Pity about no Damage update (yet!), but hey I'm not going to complain about a free update, especially one that gives me some new cars to buy.

I actually quite enjoy these roll-out updates by Polyphony Digital; it shows the developer is fully committed to supporting it's products but I wouldn't expect anything less from PD. Just when I think I'm finished with the game out comes an excuse to pick it up again.

I'm quite intrigued by the new GT by Citreon; that car looks like it's straight out of Blade Runner.

myke66995676d ago

This is the first of the update leading to the full spec III for GT5P. I wouldn't count out damage as being part of the update but personally I'd rather have new tracks, better penalty system (to simulate damage), private lobby, voice chat. I don't think you can expect any more than that considering that GT5P is, after all, a glorified demo.

Marcello5676d ago

I was hoping for some Trophies, would have given me a good excuse to start over again.

whoelse5676d ago

Custom Soundtracks and Trophies could improve the game by miles!

Tapewurm5675d ago

I think the voice chat and being able to set up private races with friends only should be top priority. These two adjustments would make the "Glorified Demo" absolutely Amazing!!! Get on it Polyphony!!!

i got bored of this game a long time ago

bumnut5676d ago (Edited 5676d ago )

what? i don't like gt so you assume im a forza fan?

i got bored of it because there is nothing to do except race around the same very limited number of tracks.

thereapersson5676d ago

So if they released more tracks, you'd get back into the game? Personally, I think that they should release more tracks, but when you think about it, this is is a prologue, and not the real game (GT: 5). The amount of stuff they are providing for FREE is already astounding, and (to me) well worth the asking price.

It would be cool if they released more racing circuits for the game, but because GT:5 isn't out, it's not as bad as we think.

myke66995676d ago (Edited 5676d ago )

You're obviously not a die-hard GT fan. On the other hand, I've spent over a grand just to play this game: a Logitech G25 steering wheel ($250), a Sharp Aquos 32" 1080p LCD ($1000), HDMI cable ($100), Headphones ($300), 2 copies of GT5P ($80). And it's worth every penny I've spent. And of course, a PS3 ($400).

PirateThom5676d ago

Why would you buy a $100 HDMI cable?

HDMI is digital, a cheap cable will give the same results as a expensive one.

VF34EJ255676d ago

I'm personally waiting for the Nurburgring track or Infineon Raceway (my home course in real life)

myke66995676d ago

Because I can afford it. Of course I can pay $20 for the Chinese made cable but I'd rather pay a bit more knowing that it is made here in North America- it just help me sleep better at night.

bumnut5676d ago

i will buy gt5 when it is released, but prologue is boring for me now.

popup5676d ago

If you were the guy in 1st place on every race leaderboard and had every car then I could understand. Race and car fans don't get as bored because the game simulates their passion for cars not for concole games maybe.

thereapersson5676d ago (Edited 5676d ago )

You fail to use proper logic in this arguement. It isn't about utilizing cables that are made in the US, it's about going through the proper channels to ensure you save money. I laugh people who say "Oh, because I make the money, i'm free to make IDIOTIC purchasing decisions.". This isn't about how much money you make, it's about having the intelligence to discern what is a good deal, and what is masquerading as a good deal when it's really a subpar product.

You using available funds as an excuse to waste your money on overpriced cabling is ridiculous. I went on Monoprice.com and bought a CAT-2 HDMI 1.3A certified cable for 15 dollars, and every time I see someone buy a Monster Cable HDMI cable when I am in Best Buy, I silently laugh to myself. You are just trying to justify the fact that you paid 100 dollars for a name and a few marketing gimmicks on the package, and those that can see through that will tell you if you really did buy a 100 dollar HDMI cable, you wasted your money. It's like when people buy BOSE surround sound systems, and then try to convince themselves that they made an excellent purchase because they overspent on something that could have been built for half the price.

Just because you have the money to spend doesn't mean you have the intelligence to properly utilize those funds.

The difference in quality between Chinese made and Japanese made is huge!!!!!!

China has the largest population out of any other country on Earth...it mass produces everything in the cheapest way possible.....

