MGS4 Rumor dismissed by theSixthAxis

Yahoo JP are running a story basically infering that Konami, amongst others, are aware there's a massive interest in porting Metal Gear Solid 4 to the Xbox 360. However, the publishers are concious that it's a Sony game at the moment, but next time around chances are their multiformat strategy will have changed somewhat.

Despite what you'll no doubt be reading around the web later today, this isn't Kojima announcing an Xbox 360 version of MGS4…

"MGS4 PS3 Only. But MGS5…?"

This is what the actual article says.

shingo5666d ago (Edited 5666d ago )

MGS5 on 360? That's even more impossible than saying "what if MGS4 come to 360".

Long ago I used to think of the possiblity of MGS4 being ported to the 360, but the day I bought that game and played it I realized fully that MS console can't handle that massiveness at all, they would have to cut down tons of stuff or otherwise the game would come in a ridiculous amount of DVDs.

Man_of_the_year5666d ago (Edited 5666d ago )

I have both systems and own MGS4 and i can tell you that there is nothing in MGS4 that can't be done on the 360. I am sick of you ignorant morons stating something as if it was fact...Lair was said it can't be done on the 360 and look how that game turned out, FFXIII was said it can't be done on the 360 and now its coming to the 360, DMC4 was said it can't be done on the 360 and it turned out better on the 360 and now here you are saying that MGS4 can't be done...not even Kojima said it can't be done - he said it was optimized for the PS3...but it can also be optimized to run on the 360.

DaTruth5666d ago

I thought 360 fans don't like to watch games... OH, that must just be the fanboys. Could you imagine hating such an incredible game because it didn't come out on your platform of choice. Do you think they'll refuse to buy it if it did come to 360? Talk about cutting off your nose in spite of your face!

Time_Is_On_My_Side5666d ago (Edited 5666d ago )

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots runs at 1080p at 60fps now tell me one retail not downloadable game that runs at high of a resolution on the XBOX 360? Second, Hideo Kojima (Producer, Director) said that 50GB of data was too small for his ambitions imagine 8.54GB (DVD9) will do for him (XBOX 360)?

zo6_lover275666d ago (Edited 5666d ago )

MGS4 is 720p
However, I am not sure what FPS it runs.
MGS4 is one of the few title's on the ps3 to say that it runs in 1080p on the package, but not actually do so

Sarcasm5666d ago

MGS4 runs natively in 1024x768 using temporal AA.

A better example of what the 360 cannot and will never do, is Wipeout HD which is 1920x1080 resolution.

Man_of_the_year5666d ago (Edited 5666d ago )

You are an ignorant FOOL if you think that it can't run on the 360 because of the reasons you stated...

1. There are games that run at 60 FPS on the 360 - Forza 2 does this with ease and also calculates 360 physical calculations per second.

2. It doesn't matter if it is 1080p (which it is not like stated earlier by other posters) but it can be scaled down to 720p and still look great. Resolution has nothing to do with if the game can be done on the 360. Not too mention that the 360 do 1080p but most games do not because 720p is the optimal resolution for games - don't believe me look at all the games on the 360 and the PS3 and i bet not even 5% of the games run at 1080p.

3. The game is one 1 blu-ray disc but it was not compressed. you could fit the game on 2 DVD 9's compressed. 9 hours of cut scenes and about 5 hours of gameplay is nothing to brag about. Now if it was 14 straight hours on 1 blu-ray disc that filled it up then you have something to brag about. With the new dashborad the discs could be stored onto the HDD and probably run a lot smoother AND with only 1 install and not several.

Like stated earlier - it was optimized to run on the PS3 it can be optimized to run on the 360.

I am sorry Some_One_Plays but you are one of the most ignorant posters on this site yet you try so hard to come off intelligent.

Do some research before you pull crap out of your a$$ to smear it over these boards to try and blind us like you are.

