10 Reasons Why the PS3 Slim Will Save Sony

Sony's has its work cut out, to be sure, but the PS3 Slim knocks the legs out from under the "boutique pricing" caveat. In fact I think the Slim put Sony back in the game with bells on, whether Microsoft pulls the trigger on a 360 Elite price drop (from $400 to $300) or not.

Here's why.

I think this gives Sony great momentum going into the holiday season and into 2010. They'll get a significant boost from this. However, I also think Microsoft isn't going anywhere and is planning some "Halo-like" marketing for Natal in an effort to steal the wow and cool factor that Nintendo had for a while with the Wii. Honestly, I think all three companies are in good shape and if you have the money, you should probably own all three consoles as they all offer something unique that the others don't have. This is shaping out to be a pretty good generation for gamers. Competition is good in the long run.

Good Article. The PS3 will get so much more support now and a larger community! I also appreciated the guys honesty when he said that the PS3 won't catch up on M$'s 9 million lead in North America. I keep stressing that to people, but for some reason they actually think the price drop will actually allow PS3 to overtake the 360. But as a gamer, as long as Sony keeps improving their console and delivering AAA exclusives, ill be happy for a LONG time!

Reality is Sony "NEVER NEEDED SAVING".
These articles, regardless of which console manufacturer is named, is nothing but attention seeking flamebait regardless of the quality, or lack there, of points being made.

Sony, MS and Nintendo don't need saving (at least not in this generation). What does need saving is the gaming media because it is now nothing but tabloid journalism trying to out do one another with sensationalist headlines.

It's sad that people respond to these articles at all and this is why journalism is in the toilet. People (I say people and not gamers because "real gamers" only care about GAMES) would rather argue over reviews, sales figures, advertising, pixel counts and other various PR nonsense.

The actual gaming articles are almost completely ignored unless the title or story mentions it's rival.

Well i did not read the article but going from title i do not even want to bother. Sony does not need to be saved. They keep putting out quality exclusives and keep making major adjustments to their online service. So what they are in 3rd, doesn't mean you have the lowest quality machine or games.

What is more interesting, it's that even under bad economic conditions, and with a very high price tag, the PS3 managed to sell (WW) just 100K less than the xbox360. However they keep repeating the mantra that the PS3 needs saving every time NPD gets released (for them NPD==WW). Silly fans.

blazeblue and fear 2 are awesome.. really looking forward to the fear 2 dlc coming soon... i've also been craving some psp action lately but im holding out to buy the psp go... really excited about the whole psp minis concept as well as getting games like motorstorm, lbp, gran turismo and assassins creed bloodlines... another year, another hurtin on my wallet :/

All it takes for Microsoft to do the inevitable; to drop the price of the XBox 360 even further and just like Sony's last price drop... it will undermine all Sony's efforts.

Every time some PS3 games comes out or it gets a price drop we get these articles and over and the gap keep getting bigger and bigger.

Funny how people celebrating this expect Microsoft to sit on their hands and do nothing. If it costs Sony to make the PS3 $252.10 per unit... it must cost microsoft half of that to make a 360.

Ohh and about the list of games sony lovers mention.. the only game I am interested is M.A.G... and based on the fact that Sony is so far behind this generation and sales charts on these games it's prove that no everyone care about the games that Sony lovers seem to praise so much.

Well Blademask, you can cut off MAG of your wanted list. I've played it at GamesCom in Cologne and it sucks donkey balls. Bad name, bad graphics, bad gameplay. Nothing good. It even made some of the PS3's in the stand to freeze.

MS is selling the arcade model at $200, if you want to take sales away from the ps2, dropping the price would be a good move, but again, the xbox is competing against the ps3, who was a more expensive system until last monday and beside that was holding its own. i guess you're blinded by your arrogance and can't see that the ps3 has more value. and this is from a guy who had a bigger library on the 360 2 months ago, until i got rrod for the first time with my launch console (out of warranty) i started buying all the ps3 games that i missed cuz i was blinded by my own arrogance.

Difference is the Slim all new hardware with a new lower price. If MS drops the price of the Arcade & Elite, it's only old hardware with a lower price.

PS3 is still offering more, and now for less cash. It's a win win for Sony.

Same old argument by Sony lovers since day the PS3 was launched...

PS3 is offering more of something that based on facts people do not seems to care or want.

The PS3 was already priced at the price of the elite; so, price is not the problem. PS3 games are just overrated by Sony's loyalists but once the game is released sales charts simply prove that compared to xbox 360 games... people just don't care.

Now, I don't pretend that you will admit it... but there is no need to. all it takes is a quick look at NPD and the history of all super xbox 360 killing PS3 games and price drops that did nothing.

Sony now is on their last desperate option... they had to drop the price of the PS3 to $100 less than the elite to compete because at the same price is not working. if this does not work.. what will? Again all under the assumption that Microsoft will not drop the price too.
