Uncharted 2 closing on 3 million; MAG over 500K copies sold

Jack Tretton: Games like UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves are surpassing our lofty expectations as it outsold the franchise's first PS3 game and is now closing in on three million copies sold worldwide. Over half a million of you have already chosen your allegiance in MAG, and have played over 270,000 games in the Shadow War.

Now that is some class

"we have an onslaught of new IP and blockbuster games just around the corner with Heavy Rain, God of War III, and Final Fantasy XIII… not to mention the many other games we’re keeping up our sleeves. "

Glad to be part of the Playstation Nation

deadreckoning6665177d ago

WOW, M.A.G already sold 500,000k. Thats impressive. I wasn't expecting that at all.

gamingisnotacrime5177d ago

are amazing in their respective turf, and responsible for many hours playing on my PS3, which were/are full of total enjoyment.
I hope U2 reache 4-5 million within the next 12 months, and MAG better keep selling because that game is awesome and many gamers should enjoy it as much as i do

RememberThe3575177d ago

From what We have seen of the NPD either most of those sale were in Europe or the game just had a slow start. Good to hear about Uncharted 2, that was one hell of an experience.

KingME5177d ago

Those are world wide sells.

doG_beLIEfs5177d ago (Edited 5177d ago )

"Now that is some class"

Notice once again Sony just talks about THEIR games, and does not even mention the competition.

Jack could have said yes we were outsold in NA but we kicked MS's azz in WW sales but he didn't, he just talked about SONY'S games.

That is one of the many differences between Sony and MS.....CLASS

Yes he will take a pot shot at MS here and there but nothing approaching the level of stupid spewing from Greenbergs hole.

@marius

look at all your bubbles now, when did that happen?

Saaking5177d ago

Great sales for two very great games. I'm glad to see them selling well.

Blaze9295177d ago (Edited 5177d ago )

Over 500k for MAG o_O? The game wasn't even in the top 10 for NPD. Either it got off to a slow start here in the US or just took off in other territories.

EDIT:

Ok so there seems to be some confusion with this title or just with me. Where in the world is 500k mentioned?

RememberThe3575177d ago (Edited 5177d ago )

More to your point. In a GameInformer interview Shuhei Yoshida, head of Sony's Worldwide Studios, was asked about their motion controller games and peoples concerns that they will be much like Wii's so called "shovel ware".

He resounded with this; "We were looking at the Wii and how it changed the games and the industry. We are aware that we do certain things well and don't so certain things well. I don't want to talk about other companies' technology, but I firmly believe this is the beginning of something much, much bigger..."

I don't care what you say about Sony but this man has yet to say a single arrogant statement. Talk about humility...

Edit: Blaze, "Over half a million of you have already chosen your allegiance in MAG.." It's right below the picture.

Nikuma5177d ago

Blaze read the article and don't just skim through for a 500K number.

"Over half a million of you have already chosen your allegiance in MAG, and have played over 270,000 games in the Shadow War."

Blaze9295177d ago

Yes, seriously. If you can show me please do. If you are referring to "Over half a million of you have already chosen your allegiance in MAG" I think its mistake otherwise why not say over a half a million sold right after speaking on Uncharted 2 sales? That's a shift of message and a VP business man like Trent is sure to know English grammar rules like that no?

But maybe I'm just wrong. If it's in the article and I'm missing it please point it out. If it's that quote and I'm misinterpreting please explain.

I mean really, VG Chartz, who usually is off by lets say, ~100k only has the game at 0.33 million. So wtf?

I mean, if someone here can literally proove MAG sold over 500k then I'm wrong but I think he probably means played including BETA stats.

AridSpider5177d ago

Actually, I kind of agree with Blaze on this one. I don't think he meant 500k copies sold. It doesn't add up...maybe he meant every player that played the game so far including beta/demo testers. I dunno, just my thought.

doG_beLIEfs5177d ago

There are 3 of my PSN friends where since MAG came out that is all they play. I am not much for online FPS's but I have never seen dedication to 1 game like this b4. I usually chat with them quite often but since MAG all I can get out of them is 1 or 2 word answers and then its back to MAG.

