Three New Exclusive IP's Announced for the PS3 - (Scans included)

Three new games have been announced for the PS3 from the new Cellius Inc. project between Namco and Sony.

(Cellius: The joint-venture will be focusing on developing games which can maximize the capabilities of the PS3's Cell Processor. This new company is headed by Ken Kutaragi.)

Months have passed and there has been no news about any of the games Cellius have been working on...until now.

The three games previewed in Famitsu magazine:

1) Brave Arms:

Brave Arms is a 3rd person adventure in which you seemingly have no ranged weapons, so you attack by getting in close and fighting at ultra-close range with context-sensitive attacks. You can see a "guide line" of your enemies' attacks that tells you what they're about to do and if you react with proper timing you can counter it by pressing the Juggle Button at the instant it would hit you. So it's about getting in close, then it becomes a context-sensitive fighter.

2) Chain Limit: A James Bond/Jack Bauer style spy adventure.

CHAIN LIM!T uses the Target Link system, which is SORT of similar to QTE, but far more advanced. It looks like you use the two sticks; the left stick chooses areas you can interact with in the environment while the right chooses your action. In the middle shot of the first page, the guy is choosing "Bite" and the tape on his girls pants. But he could choose to throw some other object or combine two other objects or whatever. Not exactly a linear QTE. In the airplane engine, we're seeing three scenarios. One where it looks like he dodges a falling box that hits the guy holding his legs, one where he messes up and dies, and one where he selects "remove" while targeting his own belt to drop his pants along with the guy holding them. So theoretically, you can choose any option at any target point, giving you 20+ possible actions. So instead of simple QTE multiple choice, you can combine your options in creative ways.

3) Second Season 01: A first person drama/sci-fi action title.

SECOND is an investigation/adventure game with multiple game modes. One is exploration, one is shooting, and one is selecting voice responses in realtime, which is very similar to Indigo Prophecy. The modes can happen on top of each other, so you can have gun shooting while choosing voice responses. So in the shooting scene they show, you can either blow the target away with your gun (by physically doing it, not selecting it as an option), or try and negotiate with him by selecting your dialogue. You can always change the camera with the right stick, and the options/voice commands change based on what you're facing.

- The 3 games represent very different narrative genres (action, survival, investigative).

- All 3 use QTE moments (Quick Time Events) like Shenmue, God Of War, Tomb Raider: Legend (and soon to be Heavenly Sword), that is, some (or all?) of the gameplay will involve selecting the available targets on screen and pressing buttons to perform different actions and change how the scenes play out. They are not, however, intended to be pre-rendered QTE games.

- They're all cinematic games involving "bravery, heroes, danger" etc.

Attached are the Famitsu previews, including screenshots.

Update: QJ.net (thanks kingboy)

Violater - Yuh I need to find someone to translate it. I am unaware if all the action is going to be QTE - or some of it...

ANime!? That's cartoon...they are definately in a Japanese style aka Final Fantasy, but they are not Anime. They look as if they will be pretty good, but gameplay wise it's all guesswork at this point. But still at least Cellius are doing something and 3 games is more than expected.

PS. This is all thanks to Da_Ali_G himself.

thanks

pps. Do I get the award for most edits to an aritlce, AND post?

Violater6251d ago (Edited 6251d ago )

I need a translated page. This is too good to be true.
Seems to be conceptual stages.

Deepbrown they look like anime to me, don't get me wrong I'm just trying not to get my hopes up these days without facts.
I see your saving your bubbles for later on this one deepbrown :)
So Big Ken Kutaragi is hard at work running Cellius.

The net has already gone off like wildfire about these games, The hype that is PS3 lives.
ps. yes i think u do get recognition for always changing the titles on articles and confusing me :)

Summary by Takuhi (of NeoGAF) - http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

I've been reading through them, and these are NOT INTENDED TO BE PRE-RENDERED QTE GAMES. (Well, OK CHAIN LIM!T sort of is.)

