Mass Effect 2 producer: devs 'pamper' gamers - Video Games Daily

VGD writes: "So it seems we're all a bunch of mewling, puking crybaby halfwits who wouldn't know a difficulty curve if it was rammed up our nostrils. That's according to Mass Effect 2 producer Adrien Cho, who thinks new skool developers are letting the present generation of gamers off easy."

Love Demon Souls, but I seriously hope Mass Effect 2 doesn't turn out the same way... :p

It's somewhat true with games having "Auto" everything. Pretty soon the next Nintendo will just play games FOR the consumer. True controller-less gameplay.

1.6 - As long as the difficulty is legitimate there is no problem.
But when things get cheap and it seems like the game is getting a free pass to cheat, then we have a problem.

GWAVE: and yet with all those issues, BioWare still make some of the best games out there.

2 - A lot of gamers these days are cry babies
I guess it's the influx of teenagers that's causing this.

I remember when games were difficult, now it's all a cake walk.

Darn shame.

Whilst i don't mind a challenge in a game i want to bloody well finish it without adjusting the difficulty level.

Most people don't have the time nor the obsession to sit through a game you can't be bothered grinding on just to finish the story that you've already bought.

Wouldn't have it in a film would you? "Beat this arm wrestler to see the ending!"

If a game has a story, it needs to have appropriate settings so that 'normal' means that you don't get stuck, but sure have a couple of levels above that, just don't put the gamerscore there.

I like games that are challenging, but I've realize many Japanese devs have a screwed up image of what challenging is. When I play western games on harder difficulties my skills are put to the test, but when I play games made in the far east most of the time they're nearly impossible to beat on harder modes. It's like Japanese gamers like losing. Demon's Souls was pretty cool though.

4.1 - I see this most in fighting games.
When the computer is on higher difficultly they just seem to get faster and more powerful instead of more skilled.

generally agree...

gamers these days are having everything done for them... and still finding everything to complain about.

sad thing is i don't see the trend changing, it will only get worse!

this is what commercialization is doing to our beloved games.

6 - There is no difficulty curve on games anymore
Most games are dirt easy on medium.....I need to start on hard just for a mild challenge.

People have different definitions of a challenge I found out. For my taste a challenge can be taking over 5 mins to kill a boss and of course the health dropping close to zero a few times, but not dying. While others have to die at least 10 times for it to seem challenging. I realized over these years playing games, that dying takes a lot of time, and I don't like that one bit. Time just goes by too damn fast when your older. I've been playing GoW1 on hard on my PS3, and I think I died close to 50 times throughout the game. I get frustrated very easily and when that happens words come out of my mouth that I never even knew existed. At least I don't break controllers like my cousin.
