paul_war...the game is still not releasing for another week. It's not like GTA or MGS4 where it will sell a million copies the first day. It's a pretty big release but not a critically acclaimed sequel, so it's not that surprising that we haven't seen any reviews for it yet. We will probably see some reviews star to trickle in by the end of the week, which I am looking forward to because the reviews will probably determine whether I pick up the game or not.

After playing the Haze demo I had no desire to ever play that game again. The gameplay was mediocre, the graphics were less then impressive, and the game just failed to impress me. I imagine a lot of people who never had a PC or 360 might find some fun in it because good shooters for them are few and far between, but from the demo I can see that Haze is just another cookie cutter shooter. If I run out of things to play I might give it a rent, but buying this game is out of the question.

It seemed like the haze pr team were actually trying to lower the pr effort... I'm guessing ubisoft is going to push it though...It's free radical, concept's cool. all it's really missing is mind blowing graphics... I bet this would have been a superhit hyped massive game if the graphics were they could have been. I played the demo and it was well built. I tried to look for where they could have optimized it, like every game needs... and all I could find is that it needs to be a little racier...but I tell you what, the controls for me are much more natural then all the fps's out there...I wish it's sprinting was as quick as Cod4...

Thats how i play all games now a days i skip the easy and normal settings. The AI is soo smart and while the graphics arent that i do remeber them saying that the demo on the PS store was a build from november and the latest screens really show that. either way i'm picking it up in a week or so, really good game and the nectar thing became like crack for me i couldn't get passed it without the nectar. LOL!!!

I especially liked how the friendly AI was when they overdosed ^^ it was pretty cool. i'm part of that minority who loves haze

The console ports of The Orange Box were pretty bad. I'm surprised it got even a 34 out of 40.

Regardless of personal preference, the console versions still scored very well in the reviews, especially the 360 version. Hence my slight surprise here.

Yeah, the PC version of The Orange Box is amazing. I've put over 200 hours into Team Fortress 2 and have replayed Episode Two 4 times.

But the 360 version of TOB is really not that good.

I played a few minutes of the demo last night - I was impressed by the controls and fluidity of gameplay. I haven't really been excited for this game, but I'm more likely to check it out after playing a bit of the demo. It's too bad it comes out between GTAIV And MGS4 as I probably won't have time to play it when it comes out - I think I'll be lucky to finish GTA by the time MGS comes out!

The demo sucked balls imo, removed it from my buy listafter playing it
(Yea the full version might be ok, but the part of the game they chose for the demo showed pretty much nothing, deciding on the demo alone the game has no story and is pretty much an average shooter).
But if scores like this continue i might consider it again :)

Single player demo was ho-hum. Had my bro download it, too, and we played together on hard difficulty. Upped the fun by like 5 or something. That's where the games strength is going to be, not relying on ai controlled teammates.

I would think putting out an old build of a demo does more harm than good. Demos have a way of turning me off to games I'm interested in, rather than the other way around. Better to just not put one out in that case.

You cant tell if it has story by a demo man, you should know that. The story is the one thing I've been looking forward to. The whole switching sides mid game should be nice. The little things like the captain of the drop ship disappeared when he died. You could hear screams in the village the Mantle drop ships blew up but you didn't see any bodies, they "tell" you it's just "animal" screams!?!

The story was definitely there, I guess I just payed more attention than just running and gunning...... Maybe you should replay it.

I'd say the complete opposite. Playing Orange Box felt like a very generic shooter. If anything, i'd be surprised if Orange Box got better scores than Haze if it came out afterwards. Haze owns, and there's basically no logic in you judging it before you play the real game. You don't know the story, or any twists or anything in the game. The gameplay also owns, from what I saw, much better than Orange Box. Take your douchebag remarks, and place some logic behind it.

Haze itself though, has some potential for me. I enjoyed the demo, for me the combat seemed fluid, the guns satisfying and the nectre stuff more than a cheap gimick. Impossible to judge the worth of an entire game based on the demo, but the fluidity of play did remind me of Free Radical games of old, and made me think I'll probably enjoy the full game.

I have a feeling I'll still rate orange box above it, but hard to know till I've played the full title...

the gravity gun has to be one of the best weapons ever made in an fps and the puzzles you had to solve with it. most fps games can't even be bothered with simple switches, let alone having to use your brain do figure out a puzzle.

everyone has their opinion. it is funny how everyone is suddenly thinking this game is going to be good because it got good scores. GTA got good scores, yet everyone started crapping on it after they had played it and said it didn't deserve the scores it got.

