ARS: Killzone 2 may have captivated critics and gamers alike out of the gate, but weeks in the trenches with the game's multiplayer component have revealed some annoyances that could turn off gamers of all types in the long run.
Now that the dust has settled around the widely anticipated and highly touted launch of Killzone 2, it's worth taking some time to look deeper at the game's multiplayer component. Sony's big gun, as it were, boasts one of the most capable, impressive, and fully-featured online multiplayer components that a PS3 game has seen thus far, but it's only after spending almost a month with the game's online experience that one can truly appreciate what works and what doesn't with Guerrilla's latest title.
Surprisingly, I've found myself enjoying the multiplayer side of Killzone 2 less and less the more I play it. My gameplay habits have changed a bit recently, and I've been playing almost nothing but Killzone 2 since the game launched. Initially, the multiplayer had me wowed as it did the critics and masses alike. Though I still held to some of my original criticisms, I was for the most part captured by the overwhelming and relentlessly frenetic feel of the game's multiplayer.
The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.
Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!
The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer
Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱
The Amsterdam-based studio reflects on its humble beginnings, beloved franchises, and growth through the years.
Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.
32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III
Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.
I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.
Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.
The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.
Alex DS. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "Is the PlayStation 3 retro? This is a surprisingly hard question to answer as the system definitely has the age to be considered retro, having launched in 2006, over 15 years ago now. But with it being home to so many massive games, many of which still hold up today and in fact were released for the PlayStation 4 when that console was released, make the PS3 a retro console that doesn’t feel retro."
Typically, the term retro is given to items which are at least 20 years old (but not yet 40 years old).
Quick google search
No the PS3 is not yet a retro console. But if you're gonna put 1 game from a series in this list, then LBP2 should be there instead of the original, Motorstorm PR is also an overall better game than the 1st game and to put Tools of Destruction over A Crack in Time is a blasphemy when ACiT is the best game in the series.
I'm torn about KZ2 multiplayer. I have to admit that I've just recently started playing the MP.
It was very confusing to me at first, but now that I've got some play time in, I'm beginning to feel more comfortable with it. To be fair, it's like that with every MP part of games for me.
It has been pretty frustrating for me, but at the same time, it has me hooked.
Also, I think this article is a pretty fair assessment of the MP part of KZ2.
This guy sounds disappointed that this game isn't a Halo clone, when it was very clear long ago that this game was going to be more tactical and team-based along the lines of Counterstrike or Team Fortress.
He basically says "Waaaaaa! I can't go solo and take out ten enemies in a row!" Well, no crap. That's how the game was intentionally designed. The ranking system he complains about is also extremely well designed. You can choose to play at your rank, below your rank, or "all ranks". This is great for starting players, because it means as you play the game, you're not going to get thrashed by tons of turrets and snipers. It also ensures that the better weapons are going to be in the hands of the more experienced players instead of everyone running around with rocket launchers.
The guy complains about how too many of "X" class is running around. Again I'll bring up Counterstrike and Team Fortress. Has this guy ever played a team-based/class-based game before? Mere weeks ago, Team Fortress 2 players on PC were plagued by a glut of Scout users when the new Scout upgrade came out. That's how class games go. When a bunch of people start unlocking a class, they use it! WOW! This guy should probably have complained 2 weeks after Call of Duty 4 came out when everyone unlocked the .50 cal and was whoring it out.
Lots of his other complaints (like how the squad system takes SOOOOOO long) are just silly.
For gamers looking for a NEW multiplayer experience instead of another wannabe clone of Unreal Tournament or CoD4 (not saying those games are bad), KZ2 is fantastic and fresh. The maps are different than almost every other shooter out there. The badge system is unique. The "Warzone" match type is unique. Just play the game and enjoy it for its own strengths.
stupid artical killzone 2 multiplayer is the best muliplayer action to date period!!!
It tasted quite delicious to me ... different strokes for different folks ... eh?
Noobs crying still?
They've already changed it to appeal to your noobishness, stop gimping the game.
