Mass Effect on PS3 ?

Does PC version of Mass Effect contains evidence of PS3 version?
Today my communicator brought me a message from my buddy containing this:

For the uninitiated, the above is a source of code from PC version of new Bioware creation.
Does this mean that the PS3 version will be released later? (Temporary exclusively for Xbox 360 and PC?)Do work on port for PS3 were discontinued?

OR are those only remains of the Multi-platform game engine (which is contradicted by a fairly accurate command names like "ParagonRenegadeMessage" - Paragon and Ranegade are the status of reputation for our characters.
I got this strange filling that the Shepard is closer to the PS3 than we all think. What is your opinion ?

Having worked a little with the Unreal Engine, I know there's default code related to the PS3 throughout. This could just be left over code.

That being said, we know Bioware has had PS3 developers for some time now that worked on Dragon Age, and given EA's tendencies to encourage multiplat games, I always assumed that it would only be a matter of time until Mass Effect made it's way onto the PS3. Probably the only reason it hasn't already is due to some old agreement that Bioware and Microsoft had prior to EA getting involved.

Meh people need to stop living in denial. As of now all recent sources and rumors point to a ps3 version sometime in the year. I'd say as of right now there is a 70% chance of ME2 ending up on the ps3.

The fact that Bioware clarified the ability to play ME2 without having played the first one also points to a multiplat (console) release.

Personally i wouldn't mind playing it to see what the fuss is about.

Microsoft's involvement in the first Mass Effect was strictly a publishing deal, after the EA acquisition of Bioware, EA obviously published the second game. EA could simply publish the game on the PS3 if they wanted to.

The 360 is the console of temporary (and/or Console) exclusives. Bioshock, GTA4 content, Ninja Gaiden....Mass Effect on PS3 is inevitable, really.

Yep PS3 Bioshock was discovered the same way with the PC code when they were still denying it. The sad thing about releasing games later on the PS3 is that sells suffer because alot of people have both consoles or PC already and will have already played the game. So they have to hope that there are alot of PS3 only gamers out there when the game launches months later. Sells could be at least 50% better on the PS3 if the game would of came out the same day as the 360 and PC version.

The facts are clear. Certain games do sell 3-5 million on 360 but overall, most games across many genres are sold MORE on the PS3. This is why all 3rd party developers, bar a few, earn more money on the PS3 than on the 360.

if Bioware was ever a first party to 360, I would really purchase a 360 for Mass Effect. But the potential of it happening on PS3 is there, look at all the other 3rd party games that were "exclusive" to the 360, Star Ocean IV: Last Hope, Tales of Vesperia (Don't care if it's not available anywhere in the NA/Europe, they still made a PS3 version of that game in one region and can still be playable region-free), Eternal Sonata, Bioshock (the one that 360 fanboys heavily denied back in 07), Lost Planet, and now even the GTAIV Episodes from Liberty.

Well, I would assume that to be the case. They would be using Blu Ray discs which can hold tons of data, so that would be logical. It would probably be a Mass Effect 1 & 2 deal on one disk for $60. That way PS3 owners don't feel like they got burnt having to wait so long.

It uses a UI built off of the PC one and have slightly better textures. I dealt with frame rate drop on the 360 version and I can sure as hell deal with it on the PS3. It would be cool if they released it as a Mass Effect bundle with the second game. For now I think the best possible answer to the 'Mass Effect on the PS3' question is...Maybe.

if that source it legit, then yes it confirms that sooner or later me2 will come to ps3, developers do tend to use meaning full names for variables the m_srParagonRenegadeMessagePS3 is a variable (because i can tell because i am a developer!!).
let me explain how variables work the m bit means it is a member of a class that has been created hehe, as for the sr prefix i have not seen that one before we use simple things like s for string, and f for float you get the idea.
if you want a full explanation on classes i will have to teach you all about OOP, which may take a while lol

I have this game already on 360. They only way I would get it on my PS3 is if they give me both games in the same package, or re release the first game as well.

You know something crossed my mind when playing through the first few hours of ME2. The game is less of an rpg and more of an action title that the first one. The tech and biotics classes have been nerfed, the leveling system has been nerfed, and the inventory system has been nerfed (which is a good thing imo). I'm not saying these changes have made the game worse, but more shooter friendly and something tells me that the fact that first game was only released on the 360 and PC has something to do with it. If the original was released on the PS3 as well as the other 2 major platforms then the guys at Bioware would've probably tried to make the second game appeal to a wider audience, but because most of the 360's major titles are shooters they wanted ME2 to get more 360 owners interested in the franchise.

ME2 is a really good game. It would be nice that everyone get to play it. But they should also release ME1 to PS3 as well, cause ME2 does have a lot of story connection to the first. I think it should go to PS3. Why not? All gamers deserve the choice to play such a highly rated game. And with 360 getting games like Tekken, FF, Ace Combat, MGS, etc,etc, it is only fair that PS3 claims some of MS's once thought exclusives. Ninja Gaiden and Bioshock were all good, but PS lost a lot more than those to multiplatformism.

