US/Europe Metal Gear Solid 4 Won't Have Japanese Track

In the latest Kojima Productions Report podcast, producer Ryan Payton announces that MGS4 won't have voice over tracks for other languages. Says Payton:

Unfortunately because of disc space, we don't have the space to include other languages, other voice over files for the respective versions. So the Japanese version's not gonna have English VO, and the North American and European versions won't have Japanese VO.

mighty_douche5900d ago (Edited 5900d ago )

Because they didn't have space?? on a blu-ray?? that tells me the MGS is going to be MASSIVE!!!

Lionsguard5900d ago

Rubbish, they'd just have a dvd for the voices itself. Of course while playing there will be no voices but after you're done just pop in the dvd and play the track of the scenes you just saw! a bit of a pain in the ass but hey it works!

Assuming it is using a dual layered 50GB Blu Ray disc, it must mean they are using lossless compression on most materials. I really have to buy a better speaker system to take advantage of the 7.1 audio this game will offer.

Xeikon5900d ago

It will be the same as previous Metal Gears.

23% playing
77% watching

blacsheep5900d ago (Edited 5900d ago )

MGS4 for you will be

0% playing

and 99% envious

Korosuke5900d ago (Edited 5900d ago )

size doesn't matter

sonarus5900d ago

lol in my recent comments i have been rooting for 360 to get that mgs4 port but if there is no space i dunno. they could just compress it though and make it a lesser quality game cus the multi discs are a bit unrealistic. plus mgs4 could also be making use of data duplication so who knows, keep the hope up. might happen in 09.

may be 23% play and 77% watchin don't know havnt played it but it will still be 100% best game of the yr

...using a single layer 25 gig Blu-ray disc.I guess an extra language VO isn't worth going dual layer 50 gig.

mighty_douche5900d ago (Edited 5900d ago )

but isn't MGS4 rumoured to be the first game to use a dual layer already??

oh and slightly off topic, you hear they've had people working on the opening scene of over a year!! God, i cant wait for this!!

ATLRoAcH5900d ago

But if they are the agree I gave you is justified. If its 50 gigs than its huge.Someone might use a four layer one day.

Kain815900d ago

was confirmed by Kojima and that means MGS4 fill all the Space.
Holy Grail

pacman6155900d ago

it has to be a 50gig disc...resistance took almost 20gigs with about a 12-15 hour single player mode and multiplayer...MGS4..will probably clock in around 50 hours to beat assuming you dont skip through all the cutscenes...mgs3 took me around 35-40 hrs to beat i believe...GO MGS4 FTW.... and this is also off topic...but i bet FFXIII will be the first game to use a 100gb disc...anywho...day 1 purchase for me

Keowrath5900d ago

Don't get too carried away with the size of the game. Rememeber. This is Metal Gear. It's part game, part movie. It will probably have a good few hours of Hi-Def cut scenes which are going to take up a fair chunk of the disc I'd imagine. I can see the game being about the same size as the previous trilogy, maybe a little bigger but I don't think we're going to be looking at a 50 hour game by any means (Although I'll be putting way more than 50 hours into it! =) )

gambare5900d ago

Metal gear series never used FMV for the cinematics, they always have used in game graphics to make the cinematics, the size just means the huge amount of data used for the game.

Erethond5900d ago

Resistance might have filled up alot of space on the Blu-Ray, but that was because it had multiple languages. MGS4 will only have 1!

Mainman5899d ago

@ Keowrath

MGS4 cut-scenes are in-game, so it won't take as much space as pre-rendered CGI would.

I kinda woulda hoped they could store the original Japanese voice overs, though i've also gotten atached to the American localized crew. Lost Odyssey has five languages, Japanese German Italian French and English. Maybe that's too many, but FYI I have terrible memories of using the "swap" trick to get ole PS to play non-ntsc games, and subsequently falling to the "mod chip" for its similar abilities. MGS4 without Japanese voices? I'd probably still buy anyway.

hfaze5900d ago

Which is why it's GREAT that the PS3 is not region locked for games... If you want the Japanese voice-overs, grab a Japanese copy of the game and it will play fine on your US/EU/etc. console.

AngryHippo5900d ago

wow....this game must be seriously epic in every sence of the word to fill up all that space. Can't wait to take snake through his final mission. This is going to be fantastic.

tweaker5900d ago

I wouldn't care. The game in English is all I want. MGS4 FTW!!!!

DonSqueak5900d ago

Someone mail Kojima that he need not worry: Tweaker doesn't care. As usual, that settles it, no?

mighty_douche5900d ago

tweaker can only speak for tweaker. thats HIS opinion, he's not trying to speak for everyone.

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

CrimsonWing6910h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker10h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing6910h ago(Edited 10h ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos7h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos16h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto15h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger8815h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies5h ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
