Brett Ratner Abandons "God of War"

WorstPreviews writes: "Back in October, director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men 3) revealed that one of the projects he is working on is a big screen adaptation of "God of War." Fan response to the news was not positive, which is why you'll be happy to hear that Ratner is no longer pursuing the film.

According to Production Weekly: "Over at Universal it looks like Brett Ratner has shelved 'God Of War,' and is moving forward on 'Trump Heist' with Eddie Murphy and Chris Tucker."

"Trump Heist" is a film about a group of employees who rob the rich residents of Manhattan's Trump Tower."

I think Kratos' voice is HUGE part of the character and the game.

For anyone familiar with GoW it's instantly recognisable and us fans of the game identify with it as being Kratos.

Anything that sounds different just wouldn't be the same.

But then you never know we could be surprised and something similar yet different could work. I mean I know I never expected Matt Damon to be good in an action movie but I loved the Bourne series lol.

Needs to be CG. Since that GoWIII trailer got released, I just can't imagine it with real actors, also, we need the voice of Kratos.

Basically, the only person that could play Kratos in a God of War film, is Kratos.

back on subject, those 2 Directors are my TOP choices. I will also suggest Wolfgang Petersen for doing a great job in Troy. Also Ridley Scott comes to my mind for Gladiator...

Guillermo del Toro would be great to do a Silent Hill or Alone in the Dark style film my vote to take on this movie would be none other than Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen). I'm so glad that Brett Ratner is out he destroyed the last Xmen movie.

Good news, next step is Metal Gear Solid movie then Uwe Boll. Nobody should make video game adaptation on cinema, it almost always fail (my exception goes to Silent Hill, which i found pretty good).

I was just about to express my relief that at least Uwe Boll isnt eyeing this. Hopefully if he does, someone will pay the mafia to make him an offer he cant refuse. Watching a Uwe Boll film is like ingesting constantine(razor) wire and then washing it down with a mug of broken glass. Both activities are equally enlightening. As well, a God of War movie should have equal parts gory intense, over the top action, and gripping, heart wrenching story development(or the perfect balance). The God of War games are just as much about sorrow and loss as they are about revenge and resolution, which is why they are so immersive, and successful at charging you with the task of revenge after giving you many justifiable reasons to go over the edge and be consumed by anguish and retribution. Guillermo del Toro would definitely compliment any action movie with excellent plot and character development.

Oh he sure is , but even an egomaniac such as him knows well there are some franchise to big for him to ever be allowed to touch . Like Sony with such a big picture division would let such hack at the helm ...

And great news for GoW , i'm not a fan of the movie idea anyway , especially when people clamors for Vin diesel in the part (why because he's bald and famous ? As if any better and more fit actor could shave his head ?) or because too many are asking for basically what would feel like a 300 sequel .

Brent ratner isnt a hack imo , his movie does often sucks , however the man got real talent when it comes to TV series realisation and production .

I thought the same about Dungeon Seige, surely the IP owners wouldnt be gullible enough to let Boll direct the movie. To my dismay, he did direct it. I relate a Uwe Boll film more to a fan service than an actual full production movie, only his movies arent standout fan services. He is more like a good franchise hitman. Someone that you would refer to direct the competition's movie because you want to destroy them. Or an ambitious backyard director. I'm not really a fan of Ratner, but we can agree that he has talent in certain areas of production and direction. I think Brian Thompson would be good at playing kratos, better than some of the other proposals I have seen. He already has the hardened chiseled features and the deep world weary voice, that plus a fit muscular build. He played Shao Kahn in Mortal Kombat Annihilation, look at the shape of his skull, perfect for the part http://img.photobucket.com/... .

Why is it a white or black thing, and since when were African Americans common in Greece/Rome/Athens in Greek/Roman times? Im sorry, but all the clay murals I've seen have depicted cauccasian characters. If the face fits then stop sounding like a racist and admit it, if you dont agree, dont bring racial preference into it. How crass. Just for your information I grew up in a black family. My father(what I consider as my father) raised me and four other sons, and one daughter. Yes I am white.

Turkey at the time was considered Persia, and they were enemies, and Kratos was a captain in the Roman army. Even before he became the ghost of Sparta, he was most definitely white, judging by the in-game videos from both games. That is unless the creators of the game and the game itself is incorrect, and Kurylo3d is right.

Any argument over the colour of the guy isn't really relevant.

For the most part Kratos' skin is the colour of the ashes of his dead wife and daughter. The only part requiring the colour of the actors actual skin would be in some form of flashback to before he killed his loved ones and those parts are fairly dark meaning skin colour may not be that apparent at that time in the story.

No thanks . While 300 was great , and kinda close in epic .. i'd rather not have the same design for GoW .
GoW needs it's own identity that doesnt involve sin city/300's particular digital style . it mustnt be a 300 clone , and should avoid similar casting even if a beardless and tanned gerard butler would so look like Kratos .

Take another look at the game in motion. He's white, end of story. He's a Roman. I think you need a dose of your own medicine, trying to make a Roman white guy into a black guy, just because he has a brother's voice,and yes I know who TC Carson is. Also it's irrelevant if he is white or black, I just want someone that accurately portrays the character that I love so much. If you find a brother with white skin, pointed nose, and other cauccasian features like Kratos has, other than Micheal Jackson, then please post his picture. See this is what pisses me off, certain outspoken individuals falsely claiming racism so that developers and directors cater to them. Perhaps if Capcom had focused more on making a great game with Resident Evil 5, and less on catering to certain outspoken individuals screaming racism, it might have been a better game.

THE GAME DEVELOPER said he is black. Dont start comparing history or start telln people "look at him hes white", in interviews with him they say hes a black main character, the reason his skin turned that color is its the ashes of his family staining his skin. Can you prove it? I'd really like to see where the creators say that he is a black main character, and not the main character is voiced by a black man. I am talking about the flashback that shows him as a Roman captain on a white horse, before he murdered his family, and even during the act, you can plainly see that he is white, with caucasian features here is a video that may interest you http://video.google.com/vid... Stop turning this into a black and white thing. Dont go there, historically, I am right, but this isnt exactly history, just historical settings and references. I know the story of Kratos, and how he was deceived by Aries into murdering his own wife and child, and as punishment he was forced to be reminded everyday of this act by the ashes of his family permanently on his skin. Old news, bud. Romans were white, Greecians were white, Athenians were white, so you get over it. I'm telling you, Brian Thompson of Mortal Kombat Annihilation fame, would portray a great Kratos. 20 - Only two people that I would ever want to do this film.

Zack Snyder, or Rob Rodrigez.

They are the only two people I could see doing this movie, and do it with their awesome style.

Kratos is a brutal, relentless, badass, and it takes a certian kind of director to let those qualities show in the character, not to mention that Brett wanted to make it PG-13 and God of War needs to be R.

I'm sad that the movie will not be made for awhile but i'm glad Ratner dident ruin it.

I don't think there is going to be a good movie based on a video game for a long time. Hollywood just don't get it, they hire directors and actors (Mark Walburg) that have never played any of the games. If they can find film makers who are fans of the games or just gamers the movies would get better.

23 - Thats not entirely fair...

Silent Hill was "Decent", so was the Original Mortal Kombat, and the second Resident Evil, but your probably right in that we won't see any "Great" ones in awhile.

That also depends on who they get to direct the film because Snyder hasent made a bad movie yet (although him doing the movie is a dream right now)

If they get the right person to direct it, it could be fantastic, I think it all comes down to how much the person making the film cares about the material.
