I would have to say no! Until I see something on the same level as GEOW and an online service that rivals Live I'm not sold even with the promise of Home! There is just nothing about PS3 that screams 600 to me and honestly based on what I've seen I wouldn't pay anymore then 250 for it!

i was going to agree with everything you have said. but i deff think the PS3 is worth more then £250. i think about £300 - £350 then i would deff look into buying one =) (as long as there are good games, otherwise it would be the most expensive multimedia player i have ever brought lol (aka not having games to play)

As you can see I did not contribute this story, I tipped it as any member can do without being a contributer. I was unsure whether it was news, so I posted it as a tip 2 days...it was forwarded to me by threespeech, but still I couldn't tell whether it was worth posting. So I put it aside for someone else to mull over. I have 18 crank, so if I wanted to I could easily contribute it.

How did I pass my contributer? I passed it well, and I hope you enjoy my contributions to the site...all 18 I post a day. All your Halo3, Assassins Creed, tech news, Bioshock news...and everything else you are welcome to observe from my submissions.

As a member of this site you have the power to report stories. And note this power does not lose effect after an article has made it to the front page; Since newsbot does often go around looking at new reports and measuring whether an article should be taking off the site, if it is not relevant. Thus if one feels this is not relevant for the site then one should report it...but yet there have been zero reports for this story. There were in fact, in the pending area...5 or so reports asking the contributer to edit his post so it would be news worthy, once this was done, it was then approved by another 5 members, whose names are in order of approval xbox360rocks (a good chap), nousemerc (a professional), robotz-rule (a kind hearted member who likes his playstation), DrWan (an infrequent member who appears to be positive in his remarks)...and then I myself after viewing 4 members approve of this story..did approve of it myself. Thus it made its way to the front page.

Why did it do so? I believe because, although it is a forum post, it is a question "Does it live upto your expectations?"...asking members if it in fact does, for those who own the console.

So news worthy? The site appears to believe so, even though I was unsure.

I feel that often console bashing falls to something even more wrong with human beings on the internet - to interact with other human beings by insulting them because of their presence in words. Something which appears both immature, but also an act of empowerment to make up for something that may be lacking elsewhere in that persons real life. Perhaps it makes them feel better about themselves to interact so strongly with someone else, and feel that they know them...when in fact all they know are their words...and often all they know is their own interpretation of those words...for there is no tone of voice over the internet.

Having an opinion over something to do with gaming and expressing it on this site is one thing, expressing disgust to another member is quite another. If you would like to respond to me, please pm me.

People keep saying there is no games when there are plenty of good games to choose from, but really how many games do you expect to play at one time. OBLIVION is a game that takes 100+ hours to beat. The thiers Resistance, FEAR, Motorstorm, Enchanted Arms, Spiderman 3, GoW 2, Call of Duty 3, Calling all Cars, Genji, Sports games, The God Father, Ninja Gaiden demo(went gold coming in a few weeks) Rainbow Six Vegas will be here in a few weeks. Oblivion a game which i beat and Mastered and pretty much downloaded all contect for on the 360...so no, Resistance? beat it and i dont like the game, Fear a game which sux on the ps3 compared to the pc and 360 versions.
Motorstorm theres nothing special about this game, its a racing game, and thats bout it, I personally feel all the destructiveness was a mistake specially when I jump off a ramp and land wrong and my motorcycle or car blows up instantly just cause i hit the flat ground sometimes.

GoW 2? thats a ps2 game...most of the games you've named are either on the 360, or have been on it before the ps3 versions and are better on the 360, and dont even include genji the first game sucked, and the 2nd game sucked too and was a source of so much strife for sony....So basically you've proven our point.
The ps3 just really doesn't have that many engaging or worthwhile or any games out right now, all the games it does have aren't that good, got bad scores, or we're out for the 360 before and or better on the 360.

Hold on there, I would agree those games are good, but compare the games you listed to the 360's and half those games are on 360, with better online support. People want exclusives, that's what they mean by good games. You can't justify the greatness of a system if another system has the same selection of games to go around, and the system cost less, and runs just as good and sometimes better. Hell I might as well pour syrup on sh%* and call it pancakes. To say I'm happy with The PS3 so far.

