God of War II to support 720p on the PS3

God of War II will not only be playable on the PlayStation 3, of course, but it will run at a true HD resolution of 720p. This is great news. While the original God of War was progressive-scan-enabled on the PS2, being able to play the sequel in 720p is a nice feature. Unfortunately, since the PS3 doesn't support rumble... some of us have a choice to make. Do I want my hands to shake when I rip someone's head off, or do I want to see more detail? It's a hard choice; I loved the rumble effects in the first God of War, but I'll probably go for the graphics.

No doubt this will help the PS3, but anyone that has a PS2 can play it.

It does not make anyone have to go out and buy a PS3. Only if they want to play it in HD.

Either way this is sure to be a great game.

finished the first God of War, i borrowed it from my friend about two months ago. That great is so goooooooood!!! I couldnt believe that i never played it before... I am very much ready to play the new version on my PS3 Baby!!!....

I wonder if te 720p resolution will be only available if you have a ps3?? or will it be available regardless as long as you have the tv set to support 720p???? ANYONE??????

If they want to make some realy money put it out on Xbox 360 because if its already going to released on PS2 then its not going to effect the overall sales of PS2...It a NO BRAINER if the game will be cheaper on a system that you already have (PS2) and be like 49.99 or on a system you dont have (PS3 which is like 650.99) and like 69.99 for the system...you do the math.

You have a good point, but I think it's just to get it out at a HD resolution.

Since it was originally produced for the PS2, I am sure this is probably a last minute thing.

I guess it's a nice added bonus, since it was not supposed to be in there, in the first place.

Or I could be wrong, and it might be too much to run 1080p.

i just finished the first one again last night on spartan mode i didnt even realize the rumble was gone. i gave my ps2 to my nephews. so this is def good news :) now to try and beat it on GOD mode :( im so scared i wont have any hair left after attempting that.

Same - just more difficult, but things to unlock.

Anyone like me find the platforming and puzzle side a little poor - to easy and simplistic...ie. double jump and pushing blocks (compared to prince of persias wall running...and complex interesting puzzles)

i can play it on ps2 and see if the rumble adds anything to the game.and then play it on ps3 and enjoy the extra resolution.i choose both.

great gameplay transcends graphics.i'm still waiting for 360 to get games like this.where are they?it's been over a year...

That's funny cause, just to take my case as an example, I've posted neutral, game related news, and I'm never offensive or off topic in my comments. And guess what ? Already one bubble gone. I'd like to know why lol.

god of war 1 was a GREAT game.
god of war 2 is probably going to be more of the same, maybe few extra moves here and there with a good storyline. remember people this is a ps2 game, NOT a ps3 game. so preach it as a great ps2 title that can be played on the ps3. the only bonus is this supposed upped resolution on the ps3
i'll pick this game up for my ps2, i wonder if i'll be disappointed, as i usually am with most sequels
this site urks me with the ps3/360 bashing... get both, grow up and be done with it!

I played God of War. It's a nearly perfect videogame. 720p with the same 3D models and the same textures isn't really a big deal. (Same as upscaled XBOX Games an 360).
Sony did a really good job with backwards compatibility anyway.

Original posting was updated at bottom of article. I was really looking forward to playing this on my PS3 but now I'm worried that it will look fairly pixelated. The only reason I got the PS2 was because of the original GOW, when I had an SD television. Hopefully it will look okay on an HD monitor via PS3.

sony's systems are known for giving you action games.i bought the xbox because action games showed up.as much as i hate what microsoft did with not making any more games for such a large xbox1 fanbase,i'd buy a 360 to get more action games.but they would rather please shooter fans.nothing wrong with that,but it means no sale for me.

as for god of war2,should be great.i'm trying not to watch any more videos,because i want to be surprised when i play it.2 small vids was enough to get excited for its release.

Go follow the link and what you'll read is:

"Editor's Correction: After posting the review, we've gotten word from an SCEA representative that the game will support 480p on the PlayStation 3 but not 720p. Our error was due to crossed information and we're sorry for the confusion. We will report back once we have the final copy in our hands."

Too bad. The PS3 doesn't have a descent upscaling possiblity in a chip called Ana

And you're so wrong, I just saw this and thought well that sounds nice but the upscaling of the PS3 isn't what it should be. Read into it, some parts of the scaling isn't correct like the hardwarechip Ana does it. So I was surprised. I read through the link and saw on the bottem... Right. No 720p.

A PS2 in the closet with a broken drive won't play it anymore, but maybe I could get one cheap @ about 1/6 of the price of the PS3. That would be worth playing and a pricelevel that's acceptable.

Actually that's the best gaming setup at this moment, a 360 + a PS2 and maybe a Wii. Thanks for pointing out Shadow

Only hope the DVD drive of the PS2 isn't going to give up in a year...

there are different enemy characters that come out on the harder modes, tougher too, and the middle part of the fight with ARES is damn hard, save up your rage of the gods and magic....youll need it.

I was actually thinking that Sony did a great thing by giving PS3 owners a little sugar for their efforts and $$$. GOW is one of the few games on the PS that I would consider getting the system for, and this WOULD have sold a few more PS3's. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.

Maybe they were putting feelers out there to see how much interest this would generate?