@why o why - actually i have the game Lair as well - 2 copies (but thats another story) - when the devs said it can't be done on the 360 they were talking about hardware not software - and who is to say that the game couldn't have been on 2 discs - but the game is not all that big so i am sure it can be done on 1 DVD9.

Why o why5666d ago (Edited 5666d ago )

I am sick of you ignorant morons stating something as if it was fact...Lair was said it can't be done on the 360 and look how that game turned out

Im sick of people thinking that because it cant be done on another system the game had to be great. The points dont match. lair was a big game. it had more things going on on screen than any 360 to date. Of course these claims are hypothetical but what they are truly saying is that more disks might be needed (obvious) and other things might have to get chopped, dumbed down or altered making it worse than a sloppy port

You do have a little point though to be fair. Remember when ubisoft or whoever said that naruto game couldnt be done on the ps3 then we saw the ps3 exclusive version and the FACT is they were talking po po cause Naruto ninja storm raped the 360 version......twice

edit

yeah hardware as in enough of whatever you need to HAVE that many things on screen at once just like heavenly sword

johover1125666d ago (Edited 5666d ago )

PS3's Mgs4 is really powerful, and just like naruto it MURDERED the xbox version. lets all just stop this, MGS5 would be bigger than MGS4 and if thats the case then it will STAY with sony. unless a xbox version comes out....it would have to be about 7 disks lol
(i had to agree your post Why o Why)

Bathyj5666d ago

You might not like Lair, but it still couldn't be done on XB.

Deal with it sook. MotY my arse.

Bottomline, if you want MGS4, get a PS3. We dont sit around whining, "wah I wish I had Halo, I wish I had Gears."

zo6_lover275666d ago

"Like stated earlier - it was optimized to run on the PS3 it can be optimized to run on the 360."

Being optimized for the ps3 will just make a 360 version that much harder, I would guess if they decided to make a 360 version, it would be in development for at least 2 years.
MGS4 used almost all of the ps3's traits, from bluray, to motion sensing, to its pressure sensitive buttons. The 360 has none of those things.
MGS4 also contained many Apple logos and products, and many sony products.

Rourker5666d ago

it true they did use a lot of apple products, and they also made a joke in the game about how you don't have to switch the disc because it uses bluebray, which I thought was funny, and it was a slight knock at Microsoft.

Time_Is_On_My_Side5666d ago (Edited 5666d ago )

Lol, I come off as intelligent because I am intelligent. The reason why I mentioned the resolution because it will determine how good the graphics will look. Just look at the Wii everything is in SD (Standard Definition) and hardly any games on the XBOX 360 run at 720p let alone 1080p. Halo 3 a game that was made specifically for the XBOX 360 doesn't even reach 720p in the end results in bad looking textures on HDTVs. Then you look at Killzone 2 that runs at 720p at 30fps that will most likely be the best looking first person shooter on the market.

Then you look at Uncharted: Drake's Fortune that runs at 720p looks nice and sharp on my HD display. When I was talking about the fps (Frames Per Second) I including the resolutions for a reason. The resolutions can determine how high the fps can be. So those games that run 60fps in Forza Motorsport 2 I’m guessing is really 720p, while the Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is 1080p at 60fps.

Lastly most games like Infamous will be exclusive due to disk space and will determine how ambitious the game will be. Resistance 2 has two individual campaigns both being the same length in game-play, a robust online community, with 60 players online. Whether you like it or not, the disc format will determine how ambitious the game can be. Remembering that there is also another game packed in with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Metal Gear Online Starter Pack). With the XBOX 360 downloading for the HDD I’m pretty sure you have to keep the disc in the console in order for it to work. Remembering with Final Fantasy XIII they said if they were ever to port it over to the XBOX 360 / PC they would have to use multiple disc (XBOX 360)/redue the whole coding (PC). I've never even heard about that with the other games.

BWS19825666d ago

but Man of the year, you're incorrect on the length of MGS4, it's much longer than 5 hours when cutscenes are removed. MUCH longer. I have my system, I want the other, I could care less because I already have the game.

