Here it goes, the top 10 best video game boss battles. Keep in mind, these are boss battles in the classic sense. This does not include fighting games or generic types of enemies. This means a giant fucking battle against one very nasty bad guy. Mashedbuttons only exclude fighting games because nobody in a fighting game has been as awesome for Mashedbuttons to fight as any of these guys. These are in no particular order.

MGS3 mainly the end and the boss fights are epic on my opinion.

There's just NOTHING like that battle. No game can match that fight!

Out of all the post I've seen from you this is one I can finally agree with. How I let the boss battles from Shadow of the Colossus slip my mind is beyond my understanding. I sold my PS2 but kept that 1 game, couldn't part with it.

Some of DMC1`s bosses here, especially the one against the Black Knight.

FF8 last boss should be here too. I must say it was really funny to sit through one and a half hour to beat him, only to have the disc stop on me. Twice. I havn`t played the game since and still hasn`t gotten to see the final cutscene.

The minotaur battle from God of War, was more scary for the than the Hydra for myself personally. I was a bit disappointed in GoW 2 for not having as great boss battles as the first one, even though it certainly had more of them.

I havn`t played the game myself, but i can imagine Ninja Gaiden could haven some great one`s too, as the game is so hard.

Ninja Gaiden did have some cool bosses but none I'd put into the top 10 to be honest.

I agree with you for DMC. The Nightmare battles were awesome especially in DMD mode. I was thinking about Ruby Weapon from Final Fantasy 7. It's a great battle but I think the Emerald Weapon was better.

from MGS3 was a pretty sweet fight. Not too hard once you got the hang of it, but it was so sweet. Took me soo long to find out what to do. But it was also cool to see all the dead people you killed on that walk down the river.

9 - Not bad on the list.

Except the Psycho Mantis ,Mario vs Bowser and Sonic. Reason, you can pick MANY better MG boss battles and Mario and Sonic are Epic, in a childs sense, My opinion. The Samus Vs Thardus (Rock thing) battle was GREAT! I could fight that one over and over. The GoW Minitar battle , to me, was better that the Hydra, but the Hydra was still great. I also liked the Berserker battle in Gears. Since it's in no specific order, it should have been longer. I liked SotC, but never got to the end boss, I had fun solving the bosses, but the riding your horse between bosses with nothing to do along the way got boring and I got into something else.

What makes a good boss battle to someone depends on so many things...

To me, a good boss battle is based on how hard it is, the story between the good and bad guys, what happens just before and after the battle, and even the music during the battle.

I really think Ramirez from Skies of Arcadia should have been on the list. Fighting him and the gigas was easy, but the fight against him fused with the gigas was wonderful. The voice for him gave me chills the first time I took him on (its very deep, "where there is light, there is darkness"). He also has some of the coolest abilities. Besides access to every decent spell, he can remove positive effects from you, has a decent array of awesome looking special attacks, and can use your own attacks against you. His story is also wonderful.

The best Sonic boss ever was in Sonic Adventure 2, the Final Hazard. Two previous enemies fighting for the same cause against a larger than life creature leading a space station into Earth? Heck yeah! What they say to each other is great as well (at one point, Shadow even says he is the prototype for the true ultimate life form, who he believes is Sonic).

The only non-final boss I could see making the list is from Mario Sunshine. Fighting the huge mecha Bowser from a rollercoaster is one of the most creative ways to fight a boss I've ever seen, and it was a whole heck of a lot of fun!

Legend of Dragoon had some great bosses, as well, but the final boss there was very good, too. Besides having an insane amount of HP, going though the creation of the world as you fight him really adds a lot to it, considering the religion in that game means so much, if you really pay attention to it.

Maybe its just me, but I like Kirby vs Metaknight, too. I rememeber playing Kirby Super Star just to fight Metaknight, sword against sword.

I'm also shocked that Link vs Gannondorf in Twilight Princess didn't make the cut. Oh my goodness, there are so many parts to that. They really make sure you got everything down, and, of course, the story behind Link and Gannondorf goes back to the earliest days of our gaming, for most people.

It's not a bad list, but a lot of them could have been changed. The best boss battles all depend on what you like in your bosses. I don't agree with some of their picks, but I can see why they like most of them.

as i type this i'm taking a break from the HS final battle.

it can verify the it is one of the most amazing battles i've ever seen. in the first part you're surrounded by thousands of soldiers and one touch sends them flying across the boards (i would state why this is a big deal but i don't wanna ruin it for anyone that hasn't gotten this far yet), then you go to another part to continue fighting and thats where i am now.

gonna start back now. just had to let my fingers cool off a bit. wish me luck ;)

I can't believe he put Frank West vs Carlito for Dead Rising. The final boss fight at the very end of the game is more difficult and way better overall (the whole situation is awesome).
