TheGo: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Review

Honestly, TheGo was trying to find major flaws in Uncharted 2 to prove that all the hype was not worth it, but ended up enjoying it instead. There aren't any major flaws that hinder an otherwise orgasmic gaming experience. The opening scene of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is not comparable to Indiana Jones' chasing boulder scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark, but it's still pretty damn awesome.

Awesome :)

Nice review btw :)
(still reading through it) lol

'I could go on and on talking about Uncharted 2 but I might let something slip and ruin it for the sad and pathetic people who haven't bought the game yet. No review could describe the different levels of emotion felt while playing Uncharted 2. The word "near-perfection" is the closest thing describing Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.'

ouch.. that hurt =/ sad...and .. pathetic..
well i guess I am after all I am playing demons Souls a game for masochists :)

near perfection. awesome

Mezt_up5306d ago

It actually just got bumped up another .5 points. It does put it up there in the elite games that come out on a certain system in a particular year. Near perfect, but not quite there.

WildArmed5306d ago (Edited 5306d ago )

lol *edits out the last part then*
Either way, its a great score. honestly weird to see the score jump that fast o_O

"is Uncharted 2 really a Megan-Fox-in-Transformers superb game or did it benefit from rather weak competition this year?"
hmm.. *looks back*
Killzone 2
inFamous
Forza 3
Demon Souls
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
Fallout 3 (GOTY edition.. but still)
LBP (GOTY edition again >.<)
Halo ODST (cant leave this one out for obvious reasons)
Brutal Legend (or so it looks like)
Call of duty: Modern Warfare 2 (thats pretty big competition right there)
could go on.. but got a brain freeze lol

So.. imma go with Megan Fox in a transformer game lol :)

Mezt_up5306d ago

Killzone 2 is worth a shout.

Forza 3 pulls up short imo, but im a Gran Tourismo fan..might just be bias

Demon's Souls is very good, but possibly not great. Havn't given it a big enough chance yet. It seems to only appeal to a certain type of gamer

Brutal Legend we are reviewing next up, will find out

Modern Warfare 2 is likely to be amazing as well

I don't think he was taking GOTY editions into account

Halo ODST = pile of crap

So yeah. Either way...maybe a bit too big a call as far as the weak competition goes....but if he thinks that this game stands out...then thats always a good sign.

WildArmed5306d ago (Edited 5306d ago )

Aye, got that picture down.
But I'd say every1 is in for quite a ride this fall.
Alot of great games.. with games like Assassin's Creed 2 and Bayonetta still waiting in line for reviews :)

oh and i agree with Halo ODST being... mediocre lol
Forza 3 got solid reviews so i'll give it that much. I'm not much of a racer though.
oh and please do give DS a try.
Its the best game i've played all year. (havnt try U2 yet ofc)
(oh.. and i kinda found inFAMOUS to be more fun then K2 but thats just me i guess)

oh.. and RE5 n SFIV def. deserves a shout out ^^

Mezt_up5306d ago

Assassins Creed 2 has a heap of potential. Just like the first one. However lets hope they have learnt their lesson. It just wasn't quite up to scratch. Just wasn't overly fun after the first 5 hrs. Expecting big things from Bayonetta.
I thought inFamous was just that...a fun game...but there was too much that missed the mark to make it a truly good game. I look forward to a possible sequel or another game by sucker punch as they showed a fair bit of talent

Which was a small random Gamestop on ventura out here in Tarzana, CA (Los Angelesish area). I'd say only about 15-20 people were there, nothing huge at all. But there was one specific person there who kinda made this launch a little different from all the rest in the US.

F'ing Christophe Balestra, Co-President of Naughty Dog

He was kind enough to sign my copy and grab a quick photo with me. This should give you a strong idea of how cool Naughty Dog is. I still can't believe they showed up to a random little gamestop on a midnight launch!

There was also another lead designer there but I forget his name :\ Both of them were cool as hell though. That's got to be thee most random and coolest midnight launch I've ever been to haha.

ThanatosDMC5306d ago (Edited 5306d ago )

Wow, that's weird to play a game and look for flaws first... oh well, at least he forgot about his initial intent and just enjoyed the game.

Getting the game today once im done with my classes and exam at 4pm. Yup, buying it at Fry's for $49.99. I really hope they still have copies left!

Currently playing Drakes Fortune on crushing, next will be to replay Among Thieves, but I'm sure it still holds up today.

P_Bomb1451d ago (Edited 1451d ago )

Recently re-platinumed 1-3. Uncharted 2 aged better than I even expected. I enjoyed it more now than I did a decade ago. It’s more polished than 1, tighter than 3 and Yemen in 3 was gorgeous. Shambhala out-prettied Ubar though. 60fps w higher res’ made for a damn good rerun.

Abnor_Mal1451d ago

Question: When you say Uncharted2 aged better than expected, are you talking about the original PS3 game or the remastered collection on PS4. I ask because I think that a remastered version of the game would look and play better than the original.

I doubt that the original ran at 60 frames, how many years old is the remastered collection anyway.

I need to replay the original trilogy along with the collection, not a fan of the collection trophy of beating levels in a set time and don't think the originals required that for platinum.

P_Bomb1450d ago (Edited 1450d ago )

@abnor_mal
It’s true that the remasters have upped the resolution and given it 60fps, but the base game is the same. The art design and base textures/physics/ animations are the same yet still look contemporary. More-so than UC1 which isn’t as tight, or UC3 in some cases which I found a bit clunky in close quarters.

UC2 level design was a great evolution in bringing the verticality from the jungle into rural/urban settings while maintaining smooth animation transitions. Drake still moves better than the ginger in Star Wars Jedi. Outdoor areas are better lit.

UC2 also has more action and better pacing imo, which helps when replaying a game 10 years later. Kept me engaged.

You don’t need to time trial for platinum. They stuck the speedrun trophies in a seperate extended dlc category so have no fear.

MadLad1452d ago

I thought the originals were good, but not great. I understand that puts me in the minority here. That said, Uncharted 4 was freaking fantastic.

Profchaos1451d ago (Edited 1451d ago )

Yeah I understand the hate for 4 prior to playing it I was firmly against it and felt like 3 wrapped things up already but now after playing it I think it was the best in the franchise.

Now I look back at two and I feel like I'm playing an on the rails shooter everything is so tightly scripted including the infamous train scene you simply can't make a mistake

Rimeskeem1451d ago

I think Uncharted 2 is a lot like AC2. Both games took the idea and basically improved it in every single way.

Movefasta19931451d ago

Uc2, AC2,Halo2, Soul calibur 2, Killzone 2, Infamous 2 , Dishonored 2 and a few more. The only negative thing I have against uc2, and imo it annoyed me,are the blue apes, uncharted 1 handled the super natural far better.