MGS4? I mean im being honest the demo was pretty sorry. Maybe they got to play another level which was funner but that first level for co-op was short and wasnt all that fun to me. I don't know what ppl saw in this game, I thought the demo was garbage. It was a mediocre shooter drowning in a sea of mediocre shooters. The game did nothing to set itself apart from the dozens of other shooters that do nothing to innovate. The weapons were boring. Doesn't really feel like you're firing a gun.

W/O nectar it would be impossible to make out the enemies. W/O you're bright yellow jumpsuit it would be impossible to make out your fellow troopers. Nectar is a gimmick, really doesn't enhance gameplay.

I'm disappointed in Free Radical. This leaves me w/ little hope for Timeplitters.

Everytime I see "Famitsu" score almost like, I don't know who reviewed these games, all we do is go by, is some score, which is suppose to be of high standard.

Western reviewers are more in tune with the "shooters" genre. Nothing against "Famitsu" really. For obvious reasons, I look closely at their Jrpg scores..maybe I'm being biased.

I'll wait for other reviews. Seems like everyone keep asking the same question, what did they like or didn't like..because all we have in front of us is just numbers.

I know its off topic, but i was just watching that 720 cam footage of KZ2(gamersyde). Is it just me or does that game have some serious anti-aliasing going on? The aa looks comparable to those screens of Haze (ahh back on topic) that we all swore must have been touched up. I kept pausing to look for jaggies and i swear there isnt one in the entire video. And that crap about bad textures, i dont know where thats coming from.

Got to get this one. The nectar concept is pretty cool. Makes this shooter have a more unique quality to it. Not just point and shoot. The story should be intense. It would not be fare to judge the whole game by a small demo. Heavenly Sword was much shorter but ended up being a great game.

Considering this is a PS3 Exclusive they better have the Resolution up to 720p by the time it comes out!
As all of us are spoiled and will be VERY accustomed to seeing native 720p and 1080p thanks to Kojima and Polyphony etc. on our HDTV's.

Free Radical confirmed on three speach that the PSN demo was first shown at Sony's Gamers Day in May 2007...that was the first time it was publically played...and it wasn't changed since...

the demo was actually supposed to hit the Store october, but was delayed with the game obviously...but FR did say they didn't 'update' the visuals of the demo, only the final game...the only work the demo recieved was for network debugging...

sorry but i will have to take this review with a pinch of salt and wait to see more reviews out.although i dont base my games buying on reviews only,demos and ingame footage is a factor,and judging it by that i see it as an average shooter which will get no better than a metacritic score of 8-8.5 and it seems a long way from being a AAA title

I'm a 360 owner, so I've had my fill of shooters...too many times over now...

I'm just curious why PS3 owners jump on any FPS like it's the second coming of Christ? I mean, Haze looks really really ugly (all the yellow, personal opinion), and the voice work doesn't seem that great, not to mention the graphics seem very last gen. I don't know.

I think if I were a PS3 owner I'd wait it out for Killzone 2 or Resistance 2, hopefully they would fulfill the promise, but I think Haze looks incredibly boring. Again this is just my opinion.

As for the Orange Box being beaten out by Haze...I think that's bullocks.

as for Haze? it was made by Free Radical. Free Radical makes good games. end of story.

just because they don't have "Konami," "Square-Enix," "Bioware," "Bungie", or "Polyphony Digital," type hype to their name, doesn't mean they don't make good, even GREAT games. it just means they've been overlooked for the umpteenth version of Madden, or the latest licensed bullsh*t from EA or Activision.

Free Radical was founded by designers who worked on Goldeneye on the N64 and Perfect Dark on the N64. Free Radical was founded by former Rare developers (is it a coincidence that since those people left, Rare's track record has been spotty, at best? Free Radical created the excellent TimeSplitters series, and one of my favorite games of all time, "Second Sight" (which was criminally overlooked, due to it's release window, and little to no marketing. the game has a GREAT story, and the gameplay is a lot of fun, if not perfect. it's on the PS2 and X Box, and i bought it for $9.99 NEW, because it sold so horribly. shame, really).

i played, and enjoyed the single player of the Haze demo. the framerate was smooth. the controls were smooth, and the graphics were good. not amazing, or mind-blowing, but really good. considering how often it was delayed, i wasn't surprised that the visuals would be considered "dated." in either case, the gameplay was smooth, and pretty hectic.

i'm not expecting Haze to break any FPS molds. i'm expecting Haze to have a good story (something Free Radical excels at), smooth as silk controls (TimeSplitters was a PS2 launch title, and the ONLY one that ran at a consistent 30fps back then. quite a feet, really. most, if not all, Free Radical games have rock-solid framerates), and some fun gameplay.

i don't require every game ever released to be revolutionary. that's silly and unreasonable. i'm just looking for a nice, fun diversion now that i've beaten GTAIV, and while i await MGS4. Haze coming next Tuesday is the perfect stop-gap between the two mega-titles.

