Yakuza 3 is Coming to the West

Just a few days ago Sega rep Aaron Webber commented that the possibility of Yakuza 3 coming to the U.S. still exists and that it's a subject discussed quite often at Sega.

Today 1UP can do one better: they've learned that the PS3 exclusive is indeed coming west. According to sources close to the project, Yakuza 3 is currently being localized for release in the U.S. and European markets.

LordMarius5336d ago

I knew this will happen, one more exclusive for 2010

HOOK 'EM HORNS

Parapraxis5336d ago

Absolutely awesome!
Glad they recognized the demand in the west for this game.
I'll do my part by picking it up when it drops.

deadreckoning6665336d ago (Edited 5336d ago )

YES YES YES, I tried downloading the demo from the PSN Store, but it wouldnt finish installing.

Delta5336d ago (Edited 5336d ago )

Sweet i love it. (PS3 is only does everything) :)

Cwalat5336d ago

FINALLY!

I was getting worried there for a while :P

FlatulentGhost5336d ago (Edited 5336d ago )

"I knew this will happen"

I didn't. It sounded to me like something they weren't going to do until much later.

Hopefully original Japanese voice + English subs will be an option.

Home space, stuff for you avatars
Re-release of the original two games in a single pack like the MGS Essentials Pack.
Lots of hype on the PS Blog
And of course a localized version of the demo

Toenado5336d ago

These Japanese games have a western audience, and the powers that be are finally taking notice. Good times ahead.

Orange5336d ago

F*** ya! my austin brother. I'm buying.

Hook em' from San Francisco. Go horns.

morganfell5336d ago

I still run Yakuza 2. That game has so much depth - the fighting system alone breaks every bone in Niko's body.

Now if we can get a localized or even subtitled version of Ryuu ga Gotoku Kenzan! we'll have it made.

RememberThe3575336d ago

Oh people, please buy this game!

wxer5336d ago

one of the best beat em up game of all times
this games just ownes all the other beat em up games
and thats a pure fact

ABizzel15336d ago

OMG He knows everything. I have been praying for this game to get a US release. In case you don't know Yakuza is Japan's GTA, but a brawler instead of a third person shooter. It's like Streets of Rage meets GTA.

cyberwaffles5336d ago

they have a demo for this on the japanese store?!?!

DaTruth5336d ago

Will it never end? The onslaught on my wallet and time! Sony, some of us have children we have to spend time with. One quality exclusive after another, will it never end? It would be heinous if it wasn't so awesome!

I wouldn't stop them if I could!

Timday55336d ago

It has no chance to be as good as Wii sports or even wii play. Those two games have sold so many more copies than any game this generation, so they are obviously the best. It figures morgandork would love this game. He probably can;t even play wii play or wii sports because of his lack of skill. Sales=best games, and so wii sports, and wii play are the best by far. How can you guys not see this. The ps3 has nothign but ps2 games with a new paint job. The only new next generation game system is the wii, better games, more immersive control. Get with it people, ps3 is so last gen its not even funny and don't get me started on 360 broken machine. Get a wii and play the best games. yakuza 3 will be no different than yakuza 2 except slightly better graphics and a short terrible story line.

iHEARTboobs5336d ago

You forgot to add the /sarcasm at the end of your post.

Deathmammoth5336d ago

@Christopher_Walken
I LOVE Clone High! That show is SO KICKASS!! thanks for posting that and making me want to watch the show again on DVD :P

SaiyanFury5336d ago (Edited 5336d ago )

I wonder if Timday5 is really Seferoth in disguise, he even has the same "Sony fanboy" avatar and the same amount of bubbles. Seferoth has a long reputation here of devaluing Sony in favour of Nintendo. Wii sports sold more than Yakuza 3? Really? Considering that Wii Sports is included with every Wii sold, I wouldn't count that as game sales. As far as game sales go, Yakuza 3 sold a tonne of PS3s in Japan as well as lots of games themselves. He says the story in Yakuza 3 sucks. How does he know that? I ask you directly, Timday, have you ever played through a Yakuza game? The games are penned by an actual award-winning crime novelist by the name of Hase Seishuu. The Yakuza games are a triumph of Japanese storytelling. I've played through both Yakuza games, and it is officially one of my fave series'. Then again, I make the charge that you're actually Seferoth in disguise just to badmouth another breakout PS3 title. But then again, I'm a Sony fanboy. Just ignore my logical statements and rant about how I argue about game sales, and not about the actual games themselves. Oh yes, don't let me forget, I'll be getting this one, also on day one.

gaffyh5335d ago

Guys remember that drought of games when the PS3 was released? I only had Resistance 1 for like 6 months, and it was the only thing I played.