This game is laying the groundwork for future Sony FPS's. Can u imagine KZ3 with that many players?

Zipper is a great developer and its good to see their groundbreaking game doing so well.

bioshock12215177d ago

500k I doubt its probably shipped numbers. I mean It didn't even get in the top 10 NPD numbers and in Japan it isn't doing well. So I doubt its been selling well in europe.

BlackAvenger75177d ago

bought MAG yesterday and I like the game very much so far, its much harder than other fps games and I could't believe that team work is needed until I played some Acquisition.. and the graphics are way better than I expected.. the bigger the community gets the better!

sikbeta5177d ago

Those 2 Games Are Awesome, UC2 is the Best and Deserve a Lot Of Sales and MAG is Just Pure Sickness, glad to know it sold 500k copies and I hope more people support Both Games.

Gamers FTW!!!

Mr Logic5177d ago

You do realize that NPD only accounts for 6 days of sales and not the whole 17 that it has been out, right?

CryofSilence5177d ago

I'm a proud owner of both games. Both are fantastic. Glad to see success. :)

Chubear5177d ago

that's the fastest an online only game has ever sold. Warhawk took about a year to get to that number and SOCOM about the same I think. This is a great sign. PS3 gamers want more innovation to push their gaming experiences and they aren't letting the naysayers and gaming media dictate what kind of games they want.

Can't wait for developers to see the success of MAG and now start bring massive action games out be they as sword and axe battles or air combat ... or DRAGONS!!!! \O/ now THAT would be insane. thousands of Dragon Riders all on their Dragons doing battle in the air and on land with 300-500 of them being actual gamers and not just NPCs.

Zipper did something fantastic for the future of online gaming here.

...I wonder how much Shadow Run has sold to this point.

RememberThe3575177d ago

Over 1 million people downloaded the MAG beta, so that cannot be what he is referring to.

He is referring to game sales.

DarkTower8055177d ago

If you're going by VgChartz then you should have seen that they don't yet have the sales data for Americas and Others for week 2 of MAG sales. The 319,000 the have is only for the 1st week, MAG is in it's 2nd week of sales already.

http://vgchartz.com/games/g...

SL1M DADDY5177d ago

Very nice! Considering that each sale equals a player in the alience that is some great numbers. Heck, at any given time there are only a few hundred thousand online playing COD so this could be the start of a new "SOCOM" community.

nycredude5176d ago

You fools still hating on mag just get over yourself. the game is amazing and if you have any interest in fps then get the fvck in or get the fvck outta the way. It's way better than the media is saying and blows codooty outta the water. If you've played it for any significant amount of time you would not doubt the 500k plus numbers. 24/7 you can get games no problem 64 players, 128 players, 256 players, you NEVER have a problem getting into a full game and it's damn near no wait at all and no lag.

If you like fps then get off your ass and get in! Hurry up soldier!

Good numbers for M.A.G. It should reach (lol no pun intended) $1.5mill in lifetime sales which is a great achievement for a new IP let alone a multiplayer only one at that.

As for Uncharted 2? well, lets just say it's GOTY09 for a reason.

Hotel_Moscow5177d ago

so far mag has made over 30 million$ so i think their good

snipermk05177d ago

Cos your 360 finally came back from RRoD repairs?

Karooo5177d ago

Buy your games bot. or that applies to only halo and cod? 1 million + day one.

2nd point: There are like 700,000,000 PCs in the world.
3rd point: There was no emphasis on the score - you're a dumbass.

