1.3 - In my opinion PS3 should out do PS2
There have been a ton of awesome exclusives this year alone, and even though I want to play them all sadly I cant afford them all. Sucks to be a gamer on a budget. But I am sure PS3 is on the right track.

3 - poeple are buying them still!
great library of games, which in many cases cost less than half the price of newer games! the console itself is already at $99! 10 years? try 12!

3.1 - Yeah seriously
If people are still buying it, it wouldn't make any sense to pull the plug. They'd be throwing away money.

3.2 - I see it every December
Families on limited budgets buying PS2's. There are so many great games at rock bottom prices, your kids can have an awesome Christmas without spending an arm and a leg. Spend $150-$200 and be the greatest parents on Earth.

My best gaming years were during the ps2 era but I still have a greater affection for the ps1 and the old nintendo consoles. the xbox brand has never really won me over because I can play most their games on the superior PC.

I still have a PS2 and all i can say is that its hard to abandon a great console after giving me years of happy gaming. I don't think BC will work for me cause we've got an HDTV and when i tried it on the PS2 i wanted to tear my eyes out so my PS2 is permanently hooked on a regular SDTV. I think the PS2 will be around for much more than 10 years because it has a ton of great games and there are still people who can't afford the current systems. All in all its the greatest console of any generation because of its longevity.

9.1 - For all those having troubles with theri PS2 and HDTV
Check out the Xploder HDTV for PS2 @ http://gear.ign.com/article...

It basically upscales the image but with varying results.

Does this thing really work? Anyways having separate tv and consoles works for me because i can still play when someone else is using the other console. We have multiple pc's and consoles in the house cause everyone here plays games and goes on the net.

A good HDTV will upscale the PS2 image perfectly - it'll look as if it was shown on SDTV. Cheap (or old) HDTVs mostly have crappy upscalers.

i know this sounds cheesy, but the ps2 had an almost "organic" feel to it. this gen is clouded by fanboys and sale numbers.
A shame really.

I baby my Ps2 I still have mine hooked up to play games with since my Ps3 is not backwards compatible. There are a lot of great games in the PS2 library that are worth playing my library is stocked with RPGs and I just picked up Mana Khemia 2 for my PS2. Plus the price point of the Ps2 makes it a great system for little kids to gradually be introduced to videogames. With the economy the way it is and the Price of the Ps2 they go hand and hand but if your strapped for cash you can buy a big title say Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 for the PS2 and still enjoy the game.

The PS4 will be out before that. The PS3 will be in it's "grandfather years". Remember, the PS3 came out just 6 years after the PS2 hit the market.

Guys i understand your love for the ps2 but i never had the same feeling for mine :{ mind you it prob didn't help that the laser went just a short while after the warranty ran out and Sony wanted 70 quid to replace, no way that was going to happen so i traded it in for a xbox . I'm not dissing the ps2 it just didn't happen for me i would have stuck with it if Sony replaced it for free but 1 month out of warranty and they wouldn't budge on bit :{

The PS2 is still a champ. The fact that you can still walk into most any store and see them for sale (and selling) at this point in the system's life says alot about the success of the platform. I heart my eight year old PS2 and slim PS2.

Exactly! I'm almost considering buying a PS2 slim, I have a fat PS2 and a backwards compatible PS3. It'd be nice to have an extra PS2 lying around the house. I can see myself keeping a PS2 in every room of my house when I get older. Cheap, cheap entertainment now. But the quality does not lessen.