Ben10545676d ago

give the guy a break,
the cheap ones in japan arent made as good, i brough a £10 HDMI and after a few months the plastic coating started to come out of the socket. so now he has got a $100 HDMI cable he can sleep well for the next 100 years knowing that nothing is gonna go wrong with it, also you get a free garrantee/insurance with the expensive ones.
also why sell $100 hdmi cables if noone buys them

thereapersson5676d ago (Edited 5676d ago )

Why sell them? Because the general public (as consumers) are rather ignorant, and will buy whatever is presented to them. Most people don't want to do research on what is a better investment; they would rather just buy what they are told is the best, even if it's all BS.

Also, there is a difference between getting something at wholesale price from a corporation, and buying something at retail at the same price because it's manufactured for extremely cheap.

I can't believe I lost a bubble because people around here are too dense to realize common sense when they see it. Then again, i've been here long enough to realize that most people are complete fanboy fools...

Quisp5676d ago

I buy Monster cables, but, on Ebay for hardly anything.

Still_Breathing5676d ago

I'm not arguing if $100 HDMI cable is a wise investment. I just want to say, using cost as the only judgement is not very wise. That's how we get ultra cheap quality products from China that don't last as long.

Blakzhuk5676d ago (Edited 5676d ago )

If you want Nurburgring buy Forza 2.

na2ru15675d ago (Edited 5675d ago )

1080p TV NEEDS EXPENSIVE hdmi cable for higher bitrate tranfer otherwise audio would skip due to bottleneck data tranfer.

This is what happened to me when i tried 1080p game such as GT5p with my cheap hdmi cable. sound stopped a second many times. I brought £30 hdmi 1.5meters and sorted. £89 cable were also available lol. they have a much higher bitrate transfer but only for future proof since no device can output in such high bitrate.

1080i/720p can manage fine with $15 cable.

Yipee Bog5675d ago

when i bought my launch ps3 i got a 3 FOOT hdmi for $59.99. just bought the cable in your link for under five dollars total. i only have a 1080i TV, so not worried about 1080p

free to play no matter how good the game is if it is a free to play i dont play.

i want to pay full price for a full balanced experience unlocks shouldn't be earned by money but by the hard work you put in the game.

my free to play nightmares are borderlands, diablo, titanfall,w arhawk 2,halo and star wars battlefront.

SteamPowered3707d ago

If you have ever played Path of Exile, that is the best way of microtransactions ever. PoE is a great game. Its what Diablo 3 should have been and it is completely free. All the items for purchase are cosmetic and the store isnt intrusive at all. In fact, I had to actually look in the menu to find where the microtransactions are housed.
But for the most part, yes. F2P is garbage.

iceman063707d ago

I would add Warframe to that list as well. Very much like you describe. Everything that you need is offered to you in game. Things that you pay for are either cosmetic or for convenience (i.e., you are impatient). Might not be the game for you, but the F2P structure is pretty sound.

caseh3707d ago

At which point did Titanfall become free to play hmmmm...

ThatArtGuy3707d ago

He's not saying that they are, he's saying it would be horrible if they were.

caseh3707d ago

He should have said 'would be' rather than 'are' I guess.

lonelyplayer3707d ago

Hey I agree 100% with you. I hate those unbalanced pay-to-win games.

maniacmayhem3707d ago

I agree.

The whole F2P model is designed to keep the user playing and paying well past an ordinary retail price. Most devs also design features that prey on a person's gambling, need to collect or complete an objective as soon as possible type of vice.

Trust I worked at Zynga and you should read the design tricks and tactics used to squeeze every penny out of their user base.

Yes, every company has their tactics but the F2P design in most video games is so blatant and disgusting. I stay away from those games...well I try but that damn Marvel Alliance... :(

gamer20133707d ago

A great example of a game that features the blood sucking F2P model would be Warthunder.

ExCest3707d ago

The Valve f2p model is really good. You don't have to pay a dime or grind for hours to get items to boost your "skills". You just happen to want more hats so you pay money for them.

Prime1573707d ago (Edited 3707d ago )

Edit: I'm just not sure it's so simple as lumping free to play as bad....

That's pay to win which is a derivative of free to play, and which is also very common amongst AAA $60 retail games. The $60 lures you into a false sense of free.

There are games attempting many facets of the free to play model and some are pretty good, like planet side, some private servers, team fortress, DOTA and warframe WHERE you literally never (have to) spend anything - I didn't on planet side 2 with 20+ hours, and similar with warframe.