It may or may not be the better of the two next gen consoles, i leave that to your conscience, but in terms of the hype and expectations of the pre launch masses, then its a dismal failure on most counts.Blows the competition away? No! 4D software? No! etc etc. It was generally expected by most observers and loyal fans that nothing would compare, well that was and is false. I don't have any particular likes or dislikes regarding PS3, other than the expense of buying one,but the reality is so far, the PS3 is a let down.

attributing 4d to a graphic related thing... I think it has more to do with interactivity like in Little Big Planet. We're not going to be passively playing these games any more, we're going to be creating from within the game space, hense you step into another dimension. The fourth dimention. Or sixaxis gives much more immersion, like it or not, I think its gonna be bad ass when I can cruise in a vehicle, turn with the joysticks and look around with the sixaxis to blast people without the jerky changing points of view. Thing GTA and using the L and R buttons to look around. Sony is thinking on a different level, MS thinks next gen is nothing but a graphic overhaul... thats why you guys get great looking games with the same tired gameplay. Thats the real reason Gears stands out, it brought innovated gameplay on top of having incredible graphics. 360 has a lot of games that look really freaking good but I dont know if they're really bringing that much to the table in terms of originality or innovation... I dunno, I could be wrong, Fable 2 should be good, and anyone who disses Mass Effect is just being stupid. I am honestly hopeful for Halo cause I've been watching lots of dev interviews and they're trying to make something really cool, but in the end, its just gonna feel like halo with next gen graphics right? I hope they prove me wrong... On the other hand, Heavenly Sword has what has to be the most exciting looking combat in the history of games, the crazy joint locks and bone breakers, taking on 1000's of enemies at a time?! Uncharted is delivering the most amazing animation I've seen in 20 years of playing games. Lair is another one that seems to be pushing the envelope and I think we're all waiting to see what Killzone is really about. Little Big Planet and Home are the first examples of Sony really pushing the envelope and allowing us to step into the game space for the first time. They're even working out ways for us to make money!! You guys need to think outside of the box a little more and you'll find the 4D that sony is talking about. Then you can stop talking about how they never live up to the hype.

While I can go to Costco and pick one up after work. So you know the answer to that question. For me it has not lived up to the hype. Still has potential, and I'm afraid it's potential might come to late, where they really make a difference of +$200.

I know when I purchase a ps3 for one thing one it will be a lot better, for now FF12 for Ps2 keeps me busy, Wii( well I'm still waiting for some more games, and the Xbox 360 has plenty title to carry me for second half of the year. We all know what they are.

So if I felt like PS3 has lived up to the hype, I would have had one by now and therefore been able to judge whether it met those expectations.

The PS3 is great and I'm having tons of fun with mine, but with that said, expectations = those CG movies of potential "gameplay" footage they showed at E3 a while back. Everyone expected that at launch, and we won't be seeing anything close to that until Ratchet and Clank. Fooling your own customers is a sure way to get backlash, if it wasn't for those CG renders, I think PS3 would have lived up to EVERYONE's expectations.

I have a PS3 and one of my biggest issues is - the games that are out and the games that will be out in the near future have already been released on the 360! Where are the games for PS3?? We saw trailers 2 years ago for for MGS and we won't even see it until 2008 and the same thing goes for FF XIII. I haven't purchased a game for my PS3 since Motor Storm. I'm just a little frustrated!!

1st - knowing i was paying for a $600, and educating myself about what releases would be coming and when. I already knew there wasn't a plethora of titles early on. only casual gamers and idiots dont shop smart.

dont forget games are still coming..

2nd - the games that are available have met or surpassed expectation, RFOM is wonderful. Ive ended it on Normal- hard and superhuman...yes played through it 3 times.. ive only played halo1 more (fps wise of course) - oblivion is keeping my interest lately.. its always been a great game. with the small improvements and faster load times im having much fun. Motorstorm is draw dropping and fun. only game i own that i don't play is FNR3.

in the same breath my psn games - flow - tekken5 - blast factor - Calling all cars - crash bandicoot - wipeout - MKII are gems i didn't see coming.

3rd - more gems i didnt see coming. Home - F@H - LBP and sony promising more surprises.

4th - im now in the HD era or gaming and movies, which has prompted me to buy a 42" HD tv, and start upgrading my sound system. and i must say...I cant believe i was playing or watching tv like a caveman..lol

Haven't switched on my Wii since the day I bought a PS3-Bored with it.

Xbox 360 - sold it, was very frustrating - to unreliable heating problems and HD image quality was below what I'm used to - image too soft and colours are dull thru component compared to HDMI.
Had a nice controller though.

I got both and i've not seen a problem with component hd signals compared to the ps3's hdmi.

