IGN: PlayStation Home Hands-on

IGN writes: "Since its GDC 2007 debut -- and subsequent delays -- PlayStation Home has never been high on my list of most anticipated PlayStation software. Sure, it seems like navigating the open areas of the social networking application and chatting it up with other PS3 users, decorating a living space, and playing free arcade games could be cool, but as I waited for a hands-on opportunity, I kept asking myself if the title could really keep me entertained for hours on end.

With an afternoon under my belt, it would appear the answer it yes… although a lot of that time was spent spouting gibberish at other users.

Today, I was lucky enough to get an e-mail from PlayStation Underground informing me that I had been added to Home's closed beta, an honor I earned from downloading the Home theme on the PlayStation Network. After punching in a voucher code, downloading an 85-MB file, and pressing X, I was into the "game" Phil Harrison used to wax on and on about."

I'm guessing he didn't read the NDA then?

BSigel815712d ago

But, as press don't they get the right to preview it?(It could be like GTA4's reviews with an embargo). More than likely he is breaking the NDA, but wasn't IGN putting up Home previews before.

PirateThom5712d ago

Yeah, but the previous Home previews were not through an open beta selection, they were official Sony previews with Sony reps present. So, they probably have the right to preview it, as they have been doing, but not through what seems to be a personal account.

Marceles5712d ago

I think they were previewing it from press conference presentations like E3 and GDC though. This one is like a personal, one-man hands-on. Either way he's lucky...I want to try it out

BSigel815712d ago

Yeah, both of you are right about that. I'm just wondering why he didn't do what he usually does with his previews. Not that I won't read it, I know that the beta had to be at PAX so he could have gotten time with it there. I guess he wanted to rub it in our faces lol

LastDance5712d ago

why is this guy refering to home as a 'game'? It's meant to be a social network.

The fun of it is being with your friends or meeting arnold schwartzenegger. Not running around and morphing your face.

So, I Finally Played Home

I recently published an article about beating my Steam backlog by getting organised and the first game I’ve completed with this new approach is Home.

I chose Home not because of its production values or reviews, but because, well, it’s short. I needed a game to start my new approach on the right foot and read that Home takes less than two hours to beat.

Whatever my reasons for finally installing Home, I found it to be an enjoyable yet flawed title.
