1.1 - That's to be expected...
...considering the average Wii SHOVELWARE title outsells any PS3 exclusives. For some strange reason, Sony fanboys love to hype the HELL out of games...and they've often deserved the hype....but then turn all Jew-like when the games actually release. It makes no sense.

Of course it sold better. It's mulitplatform and its the only NFL game. Honestly I'm kinda shocked Madden 10 has only sold 3.9mil I thought it would sell way more than that. People must be getting sick of Madden.

I honestly think it's because of this new age of gaming. In my teen age years Madden hit its prime. I'm talking Madden 2002-2005, pretty much once the PS2 hit. I bought it every year, played the hell out of it every year. Hell, NCAA too.

But since the PS3 launched I've bought it twice (07,09) and won't buy it again. I'm just not interested in it because there are literally so many other titles that I'm interested in. I mean you look at the releases from this year already leading up to Madden and there was Killzone, SF, Infamous, Prototype, Arkham Asylum, and a bunch more that I'm sure I'm forgetting.

On top of that, Madden isn't really the center of a system anymore like sports games first were on the PS2, especially with the younger generation being brought up on the Wii.

I honestly think we won't see Madden sell like it used to ever again, and as much as that blows (for people who care) it might spike interest in bringing 2K back, or maybe another football franchise, who knows.

Just my two cents..

1.4 - Goldeneagle,
Great point. I used to be a rabid Madden gamer back in the ps2 days. But what made it more fun for me actually going to people's houses and playing with a few beers. Having live tournaments and such. With Xbox Live, I rarely go to people's houses now. It just isn't the same. I still love it and buy it every year but it's still not as fun as the ps2 days.

You both bring up really good points. I've been buying it every year still but I think I am done with it. I hardly play it online and Franchise mode lasts 30 seasons so I think I'll just say I am set on Football for a few years.

Holy crap that's not good at all. It's frikgen Madden, it should have sold more than that on the PS3 alone talk less of on all 5 gaming platforms.

Are people finally getting tired of Madden? GASP! Never thought I'd see the day.

Oh OP, that's a flamebait comment and you know it. Open zone is there for a reason.

but the game is just not exciting the fans anymore.and gamers like me who loved nfl2k5,will never buy their football games to add to their sales.it may end up selling well, but being the only one....it should have sold tons.

Don't think the NFL is going to let that go unnoticed. They expect more return from that exclusive deal. And yes NFL 2K5 was awesome. Ahead of its time even now. The presentation was just amazing.

4 - this is excellent news
i have bought every madden for either ps2,xbox and xbox 360. this year marked the first year i have not bought madden. all my friends stopped buying it after madden 08 not because they grew out of the game or had other ones they are moving onto, but because madden sucks. period end of story. I kept buying them because i want to play football but every year madden is the same. buy game, play for 2 weeks, get frustrated at the amount of bugs and glitches in the game, online games become unplayable due to cheats, EA does nothing. every august rinse, lather, repeat.
So this year after seeing the bugs and BS in madden 2010 demo i finally went a year without buying madden. It sucks because i really want to play football but hopefully people like me who bought every madden have finally had enough and will get EA's attention with the lack of sales.

6 - I was HOPING that this happened....
ONLY because I think that Madden needs the competition to be great. Back in the days of the early PSone days and into PS2, the sports genre was somewhat of a battlefield. Several companies were vying to be the number one franchise in each sport. For every players taste, there was a different game. Flash forward to 2009 and there is no real competition in the sports genre. Would anybody show up to a horse race with only two horses? What about NASCAR...just 2 cars and 500 miles? This is the problem here. Actually, it is worse with football because there is ONLY EA. Yeah, diehard fans of Madden will tell you that there are changes that happen year to year. But, for those that just like to play football from time to time these minute changes don't amount to enough change and innovation. In order to be great, you have to be compared to the greatest there are. IF you ARE the greatest, then you need the challenge of greatness to push you to greater heights. Madden needs competition badly to force the innovations that were once HUGE back in the days. Otherwise, we will get what we have now...small tweaks in gameplay (which were usually done in a past Madden or other franchise)...graphical changes every 2-3 years...and basic roster updates.