Mooey whats your point? it scored the same on the 360

1st point: It's on PC and so?
2nd point: There are like 700,000,000 PCs in the world.again and so? its already sold over a million just on the 360

so i really dont see what your trying too prove

damnightmare5177d ago

jack who? and MurderTrolls ahhh

Welcome ladies

chrisulloa5177d ago (Edited 5177d ago )

@1.6
LOL are you implying every PC in the world can run ME2?

Foliage5177d ago (Edited 5177d ago )

Well, I've seen people around here say that there are 30+ million 360s out there, but it's a fact that the majority of them don't run. So when you consider Microsoft is the only platform that goes by shipped figures, and that they shipped out 3-14 minimum 360s out to everyone who has one as replacements (and counted them as sold...or as the other platforms would consider them "shipped")... well it's semantics really.

Can every PC run Mass Effect 2? No... but there are more PCs out there that can run it compared to 360s... that's a fact. The 360 doesn't have any thing near impressive in it hardware wise. The majority of PCs sold in stores are more advanced. We aren't talking about the 8 core PS3 here... the 360 is very weak.

There are more computers sold in a year than the 360 has sold in it's life time to date. If you include 2009 and half of 2010, there would be more computers sold in that span than consoles Microsoft has ever sold in it's history.

Give your head a shake, and wiggle it out of your ass.

Major_Tom5177d ago (Edited 5177d ago )

40+ million xbox 360 owners.

1.6 million of them bought Mass Effect 2.

FACT: FLOP.

sak5005177d ago

makes no sense.. how many games broke 1 million sales mark of ps2 games with its 120Million user base?

MajestieBeast5177d ago

4million for sure at the end of 2010 maybe even more great numbers for uncharted 2 same for mag, i still need to pick it up but the god of war trilogy was pretty expensive already plus wkc and heavy rain is my wallet crying.

raztad5177d ago (Edited 5177d ago )

I'm so glad MAG is pulling some decent numbers. With all the hate coming from those that cant play the game + cod fanboys (including some reviewers) game sales have been taking a toll. Lets keep supporting this game guys. MAG deserves to have the strongest and biggest community.

BTW, VGCHARTZ proves again to be a failure. They have MAG on 330K copies WW.

EDIt:

270K rounds? oh sh*t! If we suppose every player died at least once per round, and in average the rounds were of 128 players, we are talking about a whooping 34 millions deaths in just a couple of weeks. "bu bubu nobody is playing mag"

@Too Pwned

So do you really think VGCHARTZ is accurate? highly doubtful. Are UC2 numbers shipped as well?

TOO PAWNED5177d ago

Tretton is probably speaking about "shipped" number, vgchartz counts sold to consumer.

Sevir045177d ago

VG charts counts estimates pulled out of their bum... they always ajust when the offical comes out.

Jinxstar5177d ago (Edited 5177d ago )

"Tretton is probably speaking about "shipped" number, vgchartz counts sold to consumer. "

VG Chartz pulls numbers out of thin air based on their "best guesses"... Which are pretty bad. Not saying Trentton isn't counting shipped but I would be much more inclined to believe him over VGChartz anyday of the year.

VGChartz should team up with Pachter and create a site called "Failguesses.com"...

kneon5177d ago

There are always 20-30k people playing mag whenever I'm on. And that's just in the 3 modes that show a player count, there are also people playing suppression and directives. I haven't tried directives, don't know why it doesn't show a player count.

If the sales numbers are right then we've got about 5%+ of MAG players on at any given time.

Braineater24485177d ago

VGChartz actually hasn't reported last week's sales. Which will most likely put MAG right around 500,000. Sony is most likely including most recent figures. Once again, please educate yourself. Do your homework.

raztad5177d ago (Edited 5177d ago )

@^^^

Bro, the VGCHARTZ info is available
http://www.vgchartz.com/gam...

Better read it right away before they "adjust" it.

@everyone doubting MAG numbers are SOLD.

Read this please:
"Over half a million of you have already chosen your allegiance in MAG, and have played over 270,000 games in the Shadow War."

