'Call Of Duty' debuts as 360 number one

WW2 shooter Call Of Duty: World At War makes its debut at the top of the 360 chart, knocking Gears Of War 2 down to second.

Activision's Guitar Hero: World Tour climbs six places from nine to complete the top three, following the release of the complete band edition.

The only other new entry into the top ten is free-running FPS title Mirror's Edge, which debuts at nine.

Also, I heard Gears has some online problems.

So lots of people are buying COD5 for Multiplayer, and Gears for Single Player and other modes.

I knew gears 2 wouldn't stay as top seller, but I am surprised that CoD 5 is at #1. I don't like the WWII thing myself WGH, but it is as much fun as CoD 4 was, and has a slightly different feel to it. I was mad that I bought it at first, but once you get into it... it ain't so bad!

@Nipgrip... Gears and Halo are more or less fantasy type shooters. Cod is more realistic, so people generally flock to these types of games. Especially after those same people played CoD 4! Gears and Halo (from the typical persons standpoint) can be viewed as sci-fi nerd food! Just like Metroid or Resistance can be viewed in the same way!

Not saying anything bad about either, just pointing out the fact that alot of gamers may not be as interested in the sci-fi as they are with more realistic shooter games, using real people against real people, and not aliens or monsters!

COD4 was huge and people are turned off by the direction Epic took Gears 2 online. Matchmaking isn't working properly and some don't like the voting options. I know a ton of Gears fiends that want the old way of playing. Pick a mode and cycle the maps. Too many times the same map is voted for over and over again.

I know when I want to play Execution or Warzone I want to plat them! I don't want to have to vote for it and if the vote is a tie it chooses a completely different option. I was a big fan of Gears of War (the original) but I haven't touched the game since COD:WAW launched.

I am holding out hope that Epic fixes what is broken and possibly allows us to play the modes we want without having to vote for it.

I played Gears 2 for 3 days straight and I still haven't seen every map / level yet. Annoying.

These are software charts in the UK, I think people missed that because probably didn't click the link. I'm not surprised for the fact that Gears 2 came out a week before and mostly everyone got it on Week 1.

R2's MP easily beats it IMO. Nothing beats Warhawk fully loaded w/add ons MP gameplay though , Even KZ2 as good as it looks and plays may not surpass warhawks MP funfactor IMO. Read this-> http://www.n4g.com/up/7136/... blog for the low down

Seriously, even though Warhawk doesn't look as good as MGS4 or R2, I just can't get away from it. I've got like 10 PS3 games, I haven't finished neither of them, and I put more than 300 hours on Warhawk. My K/D ratio sucks 0.7 :), but the game is pure addictive fun. I don't want to try any other online shooter, and I haven't so I can't compare or comment. I still remember my first kill ^_^

Here in the UK a major supermarket were selling them (360/PS3) for £27. I haven't been able to get a copy since and I try every day. They just cant keep up with the demand.

Makes sense since it is the sequel to one of the biggest games last year and the fact that most of the people that play CoD4 didnt play any other cod games until then...so they dont know anything about Treyarch etc....Personally I have the game though and its fun.

I doubt that CoD will have the staying power of sales like gears will on the 360 over the next few weeks/months.

13.1 - I think that depends more on Epic

than anything else. A lot of sales come from word of mouth. Right now Gears 2 is not doing well online and the campaign ended poorly. If Epic doesn't get the online fixed they might miss out on some sales. COD4 surprised everyone with how well it sold and people might ultimately end up picking up COD(5)WAW to get their shooting on if G2 isn't fixed in the near future.

I never thought for a second I would be playing COD:WAW over Gears 2 but I am. I haven't touched Gears 2 since I completed the single player campaign. I am waiting for Epic to fix what is broken and if they take too long I might not go back. COD:WAW runs like silk online with no known bugs or issues. Will Gears 2 fans ever be able to say that about their game?

As a huge fan of the original I couldn't be more disappointed with their sequel.

I initially loved the WAW storyline but as the missions continued it just began to wear me down. I am still avoiding the MP until I have the downtime to play the hell out of it but the beta was awesome. As for Gears
there was no way it could hold the top spot after that monster first week. I got my copy and it was well worth the price for the missions - MP not so much.

Wow... This looks promising, and will probably make me go out and rent CoD:WaW to see what all the hype is about.

If it's anywhere near as addictive as CoD4 online, then I can see how this happened. Insane that it beat out GeoW2 so shortly after its release.

Now if only Sony would start releasing stats like this on PSN... ;-)

This is pitiful. Not even the highly touted Gears of War 2 can outsell a multiplatform title. Call of Duty: World at War is also available on PLAYSTATION®3 consoles. As always, PLAYSTATION®3 has the far more superior port of the two titles. Dark Sniper has seen and played both versions and the Xbox 360 version is severely crippled with frame rate hiccups and jaggies.

Call of Duty is a welcome addition to add to the Christmas lineup of PLAYSTATION®3 titles. Where you can find the most exclusives for any console. Along with Call of Duty: World at War, dont forget to pick up the AAA shooter Resistance 2 and the innovative Little Big Planet this holiday season.

An inferior version of Call of Duty has once again topped the Xbox charts beating out Halo 3 last year, and Gears of War 2 this year. It's looks as if Microslaves are content with playing inferior ports of AAA titles.

You can keep the Bottleneck Box 360 away from Dark Sniper. He would rather enjoy some real gaming. PLAYSTATION®3.

Gears1 was only at the top of the chart for a little while then stayed in the top 30 for ages. same thing will happen here and didn't the same thing happen with Halo3 and they both went on to sell millions. Chart will probably be different again next week.
And DARKSNIPER i have played COD5 on both systems and there the same if anything the 360 one is slightly smoother so i have no idea where your coming from on that.

It's sad when garbage finds its way to the top... I didn't like Gears of War 2 much, as I reviewed it as such, but COD World at War is a horrible, on the rails, shooter that brings nothing new to the table... it's a travesty that this game would outsell Resistance 2, Little Big Planet and Gears of War 2. Shows what gamers really want.

Then again this is the UK and those numbers are for both Ps3 and xbox 360 versions of the game. So it should outsell Gears to be on top. Also Resistance, to my knowledge, isn't out there yet.
