Kratos to appear as PS3 exclusive SCIV character

According to the rumor mill in the August Issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, Kratos, God of Soul, is to appear as a PS3 exclusive character in Soul Calibur IV.

The magazine states that Kratos will be the next PS3 character revealed, so if the rumor is in fact true, we should be seeing something soon. Also, this will be the first look at Kratos on next gen hardware, and possibly a first glimpse at what to expect from God of War III. Obviously if Kratos appears in SCIV, Namco has cut some deal with Sony, and could be sharing actual assets or character concepts from the upcoming PS3 exclusive.

TheHater5778d ago

I was talking to my friend about this they other day. It look like it might be a possibility after all. Can't wait to kick major ass with Kratos.

Condoleezza Rice5778d ago

A God will always triumph over a Ninja.

ScentlessApprentice75778d ago

There is going to be some major kick-a$$age here if this turns out to be fact. I remember reading that Darth Vader was going to be on the PS3 version of Soul Caliber IV and Yoda was to be appearing in the xbox version. So if all this is still true, so the PS3 version is going to have two exclusive characters or what?

Darth Vader is a slow geezer. Kratos would make him kiss his own a$$.

callahan095778d ago

O wow! If this is true, then I definitely have to go with the PS3 version of the game. Kratos rocks.

zypher5778d ago

the only thing is, Ryu is already in Dead or Alive, which is a rival to pretty much every Namco fighter. i don't see Tecmo allowing Namco and Microsoft to use one of their main characters to basically advertise for the rival game. but i guess in this day and age, anything's possible.

still, you really can't get any better than Kratos in Soul Calibur. he would probably trump even Link as the best exclusive character to the franchise.

Amanosenpai5778d ago

LOLS on Kratos... ill get the 360 version

YODA FTW...

spandexxking5778d ago

@ 1.4 & 1.1
plus ryu isnt xbox exclusive hes on sigma. it would be more fitting to have master chief that would get the xbox fans excited! but seriously kratos that would be awesome!

Tidus115778d ago

Another good reason to get SCIV lol

gaffyh5778d ago

I guess this is another reason to opt for the PS3 version rather than the 360 version.

XBOX 3605778d ago (Edited 5778d ago )

@1.5

Kratos + Darth Vadar > Yoda + 9,001.

It's like the ultimate combination of win.

Isaac5778d ago

"1.1 - Kratos for Ps3,possibly Ryu Hyabusa for the 360 version?
A God will always triumph over a Ninja. "

Uh, no. Ryu has appeared on Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and Ryu is a character that belongs in the Dead or Alive series, which competes with Soul Calibur and Tekken. Neither Namco nor Microsoft would have Tecmo's permission. If Microsoft wants exclusive characters they should use their own IP, but not master queen. Killer Instinct has tons of characters that could appear on Soul Calibur, including Jago, Fulgore and Spinal.

Diugu5778d ago

Kratos is one of my favorite characters of all times (gaming or non gaming characters) and I dont want to see it get abused (mario style).

Also.. I think he would own the other characters so easily that it wouldnt even be fun. I mean.. Kratos is Kratos and not even Vader, as much as I love the character, has got nothing on him, so imagine the rest.

Mr_cheese5778d ago

Sony just keep on surprising me latterly! The ps3 seems to be coming into full steam wont be long now till its up in the records with its ancestors

Homicide5778d ago

Thats pretty awesome. The PS3 version just got better.

I LOVE my xbox5778d ago

kratos will look better in 360 graphics

/sarcasm

TruthBTold5778d ago

but if Kratos is a coming, Im a buying

ThanatosDMC5778d ago

What's Kratos gonna use? Those blades of his or the big sword of Hermes?

thePatriot5778d ago (Edited 5778d ago )

It would totally throw balance of the game out the window. Vader stabs Cratos with a lightsaber will onlby piss him off>Cratos rips his helmet off and beats him to death with it. and I hope all the ladies wear some metal panties (not like it will help) becauze one of his finishing moves could just be bending them over and f'ng their brains out.
@ thanados. as a handicap he wont use nothing. he will stare at his oponents untill they kill them selves. he might use his di*k if the guy is wearing armor.
pardon my language but thats just god of war for you

That would be sick and would actually makes sense over using the Star Wars characters..but coming from PSU, the place that said GT5 Prologue would have damage confirmed, I'm taking this rumor lightly

PirateThom5778d ago

Err... Damage is confirmed for GT5P, the devs themselves said they were going to hopefully impliment it by the end of the year.

AznSniper5778d ago

Well this is coming from EGM not exactly from PSU. PSU was just quick to report on it. I have the magazine now, and the Quartermann rumor is in there.

Clinton5145778d ago (Edited 5778d ago )

They rarely credit where they take their info from.

Justin Pinter below:
When you go around sifting through various forums and sites for news and then take other people's finding to put into your articles, that's pretty much a good way of disrespecting these people. But whatever, it reflects poorly upon you guys in the end, so do as you please.

edit: good stuff on updating the article. See it doesn't hurt anyone. You still have your regular readers and everyone is happy. The end.

Jpinter5778d ago

Why would PSU need to source neogaf, when the info comes from EGM? The article sources the magazine for the rumor.

Marceles5778d ago

Heh wow...yeah PSU didn't give credit to anything on that one, it kinda came up and bit them in the ass at the end of it all. If you search "PSU gran turismo 5 prologue damage" on Yahoo, there's tons of other gaming sites quoting PSU for bringing damage to everyone's attention and then changing their preview showing that they were only presuming features. PSU went as far to say they saw the damage lol...anyways, Kratos would be huge for SCIV...I already have it on my must-buy list.

