Bugged Playstation 3 units returning to normal

Examiner: It seems like the massive Playstation 3 outage yesterday may be coming to an end. Multiple forums posters are reporting that their Playstation 3 models are beginning to function properly again.

My 120GB models (2) functioned normally. I just fired up my launch 60Gb model and it signed in and synchronized the trophies.

I knew this would make certain 360 fanboys look bad. The 360 gets the RROD and dies but the PS3 is so wicked tough it can fix itself...

A lot of newspapers in my country has picked this story up. Bad for Sony, because I don't think they deserve it. I have experienced minor PSN outages (1-2hrs) in the 2 years i have had a PS3. Thats not bad.

But this will probably be fixed in the next firmware update, so it won't happen in the future.

The problem was/will never be as big as the RROD (history defining failure) phenomenon. People just wanted to bash the ps3 for it's constant AAA's and recent momentum. Also some desperate sites wanted to shift some people towards the inferior 360 version of FF13.

Some people talk about moving mountains, but Sony moved the damn international date line just to get this clock error fixed for their fans...either that or they flashed us forward and then back again through time without our knowledge just to hook us up. Either way, Sony's customer service can't be beat. :)

On topic: My slim has been fine, haven't fired up the 60 GB phatty in the bedroom yet, so I don't know about that one. Only trophy issue I noticed is my HR trophies didn't post to us.playstation.com. I'm not worried though, because the same thing happened with Demon's Souls and was corrected shortly thereafter. Good gaming to all.

Turn off your router
Turn on your ps3
Set the date and time to manual (don't worry about losing your themes)
Set time and date to current
turn off the ps3
Reboot router
Turn on ps3
You may need to change the time again to current
Turn off and on again and tada you are good to go!!!!!

Only takes 5 minutes max!

If you are hooking up the ps3 to a different tv you need to reset the tv settings on your ps3, i can't remember how you do that but i think you need to press and hold the on button for a few sec's for it to reset,

i think it was : put it in stand by mode and then press and hold the on button for a few sec's untill it blinks a few times.

there is a "Video" setting you need to change, the default is outputting SD video. (btw. curse Sony for not adding HDMI cable to their PS3 box)

Hold your power button down for a few seconds when you power up. your PS3 will reset its video settings and detect what your using. That should sort it.

The good news, though, is that when you try to update the PS3 via the internet, it says "latest firmware already installed. No need to update the system", which means that apparently, the PS3 does check the internet (because it can tell there's no need to update the system), which means it's not entirely logged off, which HAS TO mean Sony can issue a patch to fix this, and just tell the users to manually update their PS3 using the appropriate option "update via internet" (or something)

UPDATE: PS3 is back onliiiiiine!! Woohoo!
Contrary to what I was saying, my fiddling with the date & time didn't prevent the PS3 from being back to normal. So, to all the readers of this thread, you guys DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT FIDDLING WITH THE PS3'S INTERNAL CLOCK, it's all right. And it appears you don't even have to fiddle with your router or PS3's internet connection option either.

If you're missing a game from your trophy list you just need to start the game and then try doing a trophy sync. UC2 didn't even show under my trophy list. I started the game, quit, checked and saw the trophy list again for UC2 (with 0%). I synced with the server and bam, 51% of trophies again.

For me it's an offline issue my Final Fantasy VII stopped working yesterday (same error message) and now it's working, it's the internal clock bug - only lasts 24hrs. 360 fan boys got the laugh but it only lasted 24hrs and it's nothing like RROD, lol.

Hi guys, i was eager to boot up my ps3 again to start playin.. As soon as i booted the ps3 and logged in to PSN (worked after bug), everything seemed OK, but then i changed the DATE settings of the ps3, set to internet settings, after that i played heavy rain for half an hour and suddenly the ps3 shutdown, and when i rebooted, YLOD (Yellow light of death) appeared! Could this be because i changed the date and something corrupted? I always took 100% care of my PS3 and found it a bit odd that the YLOD occured about 1hr after the bug fix.

Can someone please help me?

I'm really glad this has sorted itself out, and was only a 24 hour problem. It was quite funny looking on various websites, and reading comments where people were so angry that they couldn't play on their PS3's for a day!

Before being aware of what was the specific reason behind this bug yesterday,just when i discovered that heavy rain didnt play.I though that if i deleted the game data it would make it to function properly...This didnt help of course, i turned off my ps3 and i found out what the problem was on internet...Today i turned on my ps3 and i tried to play Heavy rain.Of course the system has to re-install the game that i had deleted yesterday.But the instalation crashes...I deleted the every game or save data of Heavy Rain and still nothing...I tried with the 1.01 patch or without it but still the instalation crashes in the beggining...PLEASE HELP ME im desperate...How a game that hasnt any data on my ps3 crashes on me??