Component has to compress RGB signal and is analog also can gets affected by RF - images always look softer, HDMI is uncompressed and is digital, very clean - noise free sharp image, with great blacks a great colour saturation.

It seems like most of you don't even own one. Having owned mine since launch i can say that it has met my expectations to where it should be in its life cycle. I didn't pay six hundred dollars expecting it to do everything and anything out the box. I know its futureproof and i know its an investment and i'm very happy with it. The fact that i know it'll only get better and better and that more games will come out makes me even happier. I suggest most people wait till there are more things out that justifies its price or till a price drop happens but i had the money and i bought it and i have no negative feelings at all. Having a 65in 1080p does help also its great to play games and watch Blu-ray on. I own a 360 and a Wii and those are great to by the way.

Plus everything about it oozes quality. Its a sexy, black, shiney machine. The console version of the Knightrider car.

I still dont understand all this negative stuff about PS3. Every console has to start somewhere. Aside from the price I dont see a problem with it. the success of the PS3 will certainly not be defined within the first 6 months. it may even take 2 - 3 years before anyone knows. this thing was built for the long haul and not rushed to market with poor reliability and last gen specs.

Yes, it's everything I expected. Well worth the 600. I get to watch HD movies, play online for free. There may not be many games out right now, but I still have to beat the 3 that I own. I love the controller. There are lots of other things I love about it. What's crazy though, is that there is a lot more coming.

well yes actually it is.. but then again i didnt spend 600 bucks, i had a warranty on my ps2, and got this little baby for 450. It does exactly what i bout it for. I did have to by an external 500 gb hard drive, but still. Have around 50 movies ripped and downloaded, each around 3 gigs, about 20 gigs worth of music, and all the digital albums that my computer had. I had all this stuff, well not all of it, but a lot of it in my pc that was cluttering up my hard drive, moved it to my entertainment center ps3, and everything is running smoothly. We all know that sony is going to roll our the kick ass games soon enough, the games that have come out have been tiding me over until gtaIV, the only game im really looking forward to. Im older, i have a job, i don't have all day to be playing games. My money is important to me, and I choose to spend it wisely. When i buy something, i don't want to worry about leaving in on for hours, let alone closing my eyes when i turn it on. M$ has shown it does not make a quality console, and i don't want to be a part of that. Also first person shooters are to be played on a PC, not a console. Well anyways, yeah im very very satisfied with my ps3, home entertainment center, with the best features on the way. Strong reliable product.. money well spent.

For me in my opinion there isn't a better console on the market with longevity and promise of more to come and fun to boot... Notice I said MY opinion... NOT URS or anyone elses... s my opinion... the games are there and readily availible. everything thats on the 360 with the exceptions of exclusives is there, and are met and sometimes surpassed in quality. alas Oblivion and Fight Night Round 3. Games are still on the horizon and though it's not selling quite the way son would have liked it to sell initially. it's still doing great for a six hundred dollar hardware... Devs are starting to make it scream. Team Ninja, Insomniac, and square... Konami, and Polyphony. and ofcourse sony them self. it's a machine of sleek beauty and luxerious quality. Nothing grotesque. shiny black Ipod finish with, everything that screams presently supported and future proof.

personally i'm glad i own one. just as much as those people who own their 360. i invest in what i feel is worth it and it's definately doing it.

Graphics are on par with 360 and in certain games aboves.. lair and motorstorm.... NGS and Heavenly sword Screams gears of wars graphic killers... and R&C clank takes the cake... of course this is my opinion.

every game i've played on the 360s Live (meaning downloadable bugdet titles.. cant hold a candle to the likes of tekken:DR and Calling all cars. with Home coming out this fall, Sony seems poised to show show that they can do the online thing too. even though i'll agree that this is one aspect MS has over them in terms of content. the Pay to play on premium just aint for me... i dont think that after i pay 60 bucks for a game i should then subscribe for 30-50+ a year to play with friends when i can do it for free. resistance, Calling all Cars and Motorstorm shows just what i mean.

now i'm Not bashing the 360, because i have friends who own it..(and are currently looking to upgrade because of the spring update failures that unfortunately plagued there favorite console of choice. but as of right now there isn't anything besides Gears and Lost planet and Graw2 on the console. and though Forza2 is good i just dont see it holding a candle to GT5. so there aint a need for me to scream OMG a 360... if there is a game i'll play on it that i want which are Blue dragon and Lost odyssey i'll probably rent them and play them on my friend 360. because as of right now... eternal sonata is coming to ps3. and i'll be playing FFXIII and Versus XIII, and white Knight story.