Final_Rpg5666d ago

I thought 360 owners didn't care about MGS4.

Man_of_the_year5666d ago (Edited 5666d ago )

You are right that Halo3 doesn't run at 720p - it was actually done in a completely different type of programing for resolution - this has been covered may times - the game uses 2 frame buffers which is better than 720p and Halo 3 looks great. here is a link http://www.joystiq.com/2007...

I stand by my comment stating that only about 5% of games run at 1080p on both platforms and most games are optimized to run at 720p.

Also the size of a disc doesn't determin how well the game will be. Just because you can fit more into on a blu-ray over a DVD9. DEADSPACE is getting great reviews and it fits on both a blu-ray and DVD9 and comes out on both consoles - halo3 1 DVD9 and is the biggest selling game with an average rating of like 9.6. There have been a few exclusive games on the PS3 that are considered huge flops - the use of blu-ray couldn't help them out now.

Bioshock, GEARS1, The Orange Box - all fit on DVD9 and all are GOTY. So your point about the type of media being used as an influance in how well the game will be is garbage.

Obviously SE has to change the coding for the 360 game...and what does the disc having to be in the tray have anything to do with MGS? Its only in the tray to prevent piracy - there is no loading nor does the disc even spin while playing if it is stored on the HDD - you really need to research more.

You are just trying to back up your console of choice by regergitating the same crap over and over again but you're not taking in the answers as it seems you just want to ignor the obvious.

There is nothing the PS3 can do that the 360 can't PERIOD.
This has been shown time and time again with multiplats - and as stated before - there were tons of games that were to have been exclusive to the PS3 that was said that they can't be done on the 360 and when the game did end up going to the 360 not only did it meet the same standards of the PS3 but it surpassed it - you are only saying that MGS4 can't be done on the 360 because it hasn't been ported over to it yet. And if it does then what - all you sony fanboys will say the same crap about the next PS3 exclusive that may end up on the 360 "oh it can't be done - the 360 can't handle the graphics - the 360 is just not powerful enough bla bla bla"

i Own both systems and can say that it can be done - all you PS3 only fanboys can only argue 1/2 of the argument and its always uninformed, uneducated rants.

Shane Kim5666d ago

Man of the year please shut the fúck up. Are you some kind of developer? If the god damn devs are saying it can't be done on xbox 360, then it can't.

Man_of_the_year5666d ago

Don't be so ignorant - there have been plenty of times where Devs had stated that the game they are creating can only be one on a certain console either being 360 or PS3 and its just not the case. They are only saying this because its exclusive to that console. Seriously you PS3 fanboys have some real mental issues.

I give you links and arguable points as well as others on this site and you still disagree and take bubbles away from them - PS3 fanboys are seriously the WORST fanboys of any console - along with being the most blinded, most ignorant, uneducated, easily manipulated bunch of pansy a$$ cry babies i have ever seen.

I have both systems and utilize the strengths of both which are hooked up to my 1080p 46' LCD samsung HDTV with 5.1 surround sound. I play demos and games off both and compare games off of both and i will argue with any of you skirt wearing Sony Fanboys that would rather spew their ignorant CRAP on the forums trying to find other ignorant fanboys to join their Army of moronic collective brainwashed thinking.

You guys make me sick.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro42d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

Hideo Kojima laments that Metal Gear Solid 4's digital battlefield 'is no longer science fiction'

Game creator Hideo Kojima is and probably will always be best-known for his creation and stewardship of the Metal Gear series at Konami, which since his departure has been more-or-less on permanent hiatus (don't mention Survive). In his almost three decades these games evolved to the point where they predicted certain problems of the information age (MGS 2), took aim at contemporary topics like Guantanamo Bay (MGS: Ground Zeroes), and ended on a profound sense of sadness about our species' inability to break the cycles of global conflict (MGS V).

It's not clear what sparked this reflection, but Kojima's been thinking about Metal Gear Solid 4, an entry that was (and unfortunately still remains) a PlayStation 3 exclusive. In that entry the player controls an aged Solid Snake in the year 2014, caught up in a civil war being fought between Private Military Companies (PMCs).

