I dont see why consoles cant run crysis, this looks even better than crysis.

CViper5719d ago

have you even played Crysis?

The Crysis denial of console owners is beyond delusional. No offense.

Statix5719d ago (Edited 5719d ago )

Is that why Crytek themselves said that consoles can run the Cryengine 2 at High graphical settings? Just some food for thought.

M337ING5719d ago

Statix, running the engine is not the same as running a game on that engine with specifically designed levels and environments.

Cryengine 2, in its most basic form, can be USED on consoles. however, the complexity and scope of Crysis CANNOT be replicated this generation

Bombibomb5719d ago (Edited 5719d ago )

Crysis looks 6 times better than Far Cry 2. 7, when you take consider the FACT that Crysis is a sandbox game that has high res textures ALL OVER the place and it supports mods. You people that haven't seen Crysis running on very high settings before adding stupid, ignorant comments like that make me sick.

Hydrolex5719d ago

This is better than Crysis ! why ?

cuz you are playing it on a $300 machine ( 360 ).

$300 vs +$2000 to play crysis ?

Bombibomb5719d ago (Edited 5719d ago )

So basically what you're trying to say is that Far Cry 2 looks better than Crysis just because you can't afford a good PC that can run Crysis even on low settings? LMAO!

Crysis looks better MUCH better than Far Cry 2 and that's a fact. Just like the PC version of Far Cry 2 looks much better than the wimpy console versions.

radio0o5719d ago (Edited 5719d ago )

Crysis looks better than this but that's not a big achievement considering it still can't run on modern PCs. People need to stop bringing up Crysis, it is a poorly designed game. Any developer can make a game look like a CG movie, but will it run on modern hardware? That's the hard part. There are games like Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5, Heavy Rain, etc all of which rival Crysis graphics and still run fine on modern hardware. The developers of Crysis are piss poor.

Anyway, I don't see what so "incredible" about this Far Cry 2 footage. Looks pretty average to me.

RememberThe3575719d ago

I guess I'd feel that way too if I spent 3 G's on a computer for one game.

@radio0o: You have a great point there. It seems the guys at Crytech are great at the whole tech thing but are having a little trouble when it come to the game part. I never played Crysis, and probably never will, but in Far Cry when the aliens or whatever came in I dropped that game like a rock.

morganfell5719d ago (Edited 5719d ago )

Yes I have an expensive desktop I built and it can run Crysis. But I also have a laptop I picked up for $1999 that runs Crysis and it blazes. The laptop has HDMI and bluetooth so I hook it to my 52 inch and set on the couch with a lapboard to use KB/M.

There is actually a laptop similar to mine that has the same gaming hardware in it minus some of the extras like finger print reader and such that is $1399 and that laptop flies. You can run Crysis without giving up a kidney.

As far as this game it looks great but only Ubisoft would make a tactical shooter and decide that the prone position is unnecessary. Idiots.

consolewar5719d ago

this site is full of ps3fanboys......apparently now the ps3 is on par with high end PCs

"here are games like Killzone 2, Gran Turismo 5, Heavy Rain, etc all of which rival Crysis graphics and still run fine on modern hardware."

morganfell5719d ago (Edited 5718d ago )

Sounds like to me someone is bitter about the PS3 having become the undisputed console graphics king. And no, as good as Crysis looks in some areas a lags in many others compared to Killzone 2.

There is also a scene in MGS4 after the first level when Otacon first talks to Snake about the Octocamo. Fellow MGS4 gamers know the scene. Sorry, but nothing in Crysis looked like the lighting in that portion.

EDIT: Also the PS3 version of Crysis, referred to as Crysis 1.5 is one of the worst kept secrets in game development.

Statix5718d ago (Edited 5718d ago )

And how would you know that? Has a port of Crysis even been attempted on consoles? How would you know for an absolute fact that a game like Crysis would be technically impossible to replicate on those platforms? Considering that there has been absolutely NO real evidence whatsoever to corroborate this long-held belief in the PC-centric community. I think this is a case more of WISHFUL THINKING on behalf of certain fanbases, rather than technical reality. Crysis is a visually excellent game, but to state that a one year-old game is still the graphical be-all, end-all at this current point in time ONE YEAR LATER is a little far-fetched. You really believe that videogame technology, taking into account the inevitability of console development and advancement, hasn't progressed in a year?