I'll say that this is the reason why i purchased and invested and is currently enjoying my PS3 and it's fr the same reason why those fellow 360 games are enjoying there 360 on their. simply because one console just doesn't offer what they are looking for.. and on that note i'll end.

ps: it's sure as hell worth it. all 600+tax of it.

See I did not buy my PS3 just for what it offers me today, which is a couple great games and the ability to watch Blu-ray movies, but for what it will offer in the years ahead.

I see Sony delivering on all fronts. Lets see.....

I think it lived up to as much expectation as I had when I first purchased my 360.

Since not one system has come out with a lot of games to play at launch I knew the PS3 would probably be no different but the bluray player is the added bonus that makes my tv sing. The surprise is actually the amount of time I spend on it playing games.

When my buddies and I get off Halo 2 I find myself playing on the PS3. I didn't expect to get into Blastfactor, Super Rub Dub, Calling All Cars, and Sudoku on my PS3. I assumed I'd be watching a lot of bluray on it until June but I spend quite a bit of the little bit of free time I have playing the PS3.

If you have an HDTV and the cash, having a PS3 right now is a good look but if you are saving or have a StdTV then there is no rush.

i have to agree with Anego Montoya Partly. No console really matched up to my expectations, though when i got my 360, oblivion was out ,and well you know, it was awesome. Aside from that well most consoles i bought met my expectations fairly well, just not totally.

Al i know is with the PS3Wii60 combination, I'm gonna have me some fun. :)

By then, all the big boys for all consoles will be out, at least most of them.

Actualy I do know what I'm talking about - how do you know what I do for a living / what my background is?

My opinions based on my experience in the audio / video industry.

Regardless how good the Xbox 360 or PS3 are at creating visuals, they are only as good as what your eyes will see being shown on the screen - and yes I've made many comparisons in regards to this topic, I bet that's one of the reasons Xbox 360 has moved in that direction as well, pity they went with V.1.2 instaed of the better V.1.3

RFOM and motorstorm are wicked games that will carry u to this fall. for myself its well worth the money i spent.

just like every launch i knew the games wouldnt be avail rite off the bat so i bought it for the bluray player. motorstorm and RFOM are wicked a$$ games that push the envolope for games that were rushed! can wait to see part2 of these games now that they can take their time to make.

at the end of the year the PS3 will be in full motion and will dominate everything - halo3 wont make people buy a 360 because it looks and plays like halo2 - killzone2 in the other hand will own everything - then we have FF7(if true which i know they will make it) will put the nail in xbox360 coffin...

It's awesome. Great backwards compatibility, a lot more HDD space than just 13 GB, WiFi out of the box and easy to configure, great graphics, great interface, nice online store, great media hub. I look forward to all its products and services.

my expectations were for the console to have a weak first 6 months (like ALL consoles do), then pick up steam around month 7, when developers start to release their high quality games for the holiday season.

though i admit that i've been pleasantly surprised with the PS3 games i have now. Resistance is a lot of fun, as is Motorstorm, VF5, and Oblivion.

there are too many more coming out in the next month and beyond to list, so i'm good.

only a fool would expect the moon when a console launches, or were 360 and Wii fans playing Halo 3, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Smash Bros. Brawl, and Mario Galaxy the day their system launched? no? interesting...

people expect too much from the PS3, and they forget that the PS2 ALSO had massive hype, and failed to live up to that hype, until the console was about 6 months old, when titles like Onimusha and Devil May Cry hit, then it was cemented when MGS2 and GTA3 came out, about 12 months after the PS2 launched.

looking at the future lineup of the PS3, the same is going to happen. there's some good stuff coming, but young gamers are too impatient to wait for it (i remember it was brutal when i was 20 years old, waiting for the PS2 to get some good games. i know better now).

remember, the word of the day is "Patience." 360 fans had a nice long wait until Oblivion hit (the first real must have game for the 360), then it was another long wait until Dead Rising came out (a mediocre title, but still fun), then it wasn't until a YEAR before Gears of War hit. but PS3 haters seem to forget that.

The psn store is a winner already with games like Flow, Blast Factor, and Calling all Cars. Multiplayer is smooth and easy to get into a match. Game selection is just right for it being brand new and costly, why do you need 50 games for it right away? With me also having a PSP is a nice addition as well for they can hook up and download old games on it along with watching whatever I have on my PS3 on my PSP. Heck it can even serve as a router! So once again PS3 has lived up to the hype I gave it and then some. Only can get better right?
