PlayStation Home to come out soon?

We've heard about Warhawk's integration into PlayStation Home, and we're incredibly happy about the news. But there's a rumor that may make us even more giddy about Home. According to this juicy, supposedly insider, tidbit, we're going to get PlayStation Home "VERY VERY VERY soon".

According to a PlayStation forum member, he managed to get in touch with an insider, who "shared" his/her knowledge about the development of PS3 games, and the things that a game needs for it to get included in the PlayStation Home network. Check out this excerpt, and read it carefully:

I set aside $50 back when home as announced just for microtransactions to furnish my apartment! Though, 50 bucks might be a bit overkill - I don't think it'll take that much. Actually, I don't even know if that stuff is going to be free or not, I just assumed it would cost a dollar or two, etc.

I think I will call them trophies instead of accomplisment, I like that better. I can't wait for home, and I think they will release it around the same time as the DS3 controller.

I agree. Trophies, Medals, Badges, Kudos - anything is better than Accomplishments, which sounds a little too close to Achievements anyways.

That's the full product... This open Beta stuff.. I dunno, man. I hear alot about it inside and out but where is it? As far as I'm concerned and I'm documented as saying so on Ps offical forums there isn't going to be one.

There's too much to get done without worrying about all these complains coming in about this and that right now. It'd be counter productive for Sony to do an open beta, cause the thing would never "officially" have a release date then.

I mean, this is just me... I could be wrong. I just don't see a public beta happening and if you talk to anyone who's "really" in the home Beta you'll probably get something along the same lines in response.

all of the necessary features havent been implimented, it is usable, but not everything is there that needs to be. We are one very large patch from being usable. They tried to impliment something but it isnt working atm. IF they are going to release it they used internal beta to finish it up.

If the beta is any indication we are months out.

not just trophies...you also unlock crap to put on your dude and around your apartment...that is entirely up to devs according to SCE, but one of the first blog posts talked about how there would be a 'trophy' in Dark Sector that would allow you to put that glave thing on your Home avatar...and the Warhawk boards are rumoring that you will be able to unlock boots and leather jackets from the game, as well as put models around your apartment...depending on your rank...so instead of a "gamerscore"...you simply are able to customize the character that everyone else sees based on what games you have played...thats the plan anyway...just depends on which developers actually go nuts with it...

I guess that stuff is kind of cool if you get into it...as of right now...doesn't interest me in the slightest...but pretty much everyone I know that has become an achievement nut on XBL claimed to have said the exact same thing when they first heard about the gamerscore stuff...

3rd party developers got the tools with the free EDGE SDK update back in October of 2007...which was the same time Sony dropped the SDK price and licensing royalty in half as well...

Probably means that Home will be integrated with a lot of games around the release too...which would be better than the service going live, but not having any software supporting it until months later...

You unlock an accomplishment in lets say DMC4 and it gives you a skin or something to put on your avatar in Home. Imagine walking around in Home with the Sparda on your back :)

The reason these rumours are so clingy though, is because there's no actual news being given anymore. This is the result of a word drought. Everyone is looking forward to GDC because it might bring something interesting, but the truth is, the only thing GDC brings is stuff that's interesting to people who make games. It's not a consumers show.

With all these in-game XMB rumors and Sony pulling out parts of their site, people are expecting something. Whether its in-game XMB or Home, everyone think GDC is going to be the day Sony comes out and says "in-game XMB is coming tomorrow" or "Home is coming this day" but it's not.

the whole point of getting developer tools out there is that it gives new games time to impliment them. A neat little tidbit is that accomplishments are necessary in order for sony to accept the game. Same with HOME access

So, you'll be able to launch into a game from within Home. But, does that mean you'll also be able to send voice, video and text messages between games? Different games?

There seems to be some confusion (at least with me) about what part of Home is going to be accross the library features and what is going to be the 3D second-life part.

I own both systems and I love my 360. Losing side?? Yea, considering it has a larger install base(year headstart or not) and has very profitable software with a far superior online community.

I would never be naive to count out Sony or MS. Sony has been the market leader, the very fact that the 360 has done what it has to the PS3 is a testament to the power/potential power of the Xbox brand.

Well they gave us three "verys". But that should be within a few days yeah? Heres how i see it.
