PS2 Backups running on the PS3

Here is a short video of someone booting up a PS2 backup game on their PS3.

Note that this method actually requires you to open up your PS3 and void your warranty by soldering a 3-way switch to your Blu-Ray drive in your PS3. This is confirmed working on a Firmware 1.10 PS3 and confirmed not working on Firmware 1.31+.

Well, considering that you still need the original copy of the game to boot the back-up, I relli don't see the point in voiding your warranty.

i was tihnking about suing one of the other methods back when i wanted to mod my ps3 but i dont want to anymore, wat im curious is about how did they write that 'confirmed not working on Firmware 1.31+.'... did they waste another ps3 on that???

yes thats right i wanted to use pirated games, sadly bcuz i cant afford ps3 games but i wish to support sony so i will try to buy my games on ps3, it took me 5 months to get my first real game (i bought ps3 in january), resistance (off ebay $34), i also used some proxy methods and got free games like super rub a dub and lemmings, plus my neighbor came over and downloaded tekken 5dr off his account for me, also if u think my avatar is gay then ur speaking for urself too

the switch is needed to trick the PS3 into thinking the retail copy is still in machine while placing a backup copy in it.

well not soo soon. This is begining to look like the PSP, the more hackers tinker with this PS3 the more they discover, they are just too consistant to be stopped on all consoles.

Sony is gonna have to release more Firmware updates...similar to the cat and mouse game with the PSP.

This is terrible, ps2 games are at an affordable price, why would anyone need to pirate games and take money away from the game developing community aswell as SCE staff such as myself. It is a sad state of affairs

You know what get me the most is Sony fans just dont like to admit that hackers have been ripping up the PS3 from day one just like the 360, Wii, PS2, XBOX, GC (although rare) Dreamcast, PS, Nintendo 64 and every PC, MAC or any other electronic product that "HUMAN" hands have made and that "HUMAN" hands can take apart. What Sony fans do you think the PS3 was made with unhackable alien technoligy or somthing? Somtimes I thinks Sony fans minds just arn't all there, You been crying FAKE! FAKE! FAKE! ever since the first Copy of RFOM was hacked on youtube.

I don't understand why people say this is fake. It isn't several people have tested this, someone posted this method a few weeks ago with pictures of install, but no video to show it working. This shows it working.

The guy who did this actually said his PS3 was broken by UPS when it was shipped and Sony refused to replace it under the warranty, so he opened it up and managed to get it working and seen as it wasn't under warranty he decided to try this little hack out.

Btw, I know most of you won't believe this, but some people prefer to play backups of their games rather than their original so that the original doesn't get scratched and if the backup is scratched they can recopy the original for personal use. This is not illegal.
