Konami confirms PS2 re-issues

Konami has confirmed to Eurogamer that it is reissuing old PS2 games to shops, as EG reader Richard Garrard suspected.

"They are proper reissues," a spokesperson told us. "Konami has put them out at budget price because of demand. They are re-manufactured. They are ours."

Those PS2 games are Suikoden Tactics, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. And they will soon be joined by Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4.

I dont understand why they haven't made a next gen Zone of the Enders yet? They are concentrating too hard on MGS, and honestly I would pick ZOE over MGS any day.

£10-20 is pretty good, those games are usually priced around that second hand.

Very decent price!

Not played a Zone of the Enders game before, can't go wrong for that price to be honest.

Never played Silent Hill 2 either (i know, and i call myself a gamer!), so i shall be picking that up too =]

I'll get Suikoden Tactics and Zone of the Enders: Second Runner again. For sure. I just want them, really, to release a Suikoden Collection with reissues of Suikoden 1 & 2 (PSone) + 3, 4 and 5. I'd pay 100 bucks for that collection. And it would certainly make Suikoden 2 prices fall significantly on ebay and more people could finally play that game.

I don't see why other companies don't do this. Seriously, I was THIS close to paying 70 dollars for a new copy of silent hill 3 on amazon. THIS CLOSE

This makes me think that they didn't want to wait to put theem on psn, so either downloadable ps2 games are way off or aren't happening.

Not a bad collection there.

I still own my original copies of Metal Gear 2 and 3 aswell as Silent Hill 2, never had the heart to get rid of those!

Could be swayed to pick up ZoE for that price though, i've heard good things?

Re-issue as in a ps2 / x-box disc?

Does that mean some should hold on to their ps2's still? or that ps2 may even lose some past exclusives if Konami decide to port Metal Gear 3 / ZOE?

If they put the Metal Gear's or the ZOE's on a blu-ray 2-4-1 disc that would be really cool. Although they probably won't.

Re-releasing well known PS2 games when the PS2 is in its final years?

Could this possibly be part of Sony's D-Day plan? Announce a cheaper slim PS3 with BC. Advertise the fact with tons of reissued PS2 games?

It could possibly be to do with Konami recently posting quite a severe drop in revenue after MGS4.

http://www.n4g.com/NewsCom-...

Maybe they're trying to recoup some money after seeing the success of re-releases like FFVII and MGS1 on the PSN?

Seeing as the PS2 is still booming for a 10 year old console that's coming to the end of it's lifecycle and there's no availability yet for PS2 games on the PSN, this seems like a good time to cash in again on some classics?

10.2 - My point exactly.
Current PS3s can't play PS2 games. Reissuing them might give you a sales boost, but you'd get a much more healthier one if Sony said, "Hey gamers! The Next PS3 update will let you play PS2 game like the ones Konami just put out!

"And we just happen to have this new, cheaper slim PS3 with the update already installed!

"Now's the time for all you PS2 owners to move tot he next generation of gaming!"

11 - Great ZOE!
Would love to see a Zone of Enders game. I think it played much better than even Iron Man a newer PS3 title. If there was enough interest maybe we could see a remake.

11.1 - It seems that could well become a reality!
"In a recent GameSpot interview with Kojima, he was asked about a third installment of the game. His response was: "I've been getting questions about that, and I've pretty much counted each one as a demand...I'll be sure to count that one too." An even more recent interview describes Hideo Kojima as saying: "I want to make it, but I'm so busy with MGS4 that I have to focus on that right now." While no confirmations of a third game were made, the possibility of one has been brought to attention many times. Kojima has even stated that he "has an idea for the next Zone of the Enders game", which should please fans fearing that poor sales had put an end to the series"

15 - PS3 Slim backwards Compatible Maybe?
Hmmm... Maybe Konami knows something about the new PS3 Slim and backwards compatibility. I mean if Sony manufacturing costs are down 70%, they can now afford to make the new model PS3 backward compatible aye?!!

Here's hoping.