BRAVE ARMS
Brave Arms is a 3rd person adventure in which you seemingly have no ranged weapons, so you attack by getting in close and fighting at ultra-close range with context-sensitive attacks. You can see a "guide line" of your enemies' attacks that tells you what they're about to do and if you react with proper timing you can counter it by pressing the Juggle Button at the instant it would hit you. So it's about getting in close, then it becomes a context-sensitive fighter. It sounds quite similar to Cipher Complex, actually.

CHAIN LIM!T
CHAIN LIM!T uses the Target Link system, which is SORT of similar to QTE, but far more advanced. It looks like you use the two sticks; the left stick chooses areas you can interact with in the environment while the right chooses your action. In the middle shot of the first page, the guy is choosing "Bite" and the tape on his girl's pants. But he could choose to throw some other object or combine two other objects or whatever. Not exactly a linear QTE sort of thing. In the airplane engine thing, we're seeing three scenarios.

SECOND
Second is an investigation/adventure game with multiple game modes. One is exploration, one is shooting, and one is selecting voice responses in realtime, which is very similar to Indigo Prophecy. The modes can happen on top of each other, so you can have gun shooting while choosing voice responses. So in the shooting scene they show, you can either blow the target away with your gun (by physically doing it, not selecting it as an option), or try and negotiate with him by selecting your dialogue. You can always change the camera with the right stick, and the options/voice commands change based on what you're facing.

Maybe not revolutionary, but these are three original ideas, and they're actually pretty good. How often do you get to see video game pitches? (Assuming that's what these are) I am thoroughly fascinated by this... This is way more interesting than the Ubisoft leak/hack of last year.

techie6251d ago (Edited 6251d ago )

Thanks dude :)

To the people below: We have no idea how these games will turn out, or if they'll be any good. They could quite frankly suck b@lls. But it's nice to see some original games that have some potential. It's especially nice to see these over sports games and war games and alien games. So hey ho. Shoot me for being positive.

I'll wait for some real confirmation until I make any judgement.

What happened to Cellius? Where are the 3 new IPs

Back in March 2007, Namco Bandai and Sony Japan formed a new studio headed by Mr. Kutaragi and his son, a high executive in Namco Bandai. Back then 3 scans were reviewed and three games were named: Brave Arms, Second Season 01, and Chain Lim!t. Although it's only been a year but the recent 'canceling /holding back' of Eight Days and Get Away series from London studio has got gamers and press worry about more games going the way of development hell.

Last year alot of ppl were saying these graphics are not possible, after seeing MSG4, and Killzone 2, I am going to say, those graphics are definitely within the reach of PS3.

What do u guys think?

The gaming GOD5775d ago (Edited 5775d ago )

With games like MGS4, Uncharted, and Killzone 2, it's not hard to see that a high graphical standard is very achievable on the ps3.

The only problem is not everyone is willing to push the boundaries. Some companies are willing to go that extra mile. But for every effort that goes the extra distance, there are like two or three efforts that are lackluster. And I know I'm gonna get heat for this, but the leaders of the lackluster/lazy developing scene are EA and Ubisoft. However, there are signs that both EA and Ubisoft are going to start putting serious effort into the ps3

damrightfresh5775d ago

I hope they annnounce at least one of those game at this e3..

Gorgon5775d ago

I say those are target renders, not real screenshots.

The gaming GOD5775d ago (Edited 5775d ago )

But it's in Japanese and there is like nothing on it anyways

This is the website:

http://www.cellius.jp/

They made this site back in Jan 08. Maybe we'll be lucky to be giving some info at E3 or something

Sevir045775d ago

i sure hope these 3 titles show up in Sony's e3 or TGS con this year. Sony and namco working together would be awesome and it would gauarantee them being exclusive. but what really has me physced is chain limit and brave arms...

resistance1005775d ago

Games take a while to make, especially for the type of games there are aiming for here. They will be shown when ready if still in development

ShinFuYux5775d ago

I wanted to find out what ever happen to them.

I guess there hasn't been any new information since those scans came out.