Dirty_Lemons353d ago

That was a great fucking game/ movie.

DarXyde353d ago

To this day, it's one of those games where I refuse to skip the cutscenes, no matter how many playthroughs I've done.

But if you ask me...MGS2 was bloody prophetic and has aged like fine wine. That game was blasted as the weakest entry, and yet it's so enduring. I replayed it some time last year and it was remarkable.

sadraiden353d ago

Heed not the lamentations of people that say that MGS2 is bad because of the Snake/Raiden bait and switch. Every MGS game has its own merits, and while most people consider 3 to be the best, they all shine equally in my opinion.

porkChop353d ago

@sad

I would generally agree but with the exception of MGSV. It had truly excellent gameplay/combat, but dull and largely empty open world(s), and a narrative that is literally only half finished.

I really wish Kojima hadn't tried to go open world with MGS. It just wasn't right for the series. But I get it. He didn't want to make MG anymore but he wasn't allowed to make anything else. So he had to experiment within that franchise. Still, it was the wrong direction.

Santouryuu352d ago

I have been thinking about this a lot, MGS2 being the weakest and getting blasted.
My conclusion, for some years now, it's my favorite game of the series.
Going from MGS1 to MGS2 was such a big leap, in graphics, mechanics, etc.
And now it's even more relevant for being 'bloody prophetic' as you stated.

Maybe dust of my vita and play it again...

porkChop353d ago

It's a shame we never got a remaster of MGS4. The original game only rendered at 1024x768, and it ran anywhere from like 20fps to 60fps depending on the area. A remaster could have very easily cleaned up the visuals and performance. It's such a great game. I just want to play it again but in its best possible state.

MIDGETonSTILTS17353d ago

I agree, but they did all sorts of tricks to make use of the ps3’s cell processor….they’d probably have to rebuild the game in order to make it run on another machine. And, if that involves remaking those cutscenes somehow, then itll never happen, unfortunately.

porkChop352d ago

Nah. There have been plenty of remasters of PS3 games and they've turned out fine. It can be done.

cell989353d ago

He was always ahead with this series. MSG1 taught me about the importance of passing on our genes into future generations but in a responsible way, for they are bound to what we experienced in our lifetime. Sons of liberty taught me about global control and simulation runs to test society in a grand scale, the importance and dangers of control of information. MGS3 taught me about patriotism and how that can blind you into doing things you never would have otherwise, all for the sake of politicians who only see you as another pawn in their grand scheme of things. MSG4 taught me war is inevitable and always orchestrated because it's great for the economy. Soon simulation systems will start dictating who goes to war and why, all run through proxies. Privatization of military company are already here. We already started to see how a small group of elites dictates everything that happens. Nothing is done, nothing happens without strings being pulled.

Eidolon353d ago

You learned all this from MGS?

Tody_ZA353d ago

All that was literally the themes and core story of each game, so not surprising he learned that from MGS. Metal Gear Solid 2 in particular is so relevant today, it was more than a decade ahead of its time and a work of genius. Kojima saw what the digital future was going to become when it was in its infancy. Even MGS 5 despite being unfinished and less of a traditional Metal Gear Solid game with regards to story, had a fair bit to say about language and control over it that is relevant today.

It's a highly acclaimed series for a reason, and one of my favourite.

Eidolon353d ago

I've watched my brother play the MGS games, but I only beat MGS1 myself on the PSP in 2014, and MGSV in 2016. I took the themes and plots as lore, tbh.. trying to piece together the story of MGS rather than relating them to our current times.

Tody_ZA353d ago

It's definitely social commentary, Eidolon. You should read the "themes and analysis" section of the Wikipedia page for MGS2: Sons of Liberty for a start! Game was heavy on this.

Eidolon353d ago

I'll take a look, thanks. Actually might pick up MGS2 again (PS Vita), It's been years since I last played. Might start a new game tbh.