I'm pretty sure copies standing on shelves CAN NOT choose factions or play any round. Tretton is obviously talking about copies on consumers hand.

Braineater24485177d ago

BRO, that's for the week ending Jan 30th. It's the middle of February.
http://www.vgchartz.com/wee...

Better read it before you post something stupid again.

raztad5177d ago (Edited 5177d ago )

@^^^

Whatever Dude. It's pretty convenient they have outdated data just waiting for NPD numbers to update. Where is the "prediction" then? I can do the same.

Dev8 ing5177d ago

Something is wrong with his numbers. He says 1/2 million sold and 270 000 games played. That means out of every 2 people with the game only 1 has played a game in the shadow war. I took about half an hour to get enough points to start SABO. I would expect the number of games to be around 27 million about 50 per person or 3 games a day per person.

iceman065177d ago

Directives just puts you where you are "needed the most". Basically, wherever your faction is down the most...or there are the least players from your faction. That is where you go. So, it can't really count players until it places you in that particular match.

ChozenWoan5177d ago

1 round = 64 - 256 players
I will repeat this again so you don't miss it.

1 round = 64 - 256 players
1 round = 64 - 256 players
1 round = 64 - 256 players
1 round = 64 - 256 players
1 round = 64 - 256 players
1 round = 64 - 256 players
1 round = 64 - 256 players

Get it!
Got it!
Good!

Currently playing Drakes Fortune on crushing, next will be to replay Among Thieves, but I'm sure it still holds up today.

P_Bomb1444d ago (Edited 1444d ago )

Recently re-platinumed 1-3. Uncharted 2 aged better than I even expected. I enjoyed it more now than I did a decade ago. It’s more polished than 1, tighter than 3 and Yemen in 3 was gorgeous. Shambhala out-prettied Ubar though. 60fps w higher res’ made for a damn good rerun.

Abnor_Mal1443d ago

Question: When you say Uncharted2 aged better than expected, are you talking about the original PS3 game or the remastered collection on PS4. I ask because I think that a remastered version of the game would look and play better than the original.

I doubt that the original ran at 60 frames, how many years old is the remastered collection anyway.

I need to replay the original trilogy along with the collection, not a fan of the collection trophy of beating levels in a set time and don't think the originals required that for platinum.

P_Bomb1443d ago (Edited 1443d ago )

@abnor_mal
It’s true that the remasters have upped the resolution and given it 60fps, but the base game is the same. The art design and base textures/physics/ animations are the same yet still look contemporary. More-so than UC1 which isn’t as tight, or UC3 in some cases which I found a bit clunky in close quarters.

UC2 level design was a great evolution in bringing the verticality from the jungle into rural/urban settings while maintaining smooth animation transitions. Drake still moves better than the ginger in Star Wars Jedi. Outdoor areas are better lit.

UC2 also has more action and better pacing imo, which helps when replaying a game 10 years later. Kept me engaged.

You don’t need to time trial for platinum. They stuck the speedrun trophies in a seperate extended dlc category so have no fear.

MadLad1444d ago

I thought the originals were good, but not great. I understand that puts me in the minority here. That said, Uncharted 4 was freaking fantastic.

Profchaos1444d ago (Edited 1444d ago )

Yeah I understand the hate for 4 prior to playing it I was firmly against it and felt like 3 wrapped things up already but now after playing it I think it was the best in the franchise.

Now I look back at two and I feel like I'm playing an on the rails shooter everything is so tightly scripted including the infamous train scene you simply can't make a mistake

Rimeskeem1444d ago

I think Uncharted 2 is a lot like AC2. Both games took the idea and basically improved it in every single way.

Movefasta19931443d ago

Uc2, AC2,Halo2, Soul calibur 2, Killzone 2, Infamous 2 , Dishonored 2 and a few more. The only negative thing I have against uc2, and imo it annoyed me,are the blue apes, uncharted 1 handled the super natural far better.