There are also some like killer instinct and warframe (KEYWORD: CROSSOVER) where it's basically a glorified demo. KI has only one/two characters, and warframe trenches you into a character you might not like in a little (but least you can build a new one several hours later).

Then there are the worst of the worst where you have to pay to win. Sometimes it's by buying upgrades to your gear like in runes of magic, or buying overly expensive increased experience in leveling grinding games like Rohan: Blood Feud.

Where I'm coming from: I had a free to play phase where I played (in no particular order but memory):

ragnarok (both subscribed before free to play, and free to play), path of exile, dragons nest, cloud nine, holic, requiem: bloodymare, runes of magic, tribes, warframe and planetside 2 (pre-ps4), blacklight, dcuo, dragon's nest, maple story, runes of magic, Farmville, clash of clans, team fortress 2 (actual, I bought it that long ago), dota, league of legends, lotr online, minecraft, wizard 101, dungeon fighter, many aria and net gear games, perfect world...

And many more that I can't remember because I don't want to.... And by played, I would say I spent more than 5+ hours (but mainly 20+ on aforementioned titles) on each of those game listed above, sometimes hundreds.

Worst business practices

Paying to play online (PS+, XBL)
Season passes
disc locked content
Paid DLC (DLC should be free unless it is significant enough to be an expansion)

Jubez1873707d ago

Paying to Play Online: It's a service. A TV is a product, cable is a service. A playstation is a product, PS+ is a service. How many services do you get for free? I'm sure you pay a cellphone bill as well.

Season Passes: I 100% agree on here. Never pay for anything that is not guaranteed to be coming.

Paid DLC: No one says you have to buy it. If it's cosmetics or trivial things such as Themes and Avatars there's no problem with it. You don't HAVE to buy it. It takes resources to MAKE dlc. Why would a company (video game companies are profit maximizers, btw) go and make a whole DLC questline or storyline and then give it to you for free? That brings ZERO marginal revenue to the company. I know it sounds great, and companies that do it are great. But the suits up top, yea they don't care. That's just business. Just because you bought an entre doesn't mean the dessert is going to be free. And AGAIN, you don't have to buy it or support it.

Imalwaysright3707d ago (Edited 3707d ago )

Games are NOT services. We pay full price for them and that means that we should be able to play 100% of their content with no additional cost.

crusf3707d ago

"Paid DLC" Then people complain no DLC is coming for there particular system or game.

Prime1573707d ago (Edited 3707d ago )

I agree with you mostly, but I disagree with ps+...

I bought into that in 2011 and don't regret it. It's like Sega channel, but feasible.

Maybe I just play too many games, so ps+ makes sense.. Like the payday 2, remember me, bioshock infinite, outlast, and more in the last month or two... I would have had to spend an easy few hundred on those games I wanted to play.

Jubez1873707d ago

As a business student, I have to disagree heavily with some points.

_FantasmA_3707d ago (Edited 3707d ago )

Paying to use your own internet, DLC (all of it, I'd rather have expansion packs with a ton of content), DLC coming out a week after the game's release, incomplete games with missing sections sold as DLC, pre order bonuses, short and pointless campaigns, not having server lists (like COD which insert you into random games and maps), expensive and permanent digital prices, yearly sequels with minor changes at full price, lack of challenging AI, lack of originality, and most of Micro$ofts "business practices." This may sound like a hateful statement, but I blame M$ for bringing most of these things to consoles. I remember when there free and inexpensive map packs on Live in the early years of 2006 and 2007, then they started pinching pennies.

MaxwellBuddha3707d ago

Who else here has been gaming long enough to remember when paying $50 got you the WHOLE game? No left-out content sold as DLC, disc-locked content, season passes, outfits, avatars, etc.

Excuse me, I need to go have a cry at what has happened to my beloved hobby.

Derekvinyard133707d ago

Amen brother, plus there wasn't as much bugs as there was today. Nearly 80% of games have patches

Vegetarianshark3707d ago (Edited 3707d ago )

Ea happened,Capcom happened these giant shameless corporations has bastardized the gaming industry with their BS money-grabbing tactics and ruined so many amazing games (Battlefield,Resident evil and many more).Very sad indeed.