Well it was totally worth the wait...

zeeshan5335d ago

Ok Sony is listening to us, Sega is also listening to us. Now, we need to make sure we don't f**k this by not buying this game. All the PS3 gamers who have been asking to localize this game for the western market need to MAKE SURE they buy this game so our voices are heard even more in the future.

I am sooooooo gona get this game!

Timday55335d ago

If any of you have actually played wii sports you would realize it has the most imersive gameplay ever. Not to mention replay value. Yakkuza? who wants to play that, unless you live in Japan. Hate on the wii all you want, but you can't deny, wii sports and wii play are so much better than any ps3 game its not even funny. If you don't have a wii get one, sell your ps3 if you have to. I am sick of ps3 fanboys acting like good graphics make a great game, its funny how so many lists, list old games as the top games ever. Doom, Quake, SMB, tons and tons of old 16 bit and 8 bit games would beat out anything the ps3 has to offer. Good graphics don't make a game, ie kz2, mgs4, those two games were terrible. Plain and simple, they can't compare to wii sports or wii play. So just watch your pretty graphics, and have your terrible controls and be happy with that, don't hate on me for loving wii play and wii sports.

Harry1905336d ago

actually buy the game now that it is finally coming around those parts. I am a RGG hardcore fanboy and I am very attached to this franchise. It would just sadden me if it ends up being a game N4G talks about a lot but does not play.

I don't generally insult people like this.

Redempteur5336d ago

SEGA just tell me when you release it so i can plan how to spent my money

YES YES YES This one will be bought DAY ONE

mastiffchild5335d ago

Harrylla, you didn't need to go getting all angry. Thing is I don't soubt that those of us posting here will buy and would've bought the game anyway but sal, again, be poor for a Yaliza game in the west for the same old reasons. There will be no ads, it's coming very late and I can't see them stocking it very well either-they never have before yet always seem to make out the games have flopped when Sega themselves gaven't given them a real chance.

We all seem to forget that we on N4G could ALL buy a game and still it wouldn't be a success sales wise-the less avid, non press reading gamers need to have games pushed at them for massive sales to be possible. This isn't Halo and won't get the push those games get now will it?

Peter North5336d ago

Flopbots, you do know that Yakuza 3 is a PlayStation 3 exclusive, right.

Peter North5336d ago

Flopbots, you do know that the only way to play Yakuza 3 is to buy a Ps3, right.

Megaton5336d ago

Awesome. I've never played one before, but I did download the demo of this from the Japanese PSN store, thought it was pretty good.

Best villains in video games

GF365: "For a story to be compelling and engaging, a great villain is mandatory in most cases – be it a novel, movie, or video game. Of course, there’s a multitude of wonderful, brilliantly written villains in video games. Do keep in mind that this is our opinion. So, here’s our list of the best villains in video games, ranked in no particular order. We’re limiting our list to games since 2005."

I already own all these digital+physical. So good to see more people will get to enjoy them.

Wonder why Fist of North Star isnt being added

italiangamer642d ago

Because it's not a Yakuza game, simple as that.

CrimsonWing69642d ago

Yep, licensing fees and whatnot.

RpgSama642d ago

So excited about the next Yakuza Like a Dragon I enjoyed that game much more than I thought K would have, went and got the platinum and everything.

IMissJimRyan642d ago

Yeah. I played them on GamePass, but it's good to others play those games.

Mobis-New-Nest642d ago

I'm still wondering why Horizon Forbidden West Delux Edition hasn't been added yet. Still hopeful it might get added in September 2022. Come Sony, do the smart business move and add all your first party games Day 1 on PlayStation Plus Premium.

mkis007642d ago (Edited 642d ago )

How is that smart? you just admitted to want to spend $18 for one month whenever a game comes out rather than $70 per game? Their sales are perfectly fine so low sales isn't a valid reason. Relying on subscription numbers is a losing game. You can't guarantee enough people will sub. 20 million subs doesn't beat 10 million copies sold at $30. (my average of the cost of a game over 3 years) For one game you make 300 million vs for the sub plan at 20 million paying 10 dollars a month (200 million) you have to pay out to all those developers before you can even count your money.

No chance it comes to plus plus this year. It will come when sales die down.

SeTTriP642d ago

This is a dumb idea for a franchise thats almost certain to hit 10mil lifetime.they would lose 10's if not a hundred million dollars.

Two years from now when the horizons, ghost and gow's do come to the service xbox might be in trouble.they have nothing to compete with this line even years down the line.

Its called strategy.

