The troubled development of Star Wars: Battlefront 3 has taken another interesting twist. After jumping from the sinking ship Free Radical to Rebellion, who are currently hard at work on Aliens vs. Predator 3, it has now been handed back into the hands of the developer of the first two installments – Pandemic.
After the recent leaked footage - which we'd thought to be in-game, but since turned out to be pre-rendered - appeared online in the post-Free Radical fallout, Battlefront 3 looked full of promise, and with Rebellion's experience with the underrated PSP version, the future of the series was looking good. Pandemic, however, are on a bit of a downward ebb in recent times, with Mercenaries 2 being a huge disappointment, and Lord of the Rings: Conquest – billed as essentially "Battlefront in Middle Earth" - being a bit of a turd.
Perhaps getting their hands back on their baby will be enough to inspire them to bring their A-game this time?

Game companies are not mature enough to handle this concept without turning it into a casino.
The remakes of battlefront should have been more simular to the originals. CoD/battlefield reskinned as Star Wars was not the anwser.
Someone has just revealed images proving that there was supposed to be a Star Wars Battlefront III for PSP.
Oh yea battlefront games were on the psp weren't they? And force unleashed as well. Great "handheld" versions those were.
Battlefront III in PSP is just Elite Squadron, was never cancelled. The start up menu is even the same same with X1 and X2.

After all these years, Free Radical's SWBF2 is still the best overall Star Wars game to me. It had everything you could want in big fun team battles, Jedi vs Sith and the space battles were extremely well done giving you the ability to land inside a capital ship's hangar to sabotage and take it down from within.
Free Radical didn’t make Star Wars Battlefront 2. The long defunct Pandemic Games developed the original Battlefront 2.

I wish that IP would make a return. The original was better but its the second one had its moments. You could pretty much level anything in those games if you had the right armaments.
This is just Battlefront Elite Squadron. Cancelling it was the right move, very few changes to Battlefront 3 except for a new forgettable campaign.
Very interesting.I hope Pandemic delivers this time and I also that EA and LucasArts step away from the damaging the creativity of the game development.
Hopefully Pandemic rediscovers it's form with this one. I loved Battlefront 2 and Mercenaries 1, but as the article says, their recent contributions have been an utter disappointment.

i loved the battlefront series, but if like me any of you have played lotr conquest, you should be very fearful of how bad they could make this game, lotr conquest....was the worst game i've ever played...think countersrike 1.6 graphics with only a handful of units...and no imagination...oh and crap combat
Just get me Battlefront 3 or I will be even sadder and curse my existence even more.
