Halo 3 slips as FIFA 08 tops UK sale charts

UK's ChartTrack reports a 79 percent drop in sales for Halo 3 in its second week of release. EA's FIFA 08 claims the top spot in the PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii, and All Formats Top 40 Charts; the PS2 version overtakes Halo 3 as this week's Individual Formats No. 1 in units sold.

4 - Europe and USA are totally different.

Different Market, Different People, Different appealing. Halo is not so good in here. Where I live there has been nothing about Halo. Even on Italien TV I never saw X360 Ad only PS3 Adverts.

Also Pic below shows a very big difference between US and Europe.

Even after a 79% drop, Halo 3 is second only to the PS2 version of FIFA in overall units sold. Do a little more searching on the web, and you'll find that the 360 version of FIFA, which is not even the bestselling 360 game, is far outselling the PS3 version. And the PS2 version of FIFA will not be playable on the 40 gb PS3s.

So what are you PS3 fans so happy about anyway?

You said the PS3 version of FIFA is better for the PS3 than the PS2 version. I agree. So why would somebody buy the PS2 version if he is soon to get a PS3? Answer: because he is not thinking about getting a PS3 yet.

1. Fact: someone who knows he is going to have a 60/80 gb (w/BC) PS3 shortly should not rush to buy FIFA for PS2 but should wait a little till he gets his PS3, THEN get the PS3 version of FIFA, which is better for his PS3.
2. Fact: someone who knows he will soon get a 40 gb (no BC) PS3 will not be able to play the PS2 version of FIFA on his PS3 at all, so he has even less reason to buy the PS2 version and more reason to wait for his PS3 THEN buy the better PS3 version of FIFA.
3. Conclusion: based on these two facts, the many people buying the PS2 version of FIFA right now probably believe they are not about to get a PS3 of any kind soon, if ever.
4. Conclusion 2: my original point - PS3 fans that are celebrating these latest ChartTrack numbers have no reason to be happy because these sales figures may not actually be good news for their pet console.

I registered just to reply to the dumb comment you made, why would it matter that the ps2 version cant be played on the 40 gig ps3 if the ps3 has its own version. Your trying a little too hard buddy, think about what you type before you type it.

@ Gina above, it has already been stated that trading in anything ps2 is at this stage pointless and unprofitable, and if your willing to upgrade a system why not upgrade the game too if its availabel. That like me buying 360 to play halo 2 when 3 is sitting on the shelf, I'd have to be a complete A$$. If their that chaped about all they have to do is spend 50 more and problem solved. Pulled right from the article “PS2 version also overtaking ‘Halo 3’ as this week’s Individual Formats (Units) No1.”. The point is that the PS2 is a dead platform speaking from Sony’s announcement of the new 40GB box that will not support PS2 games. Everyone who bought a PS2 FIFA game will never upgrade to a PS3. Why would they if they can’t play any of their PS2 games on the PS3?

I see your small point but the thing is the game was released before the announcement of the new sku, had it been the other way around most of those people would have probably waited until this week to get the game, i still dont think one game with stop many of those people from upgrading. ok now lets all be realistic here. halo 3 was top for a week, it sold loads so there is always gonna be a dip in the second week. football is big here and fifa is one of the biggest football games so it was always gonna struggle against fifa being a single format game with a small console base compared to the ps2, wii, 360 and ps3 combined. i kno the ps2 fifa outsold it but the ps2 as a large install base. what im more intrested in is to see how many consoles that halo shifted.

i like that little "multi" next to Fifa as in it takes across all platforms with the ability of reaching easily 10 to 20 times more people to beat halo 3's single console. Didnt it sell like 1 million copies the first week in the UK? 79% less still beats like 95% of games first week sales...all it means is that most people bought a huge release like halo in its first week as i would think it would. sony fanboys For The Lose!!!!!!!

Funny how anyway kind of news showing any inclination of a negative view against halo automatically becomes a party or a virtual get together for PS3 Fanboys. There is something to be said about a game that has decreased in sales by 79 percent and it still in second place to a game that is newly release in a country where the sport is more popular than any other.

Yet somehow, the desparation in some of you see it as a victory for your egos to relish the alleged bad news for halo. Why does halo3 scare you guys so badly, it's really kinda creepy how much attention this game gets from people who claim that it is garbage.

I have learn more about human behavior from visiting this site than I could have ever learn in any classroom. One thing I have learn that impacts me the most is, how people can get caught up in satisfying their belonging need to the point that they will ban together in a group and totally disregard reality. To the point of using profanity and threats.

we should compare xbox and xbox360 games to playstation 2 and playstation 3 games and consoles sold. since the xbox is COMPLETELY dead it accounts for NOTHING!!! if the ps2 werent around anymore a lot more people would get the ps3. people compare the 360 and ps3 to each other in sales all the time but seem to forget the ps2 STILL outsells the 360 in consoles sold each week (minus the halo 3 launch, HAHA, which only lasted one week). and that is what is truly pathetic.

id rather play three good games all year long than play 5 good games for only 6 months because my console is being repaired the other half of the year.

i didnt think it was that difficult to understand. let me state what i already did but put it in another way. if people did not have the ability to buy the ps2, which still sells more than the 360, they would purchase a ps3. if developers didnt make new games for the ps2 they would make them for the ps3. im not saying everyone with a ps2 would get a ps3, but the overall sales of the ps3 would be a lot higher. its more of common sense thing. thanks for reiterating the overall dominance of the ps2 but thats not the point. point is, it STILL sells more than the 360 each week. after such a rich history sony has with the ps brand its impossible for them to lose. while the ps3 may not be doing the best in sales in its generation, theres plenty of other gaming revenue sony can produce. ms sucks as a gaming company and its proven over and over again. when they can make at least $1 from the 360 then xbots have a reason to talk, until then do some research, dont be so narrow sighted and look at overall gaming sales. ps kills the competition. if sony wanted to take over with the ps3 they would just phase out the ps2. its like comparing the ford taurus to the complete company acura. yes the taurus sells more than the nsx but overall acura sales kill the competition. comes back to that whole common sense thing. xbots dont look at the whole picture because they have selective memory. just like how the ps3's price cut really is a "bad" thing for sony. haha, nice twist!

I probably will, but i heard many people that was dissapointed on it. I will pick a used copy up, there are pretty many people who sells them after they tried the game. I just hope the reviwer didnt give Halo 3 high score only because of the earlier games, i have to pick it up and chek for myself..