If anything, a game like Far Cry 2, which has far more openness and vastness of level structure than even Crysis, along with arguably better (more complex) vegetation, wind, fire, weather, and environmental physics, demonstrates that a game of similar or greater scope and complexity CAN be achieved on current-generation consoles.

Dacapn5718d ago

2K for a game is a waste. I'd rather have a $2000 party.

5718d ago
Marojado5718d ago

Crysis is a very good looking game, but there's no way in hell that it should require such high spec computers to run. Crytek just needed to optimise the engine better, which they confirmed they have done for Crysis: Warhead. apparently it will run on high settings on a much more reasonable computer.

jmcorp5718d ago

Lets look at this logically and truthfully shall we...

firstly, i have seen Crysis running at severly High settings, with ULTRA ULTRA high resolution graphics, and i would be lieing if i say it doesn't look great, heck i can't tell the difference between that and real life sometimes...

Its pretty obvious the CryTech guys are very good at pushing graphical tech, but here's the down side, the game is horribly optimised, and would require $1000 PC's to run on a reasonable grafic setting.

so i have to spend $2000 - $3000 to play your game? no thanks...

moving on: PS3 fanboys...

@ radio0o

you are one of the disgusting bunch on this site, truth be told you are a PS3 fanboy...

so games like your beloved KZ2 and Heavy Rain, rival the graphics of crysis do they?

who pays you to say that?

I have seen your Killzone 2 in action, and the graphics can never be considered as a "rival" to Crysis, Crysis destroys K2 in amicable fashion, grey-overloaded...no colour, low-res textures, high poly models = better than crysis...give me a break.

heavy Rain, HAHAHA!

the biggest joke in gaming history, what is so special in that game that makes you PS3 fanboys so horny?

the game doesnt even look as good as gears 2...seriously?

and the gameplay...ugh! talk about quick-time event overload!

Heavy Rain compete with crysis...because the PS3 can now rival top-end PC's...your a BIG joke fella. A shamble.

Back to Far Cry 2...

firstly this video showcases great graphics for a console game, that is not linear, its a freaking sanbox game! and looks so beautiful.

i think this will be a candidate for GOTY, like it or not, this game is great, all the huge possibilities...and great graphics for a non linear console shooter.

RememberThe3575718d ago

Take your ass to the Open Zone with your punk ass attitude. So what if dudes a fanboy? At least, hes not a douse bag.

Time_Is_On_My_Side5718d ago

I don't think "fashionfreakj86" was being serious and was just stating that the console version looks pretty damn good, lol.

mepsipax5718d ago

okay first off, neither the 360 or the PS3 could run crysis as is, it is an ineffiecient piece of sh!te as for as coding goes, and the 360 while it may have the ability to run it at very high could definitely not have all the physics objects, ai, and general processes, while on the other hand, the ps3 (when used correctly) has much more processing power than the 360, but the ps3 can not process graphics to the extent of crysis's without sacrificing a good chunk of it's processing power. anyway far cry 2 is optimized for the consoles and will look great and be a great game. so stop being such graphics whores and enjoy the game, god, crysis is an unoptimized system hog, while far cry 2 is a sleek optimized game, I'm not saying far cry 2 is better, but to tell ya'll the truth, once you see crysis at the highest resolution possible at 60fps, nothing could top that, plus I don't really like the overal brown tinge of far cry 2, it bugs me.

jmcorp5717d ago

Ughh....This game is not going to be good.

RememberThe3575719d ago

Dude I'm right there with you, I was looking foreword to this game, but the more I saw the less I cared.

