New PS3 exclusive game 'Quantum Theory' by Tecmo

Scans from Famitsu showing a new PS3 exclusive Third Person Shooter from Tecmo called 'Quantum theory'. Set to release in 2009.

The developers of this game wanted to make it for XBOX®360, but it just wasn't good enough for XBOX®360 standards, so Microsoft turned them down. So that left them no choice but to develop it for the ps3... so sad...

Yes I know they released Rygar on ps2 and Ninja Gaiden Sigma on ps3. But with Itagaki around, Tecmo's main efforts were geared to the 360. With him gone, things will open up more

The Japanese don't have a clue about shooters. They only invented the cover system (winback) and the stealth genre (mgs), which every modern FPS/TPS employs...

Normally I would say it's going to be great game now that something is exclusive but this is Tecmo and it's a 3rd person shooter. I have my doubts. It's always good to have an exclusive though.

Plus it seems that all 3rd person shooters are becoming like Gears (GTA4, Dark Void, Army of two anyone, as far as cover mechanic i mean) If you look at the pick closely you will see what appears to be a large now generic "Space Marine" which leads me to think this could end up being a sort of Gears ripoff, which in all honesty I am kinda hoping for sence I only have a PS3. but we will see!!

would like to know who's at the helm of said ip. Itagaki isnt my favorite dev by any means stretch of the imagination but I respect him as a talented and acclaimed developer and I'm not sure how well Tecmo will be without him. IMO he was the heart and soul of Tecmo so I wont be going goo-goo-gah-gah over this just yet.

T'will be interesting to see if Tecmo has enough talent to fill atleast 1/2 his shoes. I'll chalk this 1 up as "we will see". Its also interesting that Tecmo is making a PS3 exclusive instead of multi plat since thats where the doe is. Makes me wonder if Itagaki MS bound.

Itagaki isn't the heart of Tecmo. He's just a self absorbed developer that believed good game design is purposely going out of the way to make a game overly unbalanced. And on top of that he just loves to shoot his mouth off and insult every game and developer that's within the same genre as him. Plus he's a rampant Microsoft fanboy. The comments he's made to Heavenly Sword, Devil May Cry and Tekken franchises just proves it. If every developer was like him I'd loose all respect for the medium. I hope they release an in game trailer with gameplay of it soon.

The sheer premis of having an exclussive 3rd party game still has me dizzy... I'll report back how I feel about this later. Graphicas are , even at this quality, still really good.

a 3rd person action adventure whoo. My type of games. Well as long as they develop a good story then i am in.

Edit: Keep in mind that Temco made NG1 and NG2. NG has some of the best gameplay in action games but by far the worst story ever. Talk about lame ass story. I hope this game won't suffer the same fate as NG with reagrds to story.

Wow! It looks extremely good from the scans. Im really liking the art direction they have going. I have to say i am extremely surprised to see Tecmo pull this one out of nowhere . . . It seems over the past few years, while Team ninja pumped out all the famous titles, Tecmo and the rest of the staff not part of the Team Ninja team were busy conceptualizing and building assets for Next Generation games.

Many thought Itagaki and his team were the back bone of Tecmo, and without him Tecmo will be nothing. It seems those quick assumptions might have been wrong. IT is very encouraging to see tecmo spring up from nowhere with such an original looking title. I sincerely wish them success. As for Itagaki, i really hope he moved to Microsoft Game Studios with his team.

About being a PS3 exclusive . . . . . . i hope it stays that way. If Sony has to publish it to ensure it is an exclusive, i suggest they do that very quickly before they anger any more PS3 owners. It is good to see a Hardcore looking title like this. Here is Hoping this is the PS3 version of Gears of war?

From what I can tell Looks like A Japanese Perspective on "Gears of War".

Which is fine withe me. Hopefully it'll be much more Stylized then the Unreal Bulky Human Art style.

Look the biggest and greatest titles this gen will be on the PS3 I'm no fanboy just stating the obvious I don't think you can make a game with limited compression at 1080p on any other system but the PS3 and no system has offered the storage space the PS3 offers. Once devs untap this system prepare to be wowed. Though I think that graphically and gameplay wise GOW3 will be the benchmark for all games to come. I have a funny feeling that the game will define gaming this generation and LBP for that matter when you look back at this gen in a few years.

this is their second shot and hopefully the have a little more better understanding and proper talent to utilize the Cell and deliver astounding horsepower and power and magnitude to capture their amazing game Ideas.
Tecmo has always amazed with their old PC tech games (ninja gaiden,becah volleyball)for MS Xbox and xbox 2.
