FW 2.40 Is NOT Coming June 10th

We normally report good news, but its unfortunate that right now I am here to report BAD news.

I have just received word that the elusive, and anticipated firmware update 2.40 for the PlayStation 3 console, will NOT be available for update tomorrow.

I was also told its TRUE that the debug version did have some bugs. Exactly what bugs they are encountering is still unknown.

Rest assured that FW 2.40 is INDEED on its way and all the features we have leaked will be IN the update.

PlayStation LifeStyle will do our best to bring you the exact release date.

We will keep you updated, if any we receive any further information…

Well hopefully next week on the 18th. I don't believe those guys on Neogaf because they were regular members, even if what they said was true and that they actually saw 2.40, they don't know how long its going to take sony to fix the problems. All they said was it might not come until July because of the bugs they saw but they didn't say that sony told them not until july they were just speculating, which makes me think it will come june 18th.

Next week will be huge, Tuesday=Spore Creature Creator demo, and Wednesday=Firmware 2.40

this kid spreads a rumor around about a FW release because he has "insider" info, we all praise him because he supposedly knows everything....

This makes it 100% clear that there is no "Insider" info and there never will be.

2.40 is coming out soon no doubt, but don't believe anybody who tells you they know exactly when it comes out.

The original poster of the insider information always caveated his info with the line that it was subject to change. In a world where you want information first, you are going to get some misinformation.

I actually wanted to thank Sev1512 for posting a story admitting there was some wrong information out there. Seriously, how often do you see this? Most will put out rumors, generate traffic then slip into the background.

The whole July rumor started on NeoGaf. I know another source that said it was definitely coming in June. He said he would be surprised if we weren't staring at in-game XMB the day MGS4 came out. If were not then it should come soon after its release.

well we know it that its coming sooner than expected with in-game XMB. we seen it leaked from a debug unit and from a Bioshock dev. even if its not coming this week or next week, we should at least thank sev for breaking the news for us that this is coming very soon and not some time in october. so PS owners, hold your horses, let them fix the bugs, thats the only issue thats left to fix.

as i said before, we at least know its coming, we know this because we seen the evidence:

-3 leaked Videos (the xmb while bioshock in game, and the most recent video with the debug unit while playing Ridge Racer 7)

-The Main SCEA employees not debunking the FW 2.4 rumor on the PS Blog, yet deflecting to answer the rumor to their fans and consumers

-The Developers and insiders on Neo-Gaf confirming that FW 2.4 is on the way and that its already in their Debug unit

seriously, lets not worry about these things right now, as far as we know it is going to get confirmed soon between now and E3, Especially when the firmware has bugs on it while would interfere with the gameplay, unless you guys want that and start complaining about that. the thing we should mostly worry about is MGS4 and the 80gb bundle coming up this thursday. people who are willing to go next-gen or adding a new nex-gen console to their A/V rack should be worrying about this bundle now since its going to be in demand for a while.

It's coming don't worry, a little delay is really no big deal... I for one don't even care about XMB because I know I will hardly use it, and it will not be as big as people think it will be... because it still will not be the best way to hook up with friends...

They really needed to add much more... to make it better then the way Xbox 360 has done it, which is as of right now the best way to hook up with friends and Play online...

Main reason I bought COD4 on 360 instead of PS3 that and the no-rumble support..

So don't get too excited Sony will still have a long way to go even after XMB comes out, mark my words you will see. (but I have faith they will get it right)

Think about it if it had a problem with something and no one can play MGS4 because it messed up their system then that would be bad news. Dont listen to and believe anything u read on the internet about in-game xmb coming or firmwares unless its coming from the official playstation site.

2.4 is most likely not coming until mid July so dont hold your breaths every week. Sev honestly doesnt know what hes talking about or have a good source, either 1. I knew it wasnt coming on the 10th and its not on the 12th and its not on the 18th. When it comes we will know because every1 will be dling it, and not a day sooner. Next time you see an article saying its rumored to come on this date just ignore it and keep urself from getting hyped up for no reason.

When copying text from the source article make sure you read over the text and edit it if necessary. A good example is when a site writes “We” or “I” , this should then be replaced with the sites name.

Example:
An article on Gamespot reads “ We take a closer look at MotorStorm for the PS3”
When posting this article on N4G it should be edited to “Gamespot takes a closer look at MotorStorm for the PS3”

This will only take a few seconds and the news post will make much more sense to the N4G readers.

I just said about the release date of firmwares. THATS IT. And i have good reason.

Unless you can prove me wrong in my claim that no one has ever predicted the true release date for any FW, PSP or PS3, then i'll gladly keep my mouth shut about this.

So when sites claim they "know without much doubt" that FW is coming at "that" time...it should always be taken with a grain of salt.