I agree most with your "every game does not have to be revolutionary" statement. I think a lot of people get hung up on the whole revolutionary bit.

I too was a bit dissapointed with the demo, however looking back, the same could be said for Uncharted and R&C: tod on the PS3 side, and the 360 has had its fair share of game demo's where the demo was flat, but the game was great. After reading some of you stating that this is the same demo from last year, my hopes are again high for this game. It will depend on my friends though. If we all decide to get it, I am all in, I just don't want to be the guinni pig...ya know what I mean?

Same score as the Orange box? I pre-ordered it at the same time as MGS4.

The demo was a bit underwhelming, but it's a just a taste. It has coop, online multi player and a complex story. So to write it off just from that impression is foolish...

HAZE is a killer ip. I don't know why so many people were doubting this game. Now that the GREAT reviews are starting to roll in the doubters have nothing more to say. This game is great and is definitely a must purchase title for the PS3. Multiplayer will be unlike anything done before.

of HAZE will NOT be the reason I buy this. The Demo left me somewhat dissapointed. Great controls, nice gfx although they could've been better.

The biggest problem I have with this game is that awful ass voice acting. IT SUXXXXXXXXXXXXX!!!! and it makes it hard for me to take the game seriously. Like the part where you come across one of your team members whos standing on a ledge that looks to be game-wise 8 to 10 feet above your character. The guy on the ledge gives you some details and they yell back and forth like the are 60 yard away. WHAT??? I CANT HEAR YOU!!!! Its rediculous! I just laugh to keep from getting annoyed at this sad attempt.

Free Radical has had ample time to get this game right and they would have had it not been for that lousy ass voice acting. HAZE is not an AAA game and for me its a rental at best lest this be an old demo which we are unsure of at this point.

i've read too many posts by you where you say the exact same "if you had a 360..." crap. we get it- you don't like the ps3. and quit trying to act like you own a ps3- anyone who would look at your comments can clearly see what you're about so why not go to the 360 threads where you can be happy? hey luke, those haze graphics look EXACTLY LIKE HALO 3 so you should love them. but to get back on topic- i played the haze demo and found it ok, but nothing spectacular. it doesn't have unbelieveable graphics and i don't think i like the nectar concept either. it seems kinda like a gimmic. i like the idea that main char. switches sides somewhere during the game, but that isn't enough to make me buy it on day 1. this game reminded me of turok(which i didn't like at all) i wish free radical would have just went to making TS4.

uh no its not. I have played lots of diverse games in my life. I dont find portal being very fun, humourous or great. its good, but not more then that.

still dont get the cult like craziness over Portal or any of the Half Life series. Valve should just stick to making TF2 animations. Love those. And the soundtrack by Kelly Bailey is pretty good.

That Haze demo couldn't hold even the tiniest candle to Resistance.

The effects, lighting, textures, voice acting, and AI were all horrible in that Demo.

All I can say, is it better not be like that in the newer final build, or American publications will tear Haze a new asshole.

I agree that there is probably no chance that HAZE can be as good Resistance but lets let the game come out first and see before we judge it. Unless you already played it. I don't understand why people are so down on HAZE. People act like it is a Rival game on another system or something. Half of the people like it and half down it. Lets see the game first. It is an exclusive to the PS3 so at least show some love and rent it.

It's funny how things change. i remember when i was playing dozens of rpgs on my ps2 and first person shooters on my xbox. Now its the other way around. 360 has 5 Jrpgs till now, and ps3 almost zero.

If you count strategy RPG's and games so far only available in Japan, the PS3 has Disgaea 3, Record of Agarest War, Mist of Chaos, and Valkyria Chronicle. Angel Love Online and Tears to Tiara both come out soon in Japan.

If you don't speak Japanese and/or don't like strategy RPG's, you've got a good argument that the PS3 is short on RPG's.

But personally, I think the PS3's Strategy RPG lineup is superior to the 360's RPG lineup including its traditional & strategy flavors.

And there are of course more traditional RPG's on the way for PS3, like Final Fantasy XIII and Star Ocean 4, though they all do seem quite a ways away yet.

Anyway, I've got no problems with the lineup of PS3 vs. 360.

Famitsu must have only played the crap PS3 version of Orange Box. Oh well, when haze it released and sucks it will be revealed that Famitsu simply has bias against American consoles...as in if Haze were released on 360 it would have gotten lower scores.