LevDog5719d ago (Edited 5719d ago )

Looks Really good.. But when he fires the gun, it looks like the gun has No real feel to it.. No recoil, Like theres no power or something.. Also with it coming out the same days as LBP and BioShock, Graphics alone wont be enough to sway me away from LBP or Bio

Time_Is_On_My_Side5718d ago

What makes me laugh the most about your comment is, "Looks Really good.. But when he fires the gun, it looks like the gun has No real feel to it.." I have no idea how you know how the game feels by just looking at a video. It's like me watching a military documentary on Discovery channel and saying those guns have no real feel to them.

There is a big difference between watching something compared to when you actually do something. Another good example, watching track & field.

Statix5719d ago

I don't care what NOBODY says. This is MY pick for GotY. Nothing else in the offing seems to offer anything close to what this will offer.

Rofflecopter5719d ago

i would say that resistance 2, gears 2, and killzone 2 all offer more. dont get me wrong, i played and loved the first farcry, but i think that many games coming within 6 months time may offer much more.

RememberThe3575719d ago

But I think this year doesn't really have a stand out game (barring LBP). I'm looking foreword to Mirrors Edge but not the extent I'm looking foreword to Killzone 2 or or GoW 3. To be honest it's nice to see someone genuinely exited for a game.

Statix5718d ago (Edited 5718d ago )

Resistance 2, and possibly Killzone 2, will offer more in terms of multiplayer support. But in terms of single player, neither of those games will have the same kind of richness, quality, and depth of single campaign gameplay (estimated length of 40-50 hours on first playthrough), along with a seemingly very original and inspired story (i.e., NOT ANOTHER SCI-FI FPS IN SPACE).

For my money, anyone looking for a deep single player FPS experience, with a wide open, explorable world, that lasts around 4x longer than the estimated 10-12 hours of, say, a mostly linearity-driven KZ2, needs to get this game. Having looked into everything about Far Cry 2, I don't have a single doubt in my mind as to its overall quality and awesomeness. As a seasoned FPS gamer, it's the most unique/original FPS title I have seen in a long, long time.

TheIneffableBob5718d ago

Far Cry 2 GOTY, lol.

Be serious now. There's no way Far Cry 2 will be getting a GOTY award. I doubt it'll even receive a nomination.

Statix5718d ago

In no way did I say nor do I think that Far Cry 2 will get GotY. I'm saying that in my personal view, it DESERVES to win GotY. However, for several reasons, one of which being lack of rabid fanboy hype, it will not win GotY. Which is a damn shame to me, because FC2 is shaping up to be one of the most memorable FPS experiences ever.

plain rice5718d ago

Farcry 3 and literally thats it! lol

GamingSinceForever401d ago (Edited 401d ago )

I recently tried 3 for the first time but the frame rate was a turnoff.

I liked 5 and 6 though.

banger88400d ago

If you have a Series X or S, the Xbox 360 version runs at 60 fps with fps boost. It's a shame the remaster doesn't.

isarai402d ago

2 and 3, pretty much the only ones i really enjoyed. 1 was amazing for the time but aged quite poorly. 4 has the elephant gun, all i can praise from any entry after 3 lol

cooperdnizzle401d ago

Ummmm 3 than stop.

Okay maybe two as well. But yeah probably 3 and then move on.

JEECE401d ago (Edited 401d ago )

Far Cry 2. People constantly rant about games now being too easy, holding your hand, having too many unnecessary RPG-lite leveling features, etc. People specifically complain about open world games being too focused on tons of collectibles and "checkmarks" that just waste time.

Far Cry 2 is an answer to all of those complaints. It was made by Ubisoft before they fell into all the traps discussed above (and before they started inserting towers into their games to defog the map). It has respawning enemies, weapons that degrade, and the collectible diamonds are very useful in the game (which you find in a similar way to the way you find shrines in BOTW with a radar system). The map you have is an in game item you pull out while playing, not a pause menu that is unnecessarily detailed. Also the enemy AI and physics are much better than later entries in the series.

It has a mixed reputation because people at the time said it was too hard, the weapon degradation was annoying, and then respawning enemies were annoying. FC2 came out in 2008, so this was before games like Dark Souls and BOTW had come out and made it cool to like these types of features.

