Gamepro Kills MGS4 90 Minute Cut-scene Rumor

A rumor was flying around the internet that MGS4 would have 90 minute cut-scenes. Well a Gamepro editor says this rumor is false.

"I've beat the game twice, and am the author of the forthcoming [GamePro] review," Shuman said. "Ninety-minute-long cinemas in MGS4 sounds like an exaggeration. Like the other MGS games, MGS4 definitely has a cinematic quality. And yes, some of the cut-scenes in the game are elaborate and occasionally lengthy. But not a one, to my recollection, even approaches 90 minutes."

I really don't mind long cut scenes. MGS series have the best cut scenes and i enjoy watching them just as much as i love playing. I actually don't remember any long cut scenes in the previous series because i was consistently entertained. I never felt the need to skip it or anything like that

I have a very very low tolerance for cut scenes. Any game that has lame cut scenes gets skipped. I have NEVER skipped an MGS cut scene because they simply aren't boring. The look good, sound good and are as entertaining as most movies

GT5P killed x360 in europe. You wll never find x360 HW /SW in any eu charts except UK. even in UK PS3 is just 500k shy off x360's total base.

GT5P has outsold Halo3/GEARS/any x360 game in europe within 1 month of its release there.

x360 premium has just 20 gig HDDD haahha.

since all of PS3 skus have HDD by default we can install /uininstall games as many times as we wish. Unlike GARBAGE BOX 360 games PS3 games dont have POP INS/LONG LOADING TIMES/SCREEN TEARING and not to mention no x360 game runs at 60 fps SOLID

On the other hand we have 5 games that not only runs at 1080p native but at SOLID 60fps

That whole 90 minute cutscene thing was definantly exaggerated. I mean, who in the world would put a 90 minute cutscene in a game. I've sat through cutscenes that were around 20+ minutes before in a MGS game, but that's about it. Sometimes you just get so caught up in the cutscenes in a MGS game that you just loose track of time and don't even realize how much time has passed.

Lengthy cutscene's is just a part of Metal Gear Solid games and anyone that's played a MGS game wouldn't really care if the game has long cutscenes.

That whole "cinematic experience" is just one of the reasons why Kojima selected MGS4 as a PS3 exclusive and he thought that the PS3 could provide the best cinematic experience for the game.

just picked up the first one at Gamestop and it had a scratch about 8 hours in the game at the beginning of a cut scene and froze, i freaked, i know you can skip cut scenes but they are important for the story, luckily i was with in their 7 day return policy so i gots me a different one, just hope this one doesn't skip or freeze during a cut scene. back on track, i wouldn't have mind a long cut scene for this game, i figure one would be needed to completely answer some plot questions they have.

Mr_Kuwabara, is so correct regarding Squaresoft Xenogears. That game had major long drag on cutscenes that weren't skippable. After a while it felt like there were cutscenes just to have a cutscenes. I enjoyed it up to a certain point where I just struggled to stay awake during those hot summer afternoons. I lost all interest and never got around to beating that cool game. This was one of my fear with MGS4 when I saw the early article about 90 min cutscenes reminding me of Xenogears. I'm sure the cutscenes won't even get anywhere near 90 minutes, but never know with MGS background. Hoping the pause button worked otherwise I'd miss portion of the story sequence. Now I'm somewhat relieved from this article. I'm definitely going to purchase MGS4 within it's first week release period.

Xenogears' scenes were informative and well paced, Xenosaga's cutscenes make me want to skip them due to the mediocre voice acting and pacing but I don't out of fear of missing something important. Funny thing is we were discussing this last night when I was playing XS2.

hehe I've cried in every MGS game. At some point I have. When Gray Fox died in MGS I cried my ass off, at the end of MGS2 I cried out of confusion (don't worry, I've replayed the game 6 times so I fully comprehend the story now)and in MGS3 I cried in the end when Boss cried (yup I felt his pain). I will most defenantly cry in this game as well.

As for the cutscenes, I'm kinda dissapointed too. Well well, you can't have it all I guess.

Even with the stylish cut-scenes of Metal Gear, i think a 90 min cut-scene could`ve been stretching it too for. I`m sure Kojima could`ve managed to make it cool though, but a 90 min cut-scene is a lot for any game to pull off without it getting boring.

Some interactivity is going to be in MGS4`s cut-scenes like in MGS3 if i`m not mistaken, to give different angles and trigger other stuff like Snake`s memories etc, so you couldn`t be entirely still during them, even if there was in fact one at 90 mins.

I doubt i will be counting the mins in MGS4 when i`m playing it anyways, as i`ll probably be to wrapped up in the story and experience. That`s what makes MGS-games so well. Great gameplay, cut-scenes and story, which actually makes you want to watch cut-scenes in the game, because they can actually enhance the experience. No small feat alone, and one that other games hardly manage.

Look at mass effect, pretty plain if it wasnt for the interactive cutscenes. In comparison to oblivian Mass effect was tiny yet thank god it had story.But the one of the objectives to the game was to get to the cutscenes and give your imput on it. I think there is a bit of a misconstrued thought going on here. Maybe the original review meant the TOTAL length of cut scenes equal a time of 90 minutes, which to me, sounds pretty realistic for a video game. Although, in some ways for a MGS game that would seem low I suppose. Not sure but I would like a warning before watching that 90 minute cut scene if it exists. If anything, it's the final cut at the end of the game. Hopefully we get a message from Ocelot or some crap at the end like in every game, my actual guess is probably Sunny.