SeTTriP642d ago

I just brought judgement the game is great don't know how I missed it so now I'm planning on buying all the yakuza games so this is great for me.

It's early days but this new service is looking better and better. The full Yakuza series! And with the monthly games this month too. Fantastic month

Muigi642d ago

Never played any of them, good excuse now to try these out.

SegaSaturn669642d ago

That was the only Yakuza game I was missing. Might be the best month of all time for me.

I just could not get into like a dragon I love Yakuza series but when they went with turn based combat it just was not for me. I hope future entries go back to its original roots or at least every now and then have a game where is real Time brawler combat

We do have judgement so at least there are other similar games being made by same developers

Yi-Long993d ago

I liked most of the Yakuza games I’ve played, and I (mostly) did enjoy the new direction they took with ‘Like a Dragon’ and its new fighting system. It was a welcome change of pace. Its JRPG turn-based fighting system wasn’t perfect, but it was a good first attempt on which they can expand and build. Didn’t like the damage-sponge boss-fights though, which felt more like a chore instead of tactically taking out your opponent.

Deathdeliverer994d ago

I’m sorry but no way is like a dragon better than Yakuza 0, 4,5, or 6. It’s different with a lighter hearted tone a lot of times. Plenty of slapstick and jokes. It literally feels like a DLC compared to the main Yakuza games. Unless you simply don’t like action games maybe… but going through the underground arenas, fighting the mini bosses randomly on the streets on different games for money or exp (like the guy in the gold suit for example). Not to mention the mini games, which Like a dragon has some too, but not as good as most other Yakuzas. Maybe it’s because I’ve been playing Yakuza from the beginning. It’s like the metal gear rpg/card collector that was on PSP or Vita. It was a cool game and a lot of fun, but it wasn’t a METAL GEAR. It was fun for what it was. I don’t believe this person actually played through all the Yakuzas. Probably gamepassed like a dragon and dabbled in the others to get an idea.

neutralgamer1992994d ago

Yakuza 4 is such an underrated game and zero is what made the series have legit string foot outside of Japan

Like a dragon in my opinion isn't on the same category quality wise. It's story and characters aren't as interesting

isarai993d ago

Same, been there since the first on PS2, but you're gonna get a lot of disagrees. Many people defending Yakuza 7 weren't fans of the previous games, or only dabbled, and they seem to outweigh diehard fans like you and me. So it's pretty much like trying to shout over a crowd. This is what the Yakuza series is from now on, Judgement is our compromise, but it seems even that is in the air lately given some behind the scenes conflict apparently.

Darkwatchman993d ago

I literally started with 0 in and Kiwami in 2017, then played Kiwami 2 when it dropped. And had 6 sitting and waiting on my shelf until after the collection of 3-5 dropped. Then I ran through 3-6 in one massive continuous marathon. I’m sorry that i think Like a Dragon is one of the best ones and that having the same combat for 8000 games got repetitive and it was a breath of fresh air to get an actual change?

I welcome franchises taking risks and like a dragon was a massive risk that paid off. Like the article states, it fits the Yakuza brand of humor extremely well with regard to enemy types and their attacks/skills. Also, it’s incredibly reductive to call this a “DLC”. How can it just be a DLC when it’s an entirely different genre as opposed to more of the same. If you want to make the “it’s just a DLC” argument, that would apply more to Judgment, which is just more of the traditional Yakuza gameplay.

You maybe just don’t like turn-based gameplay, which is fine. I like all kinds of games. I’m sorry that my view of game genres isn’t so narrow?

Sayai jin994d ago

There are a few I haven't played so I am replaying and playing through them now on GP.

MadLad994d ago

Same.
Gamepass really let me get into the series.

Sayai jin993d ago

Same here. I started some of the games in the series when we lived in Japan, but was super busy so I never finished. When I saw the series land on GP., I started from thr first and working my way through them.

CDbiggen993d ago

I did like Like a Dragon, it kept the feel of the games, but I got bored of the combat about halfway in. It was the easiest RPG I've ever played.
If I remember correctly - Eri, lower defence move for all. Ichiban - Mega bat. Every fight over in seconds.

andy85993d ago

True Final Millennium Tower for the Platinun was certainly tricky

Imalwaysright993d ago

I'm currently playing Yakuza 0 and so far it's the best game I played this year.

Urrakia34993d ago

I started it about a month ago and was immediately impressed by the cutscenes, characters, and the story got me hooked quite literally from the beginning. Been playing it on and off lately but definitely one of the best games I've played in a while. It's one of those that make me feel dumb for not jumping into the series sooner, pleasantly surprised.
