Exclusive GTA IV content for PS3, too

Microsoft could barely contain its glee at being able to confirm exclusive downloadable content for next year's Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV - but PS3 fans need not fear, as it seems the Sony release is also firmly in line to receive its very own dazzling additions.

According to a source close to Rockstar North, the team is working on exclusive supplemental content for both systems, which will be made available for download via Microsoft and Sony's respective online services after the game's release next year.

That still doesn't mean the ps3 won't get additional content, they just confirmed that their will be exclusive content for the 360 version. The ps3 could have exclusive content too. Plus, both systems get the game, which is what most people care about.

Where does it say that? It says there will be 2 episodes exclusive for the 360. It doesn't say anything about exclusives beyond that or that those 2 episodes will be the only extra content.

Ofcourse the PS3 can get exclusive downloadable content also, but the 2 exclusive episodes for the 360 are just for the 360.

The content for PS3 could be anything from also episode(s) to downloadable cloths, armor or vehicles.

It seems to me that these machine's are equally as good as each other, they are getting (mostly) the same games with exclusive content for each. The HD-DVD vs BLU-RAY is irrelevant. There's nothing wrong with standard DVD's and I'm not going to spend a fortune replacing them for either HD-DVD or BLU-RAY.

It reminds me of the days of MEGADRIVE & SNES, they were also equally as good as each other. The only choice was do you like Mario or Sonic best?

This will be the same with PS3 & 360. eg.
Do you like Metal Gear Solid or Halo3.
OR
Do you like Gran turismo or Forza.

I see your point about the HD-DVD vs BLU-RAY being irrelevant. But to me the Snes destroyed the Genesis in every area except in the beginning with the speed.

The SNES had a much slower processor then the Mega Drive, but it really excelled when it came to its graphics processor. It could produce 32K colors, 256 of which could be displayed on screen at the same time, and had special hardware modes that allowed for effects such as scaling, rotating and transparency. This was the SNES's strong point.

The famous Mode 7 that allows a background layer to be rotated and scaled games like Secret of Mana, F-Zero, Contra III and Super Mario Kart.

Last you had the Super FX chip, which allowed for 3D graphics to be rendered in games, upped the SNES's speed to 10.5MHz and the Super FX2 upped it to 21MHz.

All the Genesis try to do was add-ons like the 32x and the Sega CD drive. Which both of those failed miserably.

yeah, very true, I'd forgotten about the FX chip, but generally speaking it was more about which game your preffered. I think this generation will turn out to be pretty much the same.

Each has their own strengths 360 has 'live' and the PS3 looks to have the edge on GFX (when utilised properly), but again I think it will be down to which games you preffer.

well, with me it always came down to the games. despite the fact that Genesis seemed to have the inferior graphics, i never saw a reason to purchase a SNES until A Link to the Past came out. after that, i couldn't get enough of SNES (from Baseball 2020, to the original Mario Kart, to Pitfall, to Gradius, etc.), or the Genesis' Sonic, Strider, Mortal Kombat w/real blood (yeah, when you're 14 that sorta thing matters), Golden Axe, Shinobi etc. back then it was about the best of both (and in some cases, all three) worlds. now, everyone seems motivated more by political alliances to corporations.

On top of that MGS4 is coming out when PS3 probably will have an installed base of 6 million or so. While the 360 will have about 16 million, most of them getting Halo 3 easily.

Here what we don't know.
We all know that M$ paid RockStar for these exclusive content and to drop exclusivity from the PS brand. How much do you think Sony had to pay Rock Star to do the same? I guess what Sony said before about, "We don't need GTA" was not so true. The fact is that this game move systems, some people will buy the PS3 to play this game. What do you think those people will do if their favorite IP have more content on the 360? Sony knows this.
I guess it is a great time to be a 3rd developer; they are making money without even selling a single copy.

The developers are not going to spend the extra $$ to have two different games. They’re going to develop one game on a system (probably on the 360 because it’s easier to develop for) then port it over to the other systems. You have to remember that they are a business and want to maximize profit. Just because they have additional storage space for the PS3, doesn’t mean they’re going to spend all that extra time and money to fill it.

aw man, Streets of Rage 1 and 2! how could i forget about those two? i especially liked the second one, with the kid on skates (i forget what his name was). i could never get passed the egg-head dude on the original Punch Out (i think he was like the seventh opponent, or some such), but that never stopped me from playing it. then there was Double Dragon on both the Master System and the NES. the cool thing about those two games were that both versions were kinda different (the Master System's was more akin to the arcade version, whereas the NES had a version all its own). oh man Outlaw, now you've taken me waaaay back! i wish gaming now was how it used to be...all about games, with little-to-no back-and-forth bickering. now, i find myself trying to defend the Playstation from XBox fanboys, and pleading to the hordes of Playstation fanboys to chill out with the name calling and stop dogging a system they know they don't even own.

There's a Peter Moore interview where he touches on this. The exclusive 360 episodes are much different , so different it's rumored they will add hours of gameplay.
So while the PS3 will be getting downloadable content the 360 exclusive deal is much , much different.

Edit: To clarify these are two different deals. It won't be the same exact content.

This is a RUMOR. Read the article. It clearly doesn't say that Rockstar is working on episodic downoloads but they are working on downoloadable stuff. I could be clothes to download. All we know as of now, is that Rockstar has confirmed Exclusive Episodic content for the 360. I honestly don't see the same type of content coming to the ps3. Maybe, just maybe, clothes, shoes, hats, stuff like that for the ps3 version. But with that said...its still a rumor. And I seriously doubt it. We'll see sometime in 2007.

NaH! GTA was "offerd" to MS back in the day and the series caused so much drama MS turned RS down. Ill have to agree with my friend TopGamer over there. It didnt specifically say that they will have episodic content and other levels for you to play, as is the 360 version will have. I mean, the downloads could be a new car or a new weapon, thats not episodic. But I still think that there will be more PS3 selling GTA IV than XBox 360 versions just simply cause GTA has always been the PS MoneyMaker and has always been played 1st on PS systems, and has always turned out great on PS systems(not to discount the Xbox titles that look better on XBox ie. Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, COD, etc.). Im actually thinking of getting both, but that would be a waste. Do you guys think I should get the 360 version or PS3 version?

The episodic content is going to be important too. I doubt there's going to be any graphical/technological differences so it's probably going to come down to the quality of the additional content. I hope they take advantage of the PS3 hardware, but there's no real incentive for them to do so.

Keep in mind...sony didn't sell gta games. gta games sold sony systems. This time its totally different. If you are a GTA fan...you could care less which system its on. You just want the game. Its an added perk that the 360 is less expensive and is the only system to have confirmed exclusive content. Sony was the only system at the time to offer GTA. Not this time. GTA fans can now have a choice. There were over 40 million GTA fans that bought ps2's. Many just for that game. It was the best system seller sony had...But those days are gone. It should be interesting where all those GTA fans choose to play their GTA4 on. The obvious choice is the 360 for a lower price, and more value with extra exlusive content. We'll see.

Well you can get GTA 1 and GTA 2 from Rockstars website for free, they are both excellent games.
