make a console, but to think that KZ2 will not live up to expectations is not gonna happen.

They had no need to show it this year, most of the excitement was already on Heavenly Sword, Warhawk and Lair. They are showing this to show what the PS3 can do.

No, it's not like that. Microsoft never said Halo 3 will look as good as Gears, and they never showed an awesome looking CGI trailer and say the game will look like this. So if Killzone doesn't live up to the hype Sony created, he's right for not wanting to play it. He wants his $600 worth off graphics and gameplay, and right he is.

Hey I'm pretty sure with a budget like it has, that Killzone 2 will be pretty nice. But I can't see on earth how it could even be close to that e3 cg trailer we all saw.
I mean, come on! A 4 grand PC game does not even look like that so how could a console (ps3 or 360) game look like that in real time?

It's just too much. I definantly believe they will deliver on this game, but if the hype goes further than what we have seen in the trailer than it could turn out bad. Even if they deliver exactly like the trailer showed, people are then goig to say "well what about that realistic behaviour of the enemies that they said would be there?".

I once worked at sony and was Ken's right hand man. Told them to add another 128 mb of ram in the system so they made it 256mb for the vga. Now we can watch in amazement at CGI looking graphics.

Yep as for Kz2, once you start the game it will connect automatically to all the cells across the world to render pixar like graphics in realtime and you'd be blown away as it will look better than Terminator 2 graphics.

Ok, so last night after a long day of driving in traffic from the pre-fourth celebration I got home, unpacked my things and told the wife I was going to play on the PS3 a bit. I got onto R:FOM and since I hadn't played in a month or two due to exams I was crap at my two best weapons (shotties and sniper rifles) so after a best finish of 3rd at the bus yard I said hey let me go into the home beta and see what's going on. So I connect to home check the news and head from my homespace to the gamerspace. To my surprise there were about 12 people clamoring around one dude. I was like wtf, so I walk over and listen in on the conversation. The guy says who he is, lets just call him Bill Berrison OK, so Bill is talking about the PS3 and the Playstation brand and I ask him a few questions and he responds then he invites me to a private conversation. Im like cool even though it is getting late. So Bill and I talk about games upcoming and E3 stuff and rumble. Then he disappears and Im like where did he go? Oh well then I get an invite to Bill's place. So I accept thinking he has some other cool stuff to show me, and he does. His place is nothing like my or anybody else's homespace, he's got separate rooms, and videos on the wall, a chandelier, balconies with a view of New York on one side Tokyo on the other, and even a toilet (yes I sat on it and it was cushioned). So Bill's not talking much and when I walk out of the toilet I all like 'I gotta go man early morning tomorrow'. And then all of a sudden there is a bed and my shirt is gone and I ask 'how is KZ2?' and he says "Real Freaky Naughty". Then I ran to my homespace and told my mom who was instantly scared and said "Your moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel Air" Well I whistled for a cab and when it came near, I noticed the license said "Fresh" and there were dice on the mirror, Now if anything I could say that this cab was rare, But I thought man forget it Yo home for Bel Air. Sounds like 4D Graphics are comming starting with this game, Rumor #2 sounds like a 4D trait to me. If this game does match the trailer, people are going to stop comparing the 360 to the PS3 and compare the PS3 to the PC lol

Whether this is true or not, it highlights something I've been trying to get across.

For me, the biggest difference between Xbox and PS3 isn't the graphics Thats all people go on and on about. For me the difference is the freedom to implement all these other systems that will really sell a game as next gen. This shaking the hand when shot there is a good example of what I mean. Or maybe some like hitting a wall near an enemies head and chipping a bit off and gets in his eye. This might sound silly, but its non scripted, reactionary behaviour. Graphics are already so advanced but AI can go so much futher. And emergant gameplay like in LBP where unexpected thing happen simple based on the rules of the world.

Everyone going to be looking at whether the graphics match the trailer but Im more intersted in whether the chaos matches the trailer and I believe its easily, achieveable. In sections Resistance has already done it with the sheer scope of the battle and amount of action goin on at once.

Because nobody ie the gamers actually know if Killzone can match the trailer(we have a pretty good idea of course hehe) , that itself has been very powerfull for Sony - they can tell us anything frankly and because we don't know ,we end up believing it may actually be possible then.

I'd imagine Sony banking on us forgeting how good the trailer was initially and so hoping we love what they show at E3 - which will likely be a very good showing of the game.Will it be enough?Find out soon enough

It is doubtful that it is not as good, as I posted before Sony had no need to show this. With the other games out this year there may have been some grumbles, a little flaming and Haze would have been the FPS this year for the PS3.

I think it won't just be in game, I think it will be playable, showing single and multiplayer. Not just that I think Vs and Co-op. Why? The 20million it has stood Sony at so far without the money that Gorilla put into the project.

Look at it this way: if it is as good as / better than the demo from 2005, running comfortably at 60fps then the PS3 will finaly get some recognition.

The 360 will benefit in the long run if the game is that good, because 10 million users is hard to ignore and then the software companies will try to outdo KZ2. That is why I hope that all of 360's games deliver this year, because then the PS3 games will juest keep on getting better.