XbladeTeddy400d ago

Far Cry 2, the one with the AI that find you through walls and trees, can one shot you from a mile away and have 100% accuracy? That was frustrating not fun because cheap AI.

JEECE400d ago (Edited 400d ago )

Uhh, I mean, it isn't one of these games where once the enemies have detected you they will magically forget you exist because you walked behind a wall or went into a bush. And yeah the AI isn't stormtrooper level accuracy. Again, these are positives, not negatives to me.

To be fair, I'm really directing this at the people most critical of "Modern Ubisoft" or "Modern Open World" design elements. Like the type of people who fawned all over Elden Ring because it had a clean UI because they are so burnt out by the "checkbox" type of open world design.

If you like those types of games, then a later FC game like 3 and especially 4-5 would be more your style.

Beyond: Two Souls on PS3 can compete with modern day graphics.

SonyStyled448d ago (Edited 448d ago )

Same as Killzone 2 and 3, uncharted 2 and 3, Infamous 2, Heavy Rain, Resistance 3

jasonismoney448d ago

I wish this was entirely true, but you might want to load up Killzone 2 and Resistance 3 again.

SonyStyled448d ago

@jason I watched some gameplay videos of KZ2 and R3 on my full screen. They are on par or succeed graphically to the first person shooters mentioned in the article that also launched on the seventh generation of consoles. Try the same and see what you think

cthulhucultist447d ago

Killzone 3 was super impressive! I could not believe the graphics back then as I was regularly pausing the game to stand in awe looking at the surroundings! Resistance however did not impress me that much. Heavy rain is also another amazing graphically speaking game. It almost felt next gen

Fist4achin448d ago

I always thought the first 3 Gears of War games looked great and still hold up for today.

SonyStyled448d ago

They did for their day. I recently played gears judgement with on the 360 and the draw distance was so blurry. The characters up close look great though

JEECE448d ago

Far Cry 2 was awesome. In addition to having demonstrably better physics and AI than later games in the series, it had a lot of design decisions that, criticized at the time, have since been praised in games like BOTW and Dark Souls.

iNcRiMiNaTi448d ago

It might not be super amazing by today's standard but I thought Mgs3 looked really good

JEECE448d ago

In terms of art style it still holds up.

Far Cry 2 where your guns never ever jammed until you got into a gunfight is their best? I disagree.

MIDGETonSTILTS17570d ago

I liked 3 more.

The malaria angle was more annoying than immersive.

And, the enemy AI had too good of eyesight to allow any stealth. They’d spot you a literal half mile away, I hated it.

lonewolf10570d ago

Yeah, some weird mechanics for sure, some did really enjoy it, I certainly didn't.

bloop569d ago (Edited 569d ago )

The map was designed badly and an absolute pain to navigate from what I can remember too. You ended up having to go to the same few places all the time and there was a huge inaccessible area between them that you had to go around.

It definitely had the best physics system of the entire franchise, but a lot of the mechanics took the enjoyment out of it.

LordoftheCritics570d ago

It was fun for its time but a bunch of those systems today won't survive a launch weekend.

Profchaos570d ago

I'd say it was their most ambitious and had the best setting to date next to the original island.

But gameplay wise it was clunky and maybe it was released to early if the teams had modern systems to build it on the game would have been much better less corridors more open and less gaurd outposts that auto regen

Knushwood Butt570d ago

How do you use guns when not in a gunfight? Shooting trees?

lonewolf10569d ago

Yes and you could do that for hours in FC2 with a gun and it wouldn't jam, not hard to grasp is it.

Knushwood Butt569d ago

I see.

I haven't spent hours shooting trees.

I must try it.

Love Far Cry 2 on Infamous difficulty.

Hikoran570d ago

This should be an opinion piece. Not news.

Gwiz570d ago

Blood Dragon is much better.

Pedrof570d ago

Far Cry 2 may certainly not be the most "fun" game in the series but from a narrative standpoint it definitely is the most interesting of the bunch. FC2 couldn't be further away from the pointless fragfests that the following episodes turned out to be.
