'Persona 4' Must Release On December 9 Or Receive The 'Kiss Of Death' From Retail

MTV Multiplayer:"Atlus has a hardcore following that snaps up all of their games. They are not a Square Enix, but Atlus knows that and caters to their fans.

While checking out a demo for 'Persona 4' last week, I noticed it was shipping on December 9, a date before Christmas but after the Thanksgiving sales rush.

I wondered whether a release date matters for a game like 'Persona.' Why not just wait until January or February, when people might have gift cards, etc.?"

I don't agree with that statement by MTV.

If you are referring to the "kiss of death" statement and I assume that you are, then you are incorrect because Atlus is the one who actually made that statement, not MTV Multiplayer.

i think it's ultimately up to the devs, not really sony.
i guess 5 will be on this gen, but damn, yeah, would have been sweet for this to be made for this gen

Atlus make the best choice by releasing this game on the PS2 it's got a bigger userbase worldwide , and it's cheaper to develop for which meakes it easier for them make a profit.

I still play my PS2 occassionally even though I have a PS3 , so bring on Persona 4...besides it's cheaper to buy as a PS2 game.

Danja is correct. 120+ million PS2s >> 20 million PS3.

Still, this game is gonna be awesome. P3:FES was an incredible JRPG.

I don't think it matters.... any RPGamer is going to snap this game up regardless of whether or not it releases in December or Feb-July of 2009. Persona is a flagship series from Atlus and any RPG fan can appreciate these games.......

That is quite interesting. I hadn't thought of that but it is quite true that games released in December tend to be overlooked. UT3 last year just as a example.

Not sure that I agree. It's not like UT3 did any better after the holiday or on its release on the 360. It's just one of those games that has a PC following and that's about it. I don't really ever see that game being AAA on a console. Think about it, Epic made Gears, MS fans love gears, yet they still didn't give UT3 a chance. Why? The game is overhyped and has nothing real to offer to compete with better FPS games.

The regular die hard Persona fans will pick this game up regardless of its release. I know I will. It'll be the most quality RPG this year, even being last gen.

I know it was a game that didn't do good overall (sales wise)but just in recent memory to me besides last year. Games that tend to come out in the last month tend not to be that much of sale boomers. Though you do bring up a good point in the some of the more niche games tend to do better reguardless.

Thank you. Honestly, I'm not even sure Atlus is trying to lure in a new crowd with this one. Reason being, it's got some dating/high school sim elements to it, proper marketing could get a wider audience for this game. My ex loved the last one and she doesn't even play games. She got into the relationship building (yeah, she was a dorky girly-girl). I enjoyed it myself, though I actually bought it for her, lol.

Hahaha i actually don't like RPG's in general but my girlfriend loves em (yeah she's a girl gamer). I know RPG fans are more like the oldschool gamers from back when i was younger. If it's a game they like or have their eye on they're going to buy it reguardless.

7 - Wait a minute
Persona 3 sold out when it was in stores. If retailers dont get put these on their shelves their just losing pretty much guarantee revenue.

MTV having an opinion on niche gaming is like me having an opinion on MTV

People who are going to buy this game are going to buy this game regardless of when it comes out. No question.

Well, I'm pretty confident that I will buy Persona 4 if they release it in Europe.