It's not like this wasn't EXACTLY like it was in the SNES vs Megadrive/Genesis days anyway, as almost everything that wasn't made by inhouse developers for both companies always made it's way to both consoles. Instead of SNES getting Ghouls'n'Ghosts, it got Super Ghouls'n'Ghosts is a good comparison to use for Ninja Gaiden (360) and Ninja Gaiden Sigma (PS3).

This is how it's always been.......until PS1 smashed the competition so hard and sold over 100 million machines over it's 5-7 years reign, then PS2 followed suit, and because they had doubled hardware sales of the former highest selling console (SNES 60million), it gave them the power to negotiate exclusive game deals. It was business and very smart and cunning of Sony, and was no different to what Nintendo did in the past, and MS would do if they had total domination like PS1&2 did...

But because 360 couldn't belt the competition, even with an 18month head start, they have to actually PAY developers for exclusitivity. If they would have dominated like PS1 or 2 did, developers would flock to them with free exclusive games, as they would realize that the install base was so high, that the piddly amount of consoles the competition had out there was not worth bothering with and risk upsetting the King of the castle....for enough money would be made from the one consoles huge install base.

That being said...Bring it on...The rumors are too strong to be false. I think 3 or 6 month is what MS paid for.

Next stop, get that fat ass Gabe Newell to pump out a decent conversion of L4D on PS3.

I am enjoying the heck out of ME2. I can see me at least putting 40hrs into the game..thats value...I do think the game is over scored though. Graphics are meh..painted hair, fog, little to no DOF but the story is excellent..gameplay is mixed...the cover system is ok, but not great

while I think this is great news for gamers all around. Just like bioshock we'll see sites crashing from the ps3/360 fanboy fray about this game, with ps3 fanboys excited that it's coming to the ps3 and 360 fanboys loathing the news. I'll sit back and look at the ps3 fanboy comments and then go into their history to see how most of them have already played the game on PC. All the while seeing 360 fanboys say the game wasn't that great in the first place and Alan Wake and Halo Reach are the new hotness while I check their comment history and see how most touted mass effect 2's metacritic score and sales data, selling more than MAG, UC2, etc,. up until the news drops that it's coming to the ps3. :D

On the Mass Effect 2 case. I already have it for my PC, playing it with my PS3 Sixaxis controller and mouse hooked up... awesome setup. This code is pretty much proof that it is coming to PS3, the same thing happened with Bioshock, PS3 references were found on the PC code. And since Microsoft doesn't own the IP, well... put 2 and 2 together.

Like I said, when I saw the 360 box with no "Only on XBOX" label, I knew the jig was up. This code just confirms what we've all been speculating. No developer wastes time writing code for a platform that they will not produce... nobody wastes resources like that. That is why Bioware/EA will not comment, because Microsoft paid for that advertising during playoff halftime, just to keep the PS3 version hushed.

Why does MS continue to waste money on limited exclusiveness? My PC version plays just fine.

EA is the publisher and they love for their games to be multiplatform games so my guess is that it will come to the PS3. Also look at the exsclusive DLC for Grand theft Auto IV, that is now coming to the PS3 and games like Bioshock.

I have been subject to the fanboy insult for stating this, but Mass Effect was always considered a timed exclusive on the Xbox 360. Gametrailers Tv were among the 1st to state that ME2 was going to appear on the PS3...and I'm surprised that many people didn't know (Or refused) to acknowledge this. NO big deal to Xbox fans...PS3's closet of exclusives have been "raided" by Microsoft a hell of a lot more! 1. This game was meant for a PC architect which the 360 is very similar too
2. Sure it uses UE, But its a heavily modified UE, in order to make a PS3 port they would have to build a whole new engine for it, a waste of time and money for a 2 year old game that wont even break 1 million sales on the ps3

3. MS has an NDA with EA, they gave EA the publishing rights in exchange for exclusivity

Well, i just bit the bullet and bought it for my 360 which basically collects dust and will have to admit that it might possibly be one of the best games i have ever played and own! Its that good and im not much of a fan of the first Mass Effect after playing the second one. Its simply mindblowing. I really hope it comes to the PS3, so some of you can experience this game. Its even worth going out and buying a 360 for and believe me i really dont care for MS and all the faulty 360s ive been through. Sorry for caps, but to anyone who mentions that it's Unreal Engine code, it ISN'T. PARAGON/RENEGADE are specific to Mass Effect, which means that it was put there intentionally, not by the engine. There are configs related to the engine, but this one isn't, it's specific to the GAME. It's coming to PS3, question is when.

I have the PC version and can CONFIRM that this code is genuine. It was not played with. It's there, it's coming to PS3, boom.