Clinton5145778d ago

I've seen many "previews" and "hands-on sessions" which they blatantly ripped from other sites. It's one thing to make a generic preview but another to twist around someone else's real experience with a game, especially when they haven't even had hands-on sessions with certain games.

Fishy Fingers5778d ago

@AznSniper

Upload Killzone 2 scans please :)

Jpinter5778d ago (Edited 5778d ago )

@ Clinton514 and Marceles

Neogaf is now sourced in the article. As for the GT 5 Prologue thing... The person who wrote the supposed hands on was fired shortly after. Not much we can do when our writers are spread out across the globe. We are not like IGN or 1up and have offices to meet in. We had to trust his preview in that he actually played the game. Yes, it was our bad, and we have taken a beating for it.

As for all of my hands on previews. They are legit. I have attended all of the press events held for those titles.

barom5778d ago

Quarterman is the shizzle. He's usually right (though he's been wrong too). So I'm very hopeful. He's probably the most reliable rumor breaker out there.

Marceles5778d ago (Edited 5778d ago )

Yeah, no disrespect Jpinter...glad that guy is out of there. I definitely support the Playstation movement...it's just everyone knows the last thing we need in the PS community is more rumors...we've seen enough this gen, and that one incident stood out in my mind. But I'm back at trusting your website...thanks for legitimizing it, because I've honestly never went back to PSU after the GT5 thing went down.

<I wonder if he'll constantly be using the Blades of Chaos!?)

Ri0tSquad5778d ago (Edited 5778d ago )

Damn, I hope this happens.

Looks like PSU forgot to put their source in.

Soul Calibur IV - 15 Years of Soul

Soul Calibur IV launched worldwide 15 years ago, bringing with it the best performance of the series to date.

Terry_B263d ago

Hell no. It was the start of the downfall (SCV) of the series. Huge downstep from the giant SCIII

purple101263d ago

Switched to unreal engine. Ruined it.

Yi-Long262d ago (Edited 262d ago )

Used to love this series, probably my favorite 3D fighter, perhaps together with the now also dead Dead or Alive (2-3-4), but as with so many games in the fighting genre, their short-term greed (season passes) has made me lose all interest, sadly …

sagapo262d ago

Yeah, I remember playing Soul Caliber on my dreamcast at the time, that was insane!

sosro262d ago (Edited 262d ago )

the first three are much better games.

Walweeze262d ago

Loved Number 2 and 3( loved all the solo modes like chronicle of the sword ) so was super hyped when 4 came out but the lack of single player content was disappointing. Still love soul calibur to this day though

DarXyde261d ago

2 was definitely the golden era of Soul Calibur for me. I was a bit conflicted about it at times because there were 3 different versions (I liked the PS2 version for controls, I liked playing as Spawn the most, and I thought the addition of Link was really awesome). Even so, the single player content was outstanding. Easily the most fun I've had with a fighting game, followed closely by Tekken 5's single player modes

In defence of Soul Calibur 4's horrible Star Wars guest characters

From VG247: "Link suits the world of Soul Calibur. The elf-like little twink fit into the roster as well as any sword-wielding fantasy hero could – facing off against the likes of the machiavellian Frenchman Raphael, the inhuman hellspawn Astaroth, or the horny gimp Voldo, the Legend of Zelda guest character fits right in. Weaponry, aesthetic, move set… all of it gels with Soul Calibur’s camp high fantasy world – even when you’re pulling massive bombs out of God-knows-where and hurling them across the stage. It just fits.

You know what doesn’t fit, though? Lightsabers. No amount of sci-fi reasoning, magic, or blaming it on wizards can make Yoda, Darth Vader, and (eurgh) Starkiller fit in the war-torn European and Silk Road settings of Soul Calibur. It just doesn’t track. Why Bandai Namco decided to shoehorn the trio of characters into the fourth Soul Calibur game, then, remains a mystery; it’s damaging to both brands, it makes no sense canonically, and – more than anything else – it’s just all a bit tacky (or should that be Taki?)"

Ranking The Soulcalibur Games From Worst To Best

Bandai Namco's other premier fighting game series, Soulcalibur, has been around for over 25 years, but what game is the best?

Really loved Soulcalibur on Dreamcast. Truly blew all competition away back then when it came to graphics and fluidity, and I liked the roster and arenas.

Haven’t bothered with the newest release because sadly fighting games these days have become too expensive. They’ll release a base-game, then add all the interesting characters through expensive season passes, so unless there’s a Complete Edition released (and if I’m still interested in the game by then), I’m better off just shrugging my shoulders and skipping it completely.

The direction the fighting game genre has picked for itself means it will now only appeal and sell to the hardcore fans of the genre, while the mainstream gamers will spend their money elsewhere.

FinalFantasyFanatic989d ago

I played Soul Calibur 2 on the PS2, it was great and I got pretty good at it, decimated most of my friends at that game. I recently got VI on the PS4 and it just doesn't have the same magic, plus it seems to have stuffed some extra mechanics in there that just complicate it too much for me, although I really do agree they're too expensive, I've always wanted to get all the DLC characters for Central Fiction, but it's way too expensive.

Kaze88989d ago

I prefer SC VI to the SC III. SC II had a really fast pace for a fighting game, when new SC III bursted into the scene it felt sluggish when compared to the second one. On SC VI they brought back the quicker pace of the game, but not as much on SC II, though I think it was a good decision. I wish they would go the MK11 route with their games, but we all know that Bandai Namco is not interested, they hardly gave the devs time and money to support SC VI.
