IGN: PS3 Still Struggling in Japan

IGN: "The DS Lite regained the top spot in Japanese hardware sales during October 2007 after PSP claimed the title in September. According to Famitsu, the dual screens moved 318,000 units last month. Sony's handheld wasn't far behind, though, with 279,000 sold. The portable duo left all the home consoles in the dust.

The Wii came in a distant third with 110,415 units sold. The numbers drop off considerably from there: 47,183 for the PlayStation 3, 45,447 for the PS2, and 18,717 for the Xbox 360".

The fact remained that most Sony fans in Japan already has a PS2 which still has top releases there (in terms of home consoles, not portable consoles) than any of the next gen consoles.

Most of the solid PS3 titles has been from Europe and the U.S., so they don't have as much appeal as JRPGs (my favorite genre), but it will change soon thanks to Nippon Ichi's Disgaea 3 and Level 5's White Knight Story. Then followed up by MGS4 and FF, it will be pretty good.

On the plus side, the PSP is doing really well thanks to so many titles being out for it and the hardware refresh.

Anyhow PS3 and Wii are japans consoles. The 360 not selling well or ahead of them 2 is expected but the Wii is kicking sony's arse.

Only negative news 360 ever had was RROD, everything else is gravy. Hell 95% of the news for the 360 is always better than the PS3DO.

Hold on tight zippy. Other than some minor territories and Germany, the only place the 360 outsold the PS3 was the US. That is all that is keeping the 360 on top. And as momentum builds this fall, that will come to an end also.

14 - hmm so there are still 45xxx regular sales for PS3 without 40gb

and it is the month right before holiday and new SKU introduction....we can probably safely say Sony can at least sell about 50k consoles each month from now on...and with the new SKU, holiday season, and pristine lineup of game, i assume sony will start selling around 150k-200k consoles each month in Japan very soon

Old news - these sales figures don't take into account the recent large increase. A lot of Japs waited for the new white model at the cheaper price, and we now know its sold exceptionally well, and I suspect will continue to sell well.
